My name is Hazel, and my family and friends call me Haze, Hazey, Hughie, Basil, Mouse, Muffin, Lacey… all the things! I love nicknames!
With my old name I use to go by Em/M, and M&M. With my new name, [name_u]Vesper[/name_u], I’ll probably just be called [name_u]Vesper[/name_u], maybe [name_u]Perry[/name_u], [name_m]Nemo[/name_m] and Phantom
The only nickname I have is the pet name that my parents call me when they want to make fun of me. And the name my teacher thought was cute and tried to call me but it just felt uncomfortable
[name_f]My[/name_f] name is difficult so from my day care aunties when I was little up to my coworkers have found some nickname to call me. Same thing with family.
It’s a spelling variant of [name_f]Jamila[/name_f]!
Also I forgot, but somehow a friend came up with ‘Jam [name_m]Jam[/name_m] who likes to bam bam’ for a while. Completely ironically, and I can’t remember how or why, but she used it a bit in our final year of school.
irl I have a few nicknames but on here I have -so many- it’s insane
claudie, claude, & russ mainly !! but also any number of diminutives (russy, rusty, claudius, claudio, rossy, clossie/clossy, russo, etc) and double barrels (in the vein of claudie russ)
I’m generally called [name_u]Lexi[/name_u] by everybody, but a lot of teachers call me [name_u]Lex[/name_u], and my sister calls me Allie-Kat for a pet name (She gets it from [name_u]Alexis[/name_u] Katrina)
In my culture, it’s a custom to choose a ‘proper’ name for your child (their legal one, which will go on their birth certificate) and an informal one; their nickname (which they will be called by family members). Their nickname doesn’t have to sound anything like their real name. I got my nickname because my parents chose my legal name first, but one of my mom’s friends told her my name should have started with the letter S because, according to some sort of tradition, daughters’ names should start with the same letter as the father’s and sons’ names should start with the same letter as the mother’s. [name_f]My[/name_f] father’s name starts with S, but since my parents had already applied for a passport for me and could not change my name, they decided to adopt an S-starting nickname for me to fulfil these terms (which is how I ended up with a nickname that sounds nothing like my real name).
Me realizing that it can apply to pet nicknames too
[name_f]My[/name_f] mom calls me coconut or coco-bean, and when I was in school my nn was [name_u]Maz[/name_u], but I don’t go by that anymore
I have the typical Spanish -ita nickname that I only get called by family and then the name I go by on here, which one of my friends calls me occasionally, too.
I have 4 - [name_f]Em[/name_f], [name_f]Emmy[/name_f], [name_f]Milly[/name_f] & [name_f]Rachel[/name_f] (Rachel is my middle name but I and I have family that call me [name_f]Rachel[/name_f] because they don’t like [name_f]Emily[/name_f] )
[name_f]Em[/name_f] is really just used by DH and my mum and siblings.
[name_f]Emmy[/name_f] and [name_f]Milly[/name_f] are used by my friends and students. [name_f]Milly[/name_f] is used specifically by my dad as well.
[name_f]Rachel[/name_f] is only specific family members that have something against [name_f]Emily[/name_f] so went with [name_f]Rachel[/name_f] instead.
I used to have another one in school as well but it is a long story to do with my maiden name (below if you are interested)
[name_f]My[/name_f] maiden name is Brockmann and it always used to get misspelt as Brookman so kids started calling me [name_u]Brooks[/name_u] and it stuck (sometimes Brooksy as well to the ending resembled some similarity to Emily)
I have 4 - [name_u]Jem[/name_u] (family, close friends), [name_u]Jem[/name_u] [name_u]Jem[/name_u] (certain friends, I hate this one) Jemster (friend who I’ve known forever’s mum) and [name_f]Evie[/name_f] (online/berries)
I have 3 - [name_u]Karo[/name_u] is a nickname basically all my friends (including the Berries!) call me, and my old PhD supervisor calls me just K. [name_f]My[/name_f] wife also calls me Chickpea every now and then.
What is your nickname?
me trying to figure out what in the world this could possibly be short for because my adhd and ocd are making me
Coconut and coco bean are just fun little nicknames, I also really like coconuts so could be from that too. [name_u]Maz[/name_u] kinda comes from my name but it’s also from the fact that when [name_f]Star[/name_f] War: The Force Awakens came out my friends said I reminded them of [name_u]Maz[/name_u] Kanata
me likee wars in da starz
I IS WEIRD
eh-hem
Excuse me.
yes, unfortunately it’s usually pretty easy to figure out my family still calls me it so I don’t technically mind it, but it still feels weird to be called it instead of ash. Definitely makes me cringe or wince lol. I just feel like ash is more me!
also, I just remembered that I get called my last name pretty often, but I will stick with just one! I also have a few non-name related pet names that friends use, but I dont consider them nicknames as they’re not related to my name in any way!
I’m usually [name_f]Suse[/name_f] (and surprisingly often my full name considering it’s three syllables and easily nicknameable) but sometimes with my partner I’m just Sus
