I have a 19 month old daughter called [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], nickname [name_f]Gigi[/name_f], and am now almost 12 weeks along with her little brother or sister (finding out gender soon!).
We came up with [name_f]Willa[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] when I was pregnant with [name_f]Georgia[/name_f], and both of us still love it. However, I’m worried that [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] and [name_f]Willa[/name_f] sound like we wanted to have sons (named [name_m]George[/name_m] and [name_m]William[/name_m])?? [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] was named for the song [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] on my Mind, which had a special significance during my pregnancy, and [name_f]Willa[/name_f] would be honoring my maiden name which starts with a W.
[name_u]Eloise[/name_u] [name_f]Anne[/name_f] (possibly nickname [name_f]Lola[/name_f]) was the other name we liked, but I like it more than my husband and unfortunately I feel like I’m hearing it a lot lately…
Recently I started playing with [name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_f]Cate[/name_f], nickname [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] ([name_f]Catherine[/name_f] is a family name), but again, am afraid it sounds like we wanted boys and just feminized male names.
What do you all think of these names with [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]- am I over-thinking the fact that there are male counterparts to these names??
I don’t think it sounds like you guys had wanted sons so much as you’re tapping into the zeitgeist of certain boys’ names sounding cute on girls, and there’s nothing wrong with that! [name_u]Charlie[/name_u], [name_u]Max[/name_u], [name_u]Georgie[/name_u], [name_u]Frankie[/name_u], [name_u]Lou[/name_u], [name_u]Nicky[/name_u], [name_u]Bobbie[/name_u], [name_u]Sam[/name_u], and even [name_u]Theo[/name_u] sound equally charming on girls these days (if not more so, in some cases!)
Have you tried inverting your question and asking yourself - are these names representative of what you’d pick if you did have sons? Did you love [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] for the sake of [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] alone, or would you have considered [name_m]George[/name_m] if it had been a boy instead? For this pregnancy, would you consider [name_m]William[/name_m] as readily as [name_f]Willa[/name_f]? If not, I think there’s your answer! I think your kids would only feel like you had “wanted” the other gender if you outright said to them at some point, “Well, we were hoping you would be a boy so we could use [name_m]William[/name_m], but you were a girl so we just went with [name_f]Willia[/name_f]” - and I’m sure that’s not something you intend to do!
Thank you! To answer your question no- we loved [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] for [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] (and when she came out with cheeks like a little peach we knew that was HER name) and would not have chosen it for a boy. Likewise to [name_m]William[/name_m].
Interestingly my boy names tend to skew slightly the other way- I love [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] and [name_m]Julian[/name_m] (which people have told me has a “feminine” sound eye roll).
No! These names are lovely, I love [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] so much it’s feminine in my opinion and [name_f]Willa[/name_f] is also beautiful!
Maybe pair with ultra feminine middles are I can see why you think this but it doesn’t sound like you wanted sons, you can’t help the names you love! I’m aware your middle name for [name_f]Willa[/name_f] is honouring a family member, but maybe more feminine variation of [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] or some nickname names? Or even use [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] as a middle instead of [name_f]Cate[/name_f]?
Some ultra feminine middles that go with [name_f]Willa[/name_f], that are similar to [name_f]Catherine[/name_f]:
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Margaret[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Victoria[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]
[name_f]Anastasia[/name_f]
[name_f]Isabella[/name_f]
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]
[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps! Congratulations on your new baby!
Thank you very much! I find the names quite feminine too, and loved them on paper until I actually got pregnant and started over-thinking…
Our [name_f]Willa[/name_f] combo would be [name_f]Willa[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f]- I do love [name_f]Willa[/name_f] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] too but we want to stick with some use of [name_f]Catherine[/name_f]. For [name_f]Frances[/name_f], I thought [name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] sounded a little stodgy, and [name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_f]Cate[/name_f] sounded a little fresher…
I don’t think it sounds like you wanted to have boys. [name_f]Willa[/name_f] isn’t the only girl name that starts with “[name_m]Will[/name_m]”… for instance, [name_f]Willow[/name_f], which is considered ultra feminine.
[name_f]Willa[/name_f] and [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] are so cute together! [name_f]Frances[/name_f] and [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] are good too, but I adore [name_f]Willa[/name_f].
I don’t think it sounds that way at all. If you were considering perhaps, [name_m]Harrison[/name_m] and [name_u]Luca[/name_u] for girls, I would say yes, but [name_f]Georgia[/name_f], [name_f]Willa[/name_f] and [name_f]Frances[/name_f] (and nn [name_u]Frankie[/name_u]) all sound very feminine to me, or perfectly acceptable for a little girl, a la [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] nn [name_u]Charlie[/name_u], [name_f]Veronica[/name_f] nn [name_u]Ronnie[/name_u], etc.
I don’t think it sounds like that, it probably wouldn’t have crossed my mind that their both feminizations to be honest. I don’t think it’s a big deal - go with the name that you love the most.
I don’t think they sound masculine or like you wanted sons at all. To me they sound literary. [name_f]Willa[/name_f] and [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] are girl names.
I definitely think you’re over thinking it and that no one would ever meet your daughters [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] and [name_f]Willa[/name_f] and think “[name_m]Man[/name_m], they must REALLY have wanted boys!” [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] is a feminine version of [name_m]George[/name_m] but it’s still a feminine name. [name_f]Willa[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] is beautiful (but so is [name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_f]Cate[/name_f])!
[name_f]Georgia[/name_f] and [name_f]Willa[/name_f] are an absolutely beautiful sibling set!! I never ever would have thought “they must’ve wanted boys”.
They go well together and will many names fit that category. If anyone is ever so rude to ask you can explain their significance but I seriously wouldn’t worry about it.
This never would have occurred to me at all. I think [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] and [name_f]Willa[/name_f] are names in their own right and sound great together.
