Thank you for the votes so far. Not much love for [name_m]Tadhg[/name_m].
I have no idea how to pronounce Tadgh. If I met a Tadgh, I would probably pronounce it [name_m]Ted[/name_m]-g. I looked up the right pronunciation but think that it would be really hard to get for people (even after explaining the right pronunciation / spelling once or twice) unless you life in [name_f]Ireland[/name_f].
I prefer [name_m]Tobin[/name_m], but [name_m]Tadhg[/name_m] also sounds interesting to me.
I chose [name_m]Tobin[/name_m] over [name_m]Tadhg[/name_m] because [name_m]Tobin[/name_m]'s easier to pronounce. It’s hard for me to look at the word “[name_m]Tadhg[/name_m]” and pronounce it “[name_m]Tyg[/name_m].”
Oh, [name_m]Tadhg[/name_m] is a guilty pleasure from my childhood! I gave it up when I saw that nobody could pronounce it (it’s like tiger without the -er). Maybe spell it [name_m]Tyg[/name_m] or Taig?
Not a fan of [name_m]Tobin[/name_m]
I’m in the minority according to the poll but I prefer the strength and power of [name_m]Tadhg[/name_m]. It’s masculine but it doesn’t hit you over the head with machismo. [name_m]Tobin[/name_m] is ok but I find it a little too boyish.
I prefer [name_m]Tobin[/name_m] to [name_m]Tadhg[/name_m].
[name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_m]Tadhg[/name_m]! I’ve loved it for years. I was thrilled to meet one a couple years ago at an ice-carving competition. I met his brother, [name_m]Cillian[/name_m], too. Yes, they were from [name_f]Ireland[/name_f].
I like [name_m]Tobin[/name_m], too, but I’m voting for [name_m]Tadhg[/name_m]. I think that for me, though, it will have to stay on the “guilty-pleasure” list, as I think friends and family would constantly struggle to spell and pronounce it correctly.
[name_m]Tobin[/name_m]. [name_m]Tadhg[/name_m] looks like somebody leaned on the keyboard.
[name_m]Tadhg[/name_m] does admittedly have a nutso spelling but it sounds cool.
But then again so does [name_f]Siobhan[/name_f].
Thank you for the votes and for sharing your opinions.
[name_m]Tobin[/name_m]. I have always never known how to say [name_m]Tadhg[/name_m] (I always spell it wrong, too!)–I’ve tried “tave” “tag” and “tayge”, which are all wrong, apparently! I like [name_m]Tobin[/name_m] much more than “tig” anyway. I adore [name_u]Toby[/name_u], and [name_m]Tobin[/name_m]'s just so smart and down-to-earth–I love him.
I definitely prefer [name_m]Tadhg[/name_m], but it would be difficult to make that work in the States. And I wouldn’t want to change it to a more obvious (and incorrect) spelling, so I’d probably be annoyed all the time by misspellings. Mispronunciations I could definitely deal with because it’s very different, so I’d expect that, but the misspellings would bug me for some reason, I think. I still voted for it, though, because I find it way above and beyond [name_m]Tobin[/name_m], which to me sounds like a last name.
I picked [name_m]Tobin[/name_m]! I love Tadgh’s meaning of “poet,” but [name_m]Tobin[/name_m] is a no-brainer when it comes to pronunciation. Tadgh isn’t. Shame. Plus, [name_m]Tobin[/name_m] has the added benefit of the nickname [name_u]Toby[/name_u], which I love. Although, truth be told, I prefer the original [name_m]Tobias[/name_m]!
