Do these sibling names sound ok?

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] everyone,

I’ve got a daughter called [name_f]Holly[/name_f] and am expecting a baby boy. We’re really struggling to choose a name! One of the few names we both like is [name_m]Harry[/name_m], but I think it might sound a bit strange with [name_f]Holly[/name_f]… so would love opinions on whether ‘[name_f]Holly[/name_f] and [name_m]Harry[/name_m]’ sounds ok, or does it sound silly and a bit like we wanted them to match specifically / we’re obsessed with names starting with H and ending in Y?!

Would also welcome other suggestions for boy names. We want something quite traditional and masculine sounding. Nothing which could be unisex, or shortened to something unisex.

Thanks

It sounds okay to me. [name_f]Remember[/name_f] that they will not always be introduced as a sibset. It’s unfair to choose a child’s name that sounds well with the siblings names. I would regret using a name I love less just because it doesn’t sound well

Yayy for your new baby! I personally think that [name_f]Holly[/name_f] and [name_m]Harry[/name_m] sounds cute together and not silly. Also, I agree with nora.rosenberg - for most of his life, he’ll be introduced by himself. Maybe the most frequent time his name will be mentioned after hers will be when people ask you about your kids!

I think it sounds silly. [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_m]Harrison[/name_m] nn [name_u]Sonny[/name_u]?

It’s sounds too silly, like the beginning of a joke if you know what I mean. You could go for [name_m]Harold[/name_m] and call him [name_m]Harry[/name_m] for example. I’ve also looked for some names that are similar in style and fit with [name_f]Holly[/name_f]:

[name_m]Arthur[/name_m]
[name_m]Louis[/name_m]
[name_m]Peter[/name_m]
[name_m]Thomas[/name_m]
[name_m]George[/name_m]
[name_u]Charlie[/name_u]
[name_m]Roderick[/name_m]
[name_m]Miles[/name_m]
[name_m]Edgar[/name_m]
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m]
[name_u]Finn[/name_u]
[name_u]Gus[/name_u]
[name_m]Henry[/name_m]
[name_m]Oscar[/name_m]
[name_m]Frederick[/name_m]
[name_m]Edmund[/name_m]

I can see why you are unsure, I probably wouldn’t put them together unless I couldn’t find anything else I loved as much. On the upside [name_f]Holly[/name_f] & [name_m]Harry[/name_m] sound very sweet together. Perhaps you could save [name_m]Harry[/name_m] for the middle spot if you can’t quite find the confidence.

Other y ending names:
[name_u]Freddy[/name_u]/ [name_u]Freddie[/name_u]
[name_u]Billy[/name_u]
[name_u]Alfie[/name_u]

[name_u]Ollie[/name_u]
[name_u]Oakley[/name_u]
[name_u]Toby[/name_u]
[name_u]Charlie[/name_u]

Similar feel to [name_m]Harry[/name_m]:
[name_m]Chester[/name_m]
[name_u]Theo[/name_u]
[name_m]Leo[/name_m]
[name_m]Oliver[/name_m]

[name_m]Asher[/name_m]/ [name_u]Ash[/name_u]
[name_m]Ethan[/name_m]
[name_u]Elliot[/name_u]

I agree with this. They’re not going to be called together for the whole of their lives. It’s not going to effect them in the grand scheme of things.

It may not cause any confusion or bother them as adults, but it is bound to do so when they are growing up in the same house. Try calling “[name_f]Holly[/name_f], [name_m]Harry[/name_m], dinner time” (or something similar) up you stairs or when you are out shopping, and see how it works for you in real life situations. I can see how the names together would be a bit of a tongue twister because of the amount of repetition between the two.

If your heart is really set on it and you find it easy to pronounce the two names in different situations, go for it! But it would likely be easier in the long term if you manage to find another choice you love just as much.

I think if [name_m]Harry[/name_m] is the name, go for it. [name_m]Don[/name_m]’t let a sibset that isn’t perfect stop you.
If you’re still unsure, You cold also try a name that has a nickname for [name_m]Harry[/name_m], like [name_m]Harrison[/name_m], [name_m]Harris[/name_m], or [name_m]Harold[/name_m].

[name_m]Harry[/name_m] and [name_f]Holly[/name_f] sound lovely. It reminds me of a pair of charming siblings in a children’s book.

It doesn’t sound silly but it is a bit too matchy matchy. If you ended up having other kids, the other children’s names are going to sound really out of place with it unless you can find another name that begins with h ends in y and has a double letter in the middle (or even just a ‘h’ name).

I would say go for [name_m]Harrison[/name_m]/[name_m]Harris[/name_m]/[name_m]Harrington[/name_m] or maybe [name_f]Harlow[/name_f] and nickname him [name_m]Harry[/name_m]. You could even do a slight variation to [name_m]Harvey[/name_m] or [name_m]Hardy[/name_m] just so it doesn’t have the same double letters that [name_f]Holly[/name_f] and [name_m]Harry[/name_m] share.
