Do you like Caroline? Is it "meh"?

Hubby and I are leaning towards Caroline for our third child, first daughter.

Whenever people ask and I tell them, basically everyone has a lukewarm reaction. Pretty much no one has even said, “oh I like that.” Most people just don’t say a lot. It’s not that I am looking for approval, but it has me wondering if people just kind of have a negative association, or it sounds too dated, too “blah”…? Does it sound like an old lady? If anything, my guess is it falls under the category of “nothing special”? But who wants to feel like that is the first impression of your child? So it has me rethinking. What do you all think is going on?

Our last name begins with a “c” and is two syllables, English origin, but has a lot of consonants, so it almost sounds harsh and German…so I liked how Caroline feminizes the full name, if that makes sense.

I could pick something really cutesy and trendy like Riley or Peyton, but I like names that sound a little more formal. However, is the name so formal that it rubs people the wrong way?!

I honestly think Caroline is a cute name for a little girl. I was also thinking of having her go by Cara.

I also like Chloe. A little more popular right now but also very classic. I tend to lean towards very traditional, and I am not sure if I should mix it up.

I also like Brynn. Hubby really prefers more formal and feminine, though. And I agree with him that names like Brynn sound harsher with our last name and it kind of clashes, doesn’t roll off the tongue.

When I hear [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], I think it is an okay name. It is classic and pretty, but just okay in my opinion.

There is nothing wrong with the name and I don’t have any negative connotations when I hear it. If you love it, I say go for it. She could always go by [name_f]Cara[/name_f] for short.

I do prefer [name_f]Cara[/name_f] and [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] to [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]. [name_f]Brynn[/name_f] is cute too, but I can see what you’ve talking about, it doesn’t have the femininity that the other names do.

[name_f]Caroline[/name_f] is a nice classic name and I don’t have any negative associations with it, but it is just one of those names where I’m pretty neutral about it in general. But I think that’s okay. It’s much better than people hearing your name choice and saying rude things about it.

And I do like [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] more than [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] and [name_f]Brynn[/name_f].

I actually really like [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]! It’s not so common these days and I think works well for a little girl and a grown woman.

[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]. It’s on my list too, both as an honor name and just because I like it. I also like [name_f]Carolina[/name_f], for a little something different.

But [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] is somehow both cute and refined, and has a host of nice nicknames, like [name_f]Cara[/name_f].

For the record, I think [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] also seems to fit what you’re going for—traditional, feminine and not too harsh. [name_f]Brynn[/name_f] is lovely, but a little more abrupt. [name_f]Brynna[/name_f] would draw it out a bit.

[name_f]Caroline[/name_f] is a classic beauty. I always like it but at some point got tun off by the popularity -now it’s back on my list after I found the combo I love so much. [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] nn [name_f]Cara[/name_f] is lovely.

I like [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] but if your apprehensive what about just [name_f]Cara[/name_f]?

I love [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]…my favorite nn is [name_f]Carly[/name_f] though. [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] is okay…I actually find it more boring than [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] (I also know several [name_f]Chloe[/name_f]'s…including several family pets). I’m not really a fan of [name_f]Brynn[/name_f].

I love [name_f]Cara[/name_f] but my reaction to [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] would just be “Oh, another [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]”
Maybe [name_f]Coraline[/name_f], [name_f]Chiara[/name_f], [name_f]Carla[/name_f], [name_f]Clarisse[/name_f] or [name_f]Clara[/name_f]?

I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]! It’s the quintessential elegant name. It’s really a perfect choice. I see people talking about popularity. I’ve only ever met two or three. I’ve met far more [name_f]Cara[/name_f]'s and oodles of [name_f]Chloe[/name_f]'s.

I think new or unusual names get those bold reactions. I remember people going bonkers over [name_u]Madison[/name_u]. But, you can see how popular that became. My daughter’s name, [name_f]Clara[/name_f], also got those lukewarm reactions. We get many more compliments now.

[name_f]Caroline[/name_f] is a wonderful, classic choice that will always be beautiful, feminine, and elegant.

There is nothing “wrong” with [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]… I think it just fits in to the category of ‘a simple classic’. To me it is a little dated, but I am one for more out-there names, so it’s rather subjective. I much prefer [name_f]Cara[/name_f] to [name_f]Caroline[/name_f].

I love [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]. I have only met one and barely hear it talked about on the forum, that surprises me. [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] is a versatile name that can fit many personality types.

We cannot make everyone happy choosing names, nor do we need to try. What matters is if the parents-to-be adore the name.

I think [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] is absolutely gorgeous…sophisticated, classy, and timeless.

It was on my list for when I was choosing a name for my daughter, and will be a strong contender next time too.

I don’t think it could ever sound dated, and it’s certainly not “meh”, in my opinion.

A friend of a friend just named her daughter [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], (nicknamed [name_m]Aro[/name_m]) and has had nothing but warm, positive, enthusiastic reactions.

Choose the name you love!

I love, love, love [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]! It’s classic but not too common, has a beautiful sound. I think [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] is elegant, but the nickname [name_u]Caro[/name_u] is sassy and fun, giving you options.

[name_f]Caroline[/name_f] is classicly elegant and delightfully non-ubiquitious; [name_f]Carolyn[/name_f] is the blah, dated name (at least in the Northeast US)

[name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] is another similar name that has more of a pretty, feminine feel.

I love the name [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]. I think it is elegant, feminine but not overly ‘frilly,’ and will wear well from babyhood to adulthood. I have a couple of friends who’ve used it for their daughters in the past few years, but it still doesn’t seem too popular overall. I’d considered using it myself someday, but since a really close friend beat me to it, I probably won’t. I prefer it to [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] or [name_f]Brynn[/name_f], though those are both very pretty as well.
