I can’t get this name out of my head. We are not Catholic, and I’ve heard it’s a largely Catholic name.
[name]Do[/name] you like the name [name]Bernadette[/name]? [name]Do[/name] you know anyone with the name [name]Bernadette[/name], and do they hate it or love it? There are so many options with nicknames too, which is exciting!
Any other names that “feel” similar to [name]Bernadette[/name]? Other -ette names just don’t seem to have the same spunky attitude I feel with this name, same with other B names.
I love it! I agree that other-ette names just don’t have the same appeal.
As for nns I love [name]Bette[/name] or [name]Betty[/name]. [name]Birdie[/name] is cute but too cute for me. [name]Etta[/name] is sweet but not intuitive enough for me. [name]Bernie[/name] is too old man for me. [name]Bern[/name] is awesome though. [name]Bear[/name] is cute.
I was raised Catholic so maybe my love of [name]Bernadette[/name] is partially from that, but I have only met older Bernadettes.
I love it cause it feels tough but girly.
I love [name]Bernadette[/name]. As a kid I knew a [name]Bernadette[/name] my age, so it doesn’t seem too old-lady to me, and her family called her [name]Bern[/name]. Also a great song reference!
I really like [name]Bernadette[/name]. I think it’s because I love the Big Bang [name]Theory[/name] though. Shows/books really influence me on names. I have never met anyone named [name]Bernadette[/name] in real life. My favorite nn for [name]Bernadette[/name] is [name]Birdie[/name] fallowed by [name]Bea[/name]. [name]Maureen[/name] gives me a similar vibe as [name]Bernadette[/name].
So weird to see this post. I literally [name]JUST[/name] texted my sister the name [name]Bernadette[/name] last night to see what she thought of it! She sent back, “Haha, no.” But I think the right girl could REALLY pull it off, and I love the nicknames [name]Benny[/name] and [name]Berry[/name]!
I’m bias with this name because my best friend is named [name]Bernadette[/name] (nn [name]Bernie[/name]), she’s 22. Until I met her, I really didn’t like the name, and if this wasn’t my best friend’s name, I still really wouldn’t like the name. I still don’t like it, but not as much as before. It sounds too old ladyish. She doesn’t hate her name, but she doesn’t love it either. She even complains sometimes that the only people she ever meets named [name]Bernadette[/name] are no younger than 70.
I have a friend named [name]Bernadette[/name] who just turned 22 as well. She goes by [name]Bernie[/name]. I think she likes it. However, I am not really a fan of it.
My name is [name]Bernadette[/name] and my family call me bern, my friends call me berna. I like it. There are not many of us about. And I’m 30. Not sure if that’s old lady or not
I tried to like it once (we are Catholic), but I just couldn’t. I do like [name]Henriette[/name], which is similar. I just don’t think [name]Bernadette[/name] has any good nicknames, and I don’t find the “burn” syllable feminine or pretty.
[name]Bernadette[/name] is the name of my godmother. My mother was supposed to give me the her name as my middle name. I can only say I’m SO glad she didn’t
[name]Bernadette[/name] sounds like “[name]Burn[/name]-a-debt”.
I love the name [name]Bernadette[/name]! I have a cousin [name]Bernadette[/name] who is spunky, beautiful and makes everyone laugh! She was named after our great grandfather, [name]Bernard[/name]. I think of her when I hear the name so I love it. Her nn was [name]Bernie[/name] which I also think is very cute. There is also a character on the Big Bang Therory named [name]Bernadette[/name]. She is also very cute and spunky and very smart. I’d definately consider using the name for my daughter.
[name]Bernadette[/name] is a great name. I think it is pretty and spunky all at the same time. The nickname possibilites are great too!
I have met [name]Bernadette[/name]'s that are Catholic and [name]Bernadette[/name]'s that are not Catholic.
I have a coworker named [name]Bernadette[/name]. We call her [name]Bern[/name], [name]Bernie[/name], and B for short – I don’t know if I’ve ever called her by her full name. Today is her 47th birthday and I think she likes her name.
I know a 20 year old named [name]Bernadetta[/name]. I think her name is bigger than she is, but it’s cute on her and she goes by the full thing.
Is the [name]Bernadette[/name] Catholic saint highly regarded and well known? I am at least glad she wasn’t one of the saints who died a horrible violent death!
St. [name]Bernadette[/name] (aka [name]Saint[/name] [name]Marie[/name]-Bernarde Soubirous) is one of my favourite saints. [name]Bernadette[/name] was a sickly child. She had cholera in infancy and suffered most of her life from asthma and she died at only 35. During her life, she had many visitations from a lady who called herself “the Immaculate Conception” and asked that a church be built near at a cave-grotto. These [name]Marian[/name] visions are known as “Our Lady of [name]Lourdes[/name]” and now it’s a holy pilgrimage site in [name]France[/name]. Eventually, people believed her and on her death, the road to sainthood began. Since her death, her body has apparently remained internally incorrupt, but it is not without blemish; during her third exhumation in 1925, light wax coverings were made for her face and her hands due to the discoloration that her skin has undergone. These masks were placed on her face and hands before she was moved to her crystal reliquary in [name]June[/name] 1925. A fascinating story!
I knew a spunky and tomboyish [name]Bernadette[/name] at the Catholic girls high school I attended. I’ve always like the name.
My husband really likes it and pushed for it as a way to honor my recently deceased grandfather, [name]Bernie[/name]. But I just couldn’t get on board. I’m not sure if that’s because of the -ette ending, which still feels more like a trend from my parents’ generation then my children’s, or maybe it’s because it has a bit of a tough cookie sound, like [name]Bertha[/name], to me. When I explained it was a Catholic name (we’re Jewish), he took it off the table.
That said, I think [name]Bernadette[/name] on the Big Bang [name]Theory[/name] is adorable and I just love her name! You know how the list of names you love to hear around the block is different from the list of names that you’d actually use for your own children? That’s how I feel about [name]Bernadette[/name]. I’d love to meet one and befriend one, but I wouldn’t use the name myself.
I didn’t know it was a catholic name. I find it more vintage and delicate. I get a doily image- that’s not a bad thing! I had a seventh grade teacher name [name]Bernadette[/name], I don’t know how she felt about the name. But I do love the nickname [name]Bernie[/name]! And the meaning- brave as a bear- is awesome. What about [name]Henrietta[/name], [name]Francesca[/name], [name]Theodora[/name], [name]Louisa[/name], or [name]Philippa[/name]? I think most feminizations have the same appeal.
