I like [name_u]Angie[/name_u], but not [name_f]Angela[/name_f].
I like [name_u]Josie[/name_u], but not [name_f]Josephine[/name_f].
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you ever find yourself in the same position?
I like [name_u]Angie[/name_u], but not [name_f]Angela[/name_f].
I like [name_u]Josie[/name_u], but not [name_f]Josephine[/name_f].
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you ever find yourself in the same position?
I like [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] but not so much [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], but if me and my current bf have any children it would be a good tradition to continue as his mum goes by [name_f]Bessie[/name_f] and his sister is named [name_f]Eliza[/name_f].
I also really like the name [name_f]Dora[/name_f] which is considered a nn but I don’t like Callidora etc
I like [name_f]Posy[/name_f] but not so much [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], and [name_f]Clio[/name_f]/[name_f]Cleo[/name_f] but not [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] or [name_f]Cleopatra[/name_f]
Oh yes! There are so many nicknames that I love, but not their full names.
[name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_u]Josie[/name_u], but not [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
[name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_u]Allie[/name_u], but not [name_u]Allison[/name_u]
[name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], but not [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_f]Hattie[/name_f], but not [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f]
[name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_m]Nathan[/name_m], but not [name_m]Nathanial[/name_m]
[name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_m]Donnie[/name_m], but not [name_m]Donald[/name_m]
[name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_m]Jeff[/name_m], but not [name_m]Jeffery[/name_m]
I’m the opposite! I actually prefer many full names over their nicknames ([name_f]Josephine[/name_f] is gorgeous in my opinion, but I can’t stand [name_u]Josie[/name_u] as a nickname!!).
ooh, I love Wilf for a boy but I’m not a fan of [name_m]Wilfred[/name_m]. I also love [name_f]Gia[/name_f] for a girl but I can’t think of a full name for it that I like.
Oooh I have a few!
I love [name_u]Josie[/name_u] but not [name_f]Josephine[/name_f].
I love [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] but not [name_u]Paddy[/name_u].
I love [name_u]Penny[/name_u] but not [name_f]Penelope[/name_f].
I love [name_u]Bobby[/name_u] but not [name_m]Robert[/name_m].
I’m an a [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and only [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] to my parents and grandma! Everyone else calls me [name_f]Lizzie[/name_f] - which my parents hate!
I love [name_f]Annie[/name_f], but not [name_f]Anne[/name_f]/[name_f]Anna[/name_f].
I like [name_m]Will[/name_m], but not [name_m]William[/name_m].
I prefer…
[name_u]Charlie[/name_u] to [name_m]Charles[/name_m]
[name_m]Will[/name_m] to [name_m]William[/name_m]
[name_m]Archie[/name_m] to [name_m]Archibald[/name_m]
[name_m]Jack[/name_m] to [name_m]John[/name_m] or [name_m]Jackson[/name_m]
[name_m]Jake[/name_m] to [name_m]Jacob[/name_m]
[name_u]Kit[/name_u] to [name_m]Christopher[/name_m]
[name_m]Ned[/name_m] to [name_m]Edward[/name_m]
[name_u]Robbie[/name_u] to [name_m]Robert[/name_m]
[name_m]Rico[/name_m] to [name_m]Richard[/name_m]
[name_m]Cy[/name_m] to [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m]
[name_u]Jessie[/name_u] to [name_f]Jessica[/name_f]
[name_f]Lily[/name_f] to [name_f]Lillian[/name_f]
[name_f]Liv[/name_f]/[name_f]Livia[/name_f] to [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]
[name_f]Polly[/name_f] to [name_f]Paula[/name_f]
[name_f]Sadie[/name_f] to [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]
[name_f]Tess[/name_f] to [name_f]Teresa[/name_f]
[name_f]Vita[/name_f] to [name_f]Victoria[/name_f]
[name_f]Trudy[/name_f] to [name_f]Gertrude[/name_f]
[name_f]Nell[/name_f] to [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]
I am a [name_u]Josie[/name_u] but not a [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] so it could work for you
I love [name_f]Lettie[/name_f] and [name_f]Lotte[/name_f] and I do like [name_f]Laetitia[/name_f] but not enough. I don’t like [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] or [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f].
