Do you prefer names with Latin or Greek origins?

I hadn’t really thought about the origins of names until I was looking through my database and filtered my results to Latin origins and then Greek. I think I like both equally but I wonder about other people’s opinions. I’ll give some examples for you to refer to.

[name_f]Sylvia[/name_f]
[name_f]Zinnia[/name_f]

I think it balances out on my list too, since I absolutely love both Latin and Greek names. But I think on average there are more Greek names, especially on my super long master list. Although it depends where they are on my list too; there are definitely some Latin names ([name_f]Lyra[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], [name_m]Horatio[/name_m] and more) that are a lot higher than some of my other Greek origin names. Oddly enough though one of my best friends almost exclusively likes Latin names (for characters etc.) :p.

It’s about even for me, but a little more preference for the Greek names. However, since Greek uses the K, I’m afraid that they would be seen as Kardashian-y more than the latinized ones.

I couldn’t possibly choose one over the other! I might have a tiny bias for Greek names though, since my own ([name]Alexa[/name]) has Greek origins.

I definitely prefer Greek names. I think it’s because I think they’ve been less used than latin names, and therefore the mythology and the unique aura the names have haven’t been lost. Take the names [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] and [name_f]Diana[/name_f] for example. Both are different names for the same goddess, but [name_f]Diana[/name_f] would be just seen as an old classic, perhaps named after a family member, whereas the name [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] would create more curiosity.

I like Greek and Latin names. They create some magic when you pronounce them. Among Greek ones, most of all I prefer [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f], [name_f]Eudora[/name_f], [name_f]Philippa[/name_f], and among Latin - [name_f]Clementine[/name_f], [name_f]Minerva[/name_f], [name_f]Zinnia[/name_f].

Well, I definitely prefer names with Latin origin even though my own name is completely of Greek origin. However I think that Latin names are more distinctive as far as the gender is concerned and the feminine names are so lovely…

As a Greek, I definitely lean towards Greek names. My own name ([name_f]Eleni[/name_f]) is Greek and I feel it is important for me to pass my heritage on. I do still love Latin names, but my girls list especially has more Greek than Latin names.
