I’ve been thinking about the name is [name_m]Orson[/name_m]. I love everything about this name, except the sound of it.
I am imagining introducing an “[name_m]Orson[/name_m]” to people - while it’s obvious on paper what the name is, the sound is confusing: it sounds like ‘awesome’ or ‘[name_m]Dawson[/name_m]’ etc etc. And it’s just not a great sound, is it? What do you think of the SOUND of the name?
I know someone with the last name [name_m]Orson[/name_m]. I think of [name_m]Orson[/name_m] Welles, too. I don’t think it sounds confusing, but you must pronounce it weird if you think it sounds like “awesome” or “[name_m]Dawson[/name_m]”. LOL! [name_m]Just[/name_m] teasing. Where are you from? In my accent, those would never be confused.
I like [name_m]Orson[/name_m]! It sounds like a teddy bear name to me (similar to the french word ourson which means bear cub, I guess). I also think of [name_m]Orson[/name_m] Welles. I don’t think it sounds confusing. I really love the name!
Whoa, it hadn’t occurred to me that it might be pronounced in different ways! I’m in Australia, I pronounce it ‘OR-sun’, the “OR” sounds like the vowel sound in or / saw / paw / sore / tore / more etc. Of course, you may pronounce those differently, but for me, the vowel sound is the same in all of them. So for me, ‘[name_m]Orson[/name_m]’ sounds just like ‘[name_m]Dawson[/name_m]’ but with no D.

I agree! [name_f]Do[/name_f] you know how [name_m]Ourson[/name_m] is pronounced in [name_m]French[/name_m]? That is in fact the [name_m]French[/name_m] version of the name… which my husband and I joked would make for a good comedy sketch - ‘this is [name_m]Ourson[/name_m]’ ‘Oh, what’s his name?’ “He’s [name_m]Ourson[/name_m]” “Yes, but what’s his name?” etc Yeah, it would get old pretty quickly : )
I live in the US. I would pronounce the R sound in all of those words. You should probably try the name out on other Australians and see whether or not they understand you.
Ha! Yeah. I’m in the US. Or, sore, tore, and more rhyme. Saw and paw rhyme. But or and saw most definitely do not rhyme when I say them! You’ll probably want to direct this question to other Australians. Maybe test out the name and see whether or not people understand you.
It makes me think of [name_f]Bree[/name_f]'s creepy husband on Desperate Housewives, but since that show is no longer on the air, I doubt any of his friends will ever hear about it.
I’m Australian and I know what you mean about it rhyming with awesome and [name_m]Dawson[/name_m] since we don’t say our r’s like Americans. I did know an [name_m]Orson[/name_m], a little boy at the daycare centre I used to work at. He was such a lovely little soul and the name suited him very well. I must admit, when I first heard his name I was like… [name_m]Orson[/name_m]… as in awesome? Haha! But if nicknames come about I hardly think you can tease awesome [name_m]Orson[/name_m]! What a good word to have rhyming with your name
Yeah, I know, right? Still… all my other possible boy names are kind of sing-songy in their sound, but my husband is like, ‘this is the ONE!’ Awesome [name_m]Orson[/name_m]… yeah, I could get used to it, but it would take some getting used to. It’s not a love-at-first-sound name.
I know an [name_m]Orson[/name_m] and I’m Australian. It rhymes with [name_m]Dawson[/name_m] for me. I don’t know him too well but he’s a bit younger then me so he’s about 8.