@mavebird - you could use [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] to get to [name_f]Dora[/name_f]. I love [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] nn [name_f]Dora[/name_f], but everyone I’ve asked says it’s too closely associated with [name_f]Dora[/name_f] the [name_u]Explorer[/name_u]
I like [name_u]Toby[/name_u] but not [name_m]Tobias[/name_m].
[name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_m]Archie[/name_m], don’t like [name_m]Archer[/name_m].
Prefer [name_m]Cliff[/name_m] to [name_m]Clifford[/name_m].
If I wanted to name a dog or son [name_u]Toby[/name_u], I would do it outright.
I don’t understand the hesitation over naming a child [name_u]Toby[/name_u] instead of [name_m]Tobias[/name_m]. If I found myself wanting to “get” to a certain “nickname”, then I would just name the child the name I wanted to get to!
I love love love the name [name_f]Polly[/name_f] and would name a daughter that too.
The analogy I think of is wanting to paint my house sky blue, but feeling I should choose a more serious color, so buying a dark blue in the hopes that it would fade to sky blue.
@psg007 -I always forget about [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] as a full name for [name_f]Dora[/name_f], my best friend calls me [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] all the time as my old lady name (running joke that has caught on in our family/friend group) as I am dotty apparently. I call her [name_f]Mildred[/name_f] ([name_f]Milly[/name_f]) we use the names so much that we almost think of them as each others first names.
I have always loved [name_f]Ally[/name_f]/[name_u]Allie[/name_u], but have never found a full name that I like as much
I actually usually prefer the full name to the nickname. I much prefer [name_f]Angela[/name_f] and [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] to their nicknames. I’ve always thought that if you were going to name your baby something why do that then just choose to call them something else? Why not just name them a “nickname” if you were going to call them that all along anyway?
Well anyway, the few nicknames I like more than their full name counterparts are [name_m]Jeff[/name_m], [name_m]Nathan[/name_m], and [name_f]Cleo[/name_f].
I usually prefer the full names to nicknames. I have names that I like but wouldn’t consider because I don’t want people using the nicknames. Examples are:
[name_m]Leonidas[/name_m] but don’t like [name_m]Leo[/name_m]
[name_f]Desdemona[/name_f] but don’t like [name_u]Desi[/name_u] or [name_f]Mona[/name_f]
Casseopia but don’t like [name_f]Cassie[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] but don’t like [name_f]Rose[/name_f]/[name_f]Rosie[/name_f] etc.
I love [name_f]Milly[/name_f]/[name_f]Millie[/name_f] but hate all the full names, same with [name_f]Tilly[/name_f]. I love [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] but not any of the full names.
Oh yes!
I’m in love with [name_f]Aggie[/name_f] but I don’t like [name_f]Agatha[/name_f]. I like [name_f]Agnes[/name_f] but I would never be able to use it (bad namesake with my family).
I also love the nickname possibilities that come along with [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] - [name_f]Libby[/name_f], [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_f]Liesl[/name_f] especially, but the popularity of [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is a huge turn-off. But, then again, I guess if she went by her nickname then it wouldn’t matter so much.
But then, I have the opposite problem as well with other names.
I have to agree with Katieree331. I adore Cassiopea but don’t really like [name_f]Cassie[/name_f]. Besides, my cousin is named [name_f]Cassie[/name_f] so I couldn’t use the name anyways. Ugh.
I love [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] but there aren’t any good nickname options that come with it, and I definitely don’t want people calling him [name_f]Atti[/name_f].
My husband and I are having this problem naming baby boy #4.
I love love love [name_u]Kit[/name_u], but I only like [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] (mostly because I would like a C name) and my husband doesn’t like [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] much at all. It goes the other way too because neither of us like [name_u]Chris[/name_u].
With an 8-year-old who has already outgrown his nicknames (he is [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]–not [name_u]Teddy[/name_u], not [name_m]Ted[/name_m], not [name_u]Theo[/name_u]–[name_m]Theodore[/name_m]) I want to make sure baby has options to make his name his own as he goes through life. Unfortunately nick-name names just don’t offer many opportunities to do that.
I love [name_f]Maisie[/name_f], but [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] doesn’t do it for me at all. I also like [name_f]Essie[/name_f] but not [name_f]Esther[/name_f], and while I’m mildly fond of [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], I positively adore nns [name_u]Fee[/name_u] and [name_f]Flick[/name_f].
