I was wondering if anyone else puts inside jokes into the story you write? I do all the time. Y’all don’t have to explain the inside jokes, you can just write it (Example 1), or you can just reply Yes or No and why (Example 2) that answer. Or both.
Example 1:
[name_f]Lida[/name_f]
Example 2:
Yes, because it makes me feel like I’m connecting with my friends that might someday read the story.
I do, sometimes. There’s one story in particular where I like to subtly tease my friends who I know will read it. Most readers wouldn’t see anything unusual in it, but those who the message is intended for certainly will!
I’ve threatened putting a minor character into a story who speaks exclusively in [name_m]Vine[/name_m] references. My best friend would recognize them immediately, and if I did end up doing it, I would hope others would catch on too haha.
Not quite inside jokes, but my local NaNoWriMo group has a thing where things that come up during the month are turned into challenges, like
- I saw someone with a weird name on TV, I challenge you to use it on a character
- I challenge you to kill someone by breaking furniture, bonus points if it’s [name_f]IKEA[/name_f]
- I challenge you to make a pun/antijoke into a plot point
I can only think of one time I did - character A said “damnit” and character B replied “crazy eights.” (Like the card game.)
