Do you prefer the name Mira or Sage?

[name_f]Mira[/name_f] (mee-ra) - meaning peace or world
[name_u]Sage[/name_u] (sayj) - meaning wisdom
Last name starts with S.

I like both these names a lot but each has pros/cons.
I think [name_f]Mira[/name_f] is beautiful and has a better ring with our last name, but it means “look” in Spanish (I live in a neighborhood with a lot of Hispanic families) and as a friend pointed out, sounds like “mirror” when kids say it.
I also think [name_u]Sage[/name_u] is beautiful, but many people consider it a boy’s name or think it sounds like a hippie name from the 60’s. Other people laugh and jump immediately to “onion-sage stuffing”! I really love it’s meaning of “wisdom”.

We chose [name_f]Mira[/name_f] because her grandmothers’s name is [name_f]Minerva[/name_f] (which we don’t like that much) and [name_u]Sage[/name_u] after “Sagittarius” (she will be one).
Can you imagine an adorable little girl and a lovely young woman with either name? I personally like both names, but it is important to consider other people’s thoughts… Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I like [name_f]Mira[/name_f] so much more! I think the similarity to ‘mirror’ is actually kinda cool, so that doesn’t bother me so much. As for the Spanish meaning, it’s lucky to have avoided having a more undesirable meaning! I will admit it may be annoying after a while if it’s constantly pointed out. I think it’s a great way to honor her grandmother; i’s a much stronger ‘honoring’ name than [name_u]Sage[/name_u].

I love both, but I prefer [name_f]Mira[/name_f]. [name_u]Sage[/name_u] with a last name beginning with an S makes me think of [name_u]Sage[/name_u] Stallone, [name_m]Sylvester[/name_m] Stallone’s son. I also think that the reference to her grandmother is much cooler and more meaningful than the reference to her zodiac sign.

I remember meeting a teenage girl named [name_f]Mira[/name_f] a few years ago and being really struck by how effortlessly elegant her name was. I love [name_u]Sage[/name_u] as well, both on a boy or a girl, but [name_f]Mira[/name_f] wins for me!

I prefer [name_f]Mira[/name_f]. I’m biased because [name_f]Mira[/name_f] is also on my list.

I adore [name_f]Mira[/name_f]!

Wow- overwhelming response for [name_f]Mira[/name_f]!
Thank you all!

You don’t think the “look” meaning will detract from its beauty at all?
I think [name_f]Mira[/name_f]'s reference is better as the first two posters suggested, but right now the DH does prefer [name_u]Sage[/name_u].

I prefer [name_f]Mira[/name_f] but know it can be confusing when you live in an area with many spanish-speaking people (I live in south florida). Still, it’s beautiful and there are many names with homonyms that don’t present major problems.

I prefer [name_f]Mira[/name_f]. I think it’s lovely.

I like [name_f]Mira[/name_f]! Definitely a name for an adorable little girl and a lovely woman.

[name_f]Mira[/name_f] is very nice! I know two completely different teen girls with various spellings of the name and they both wear it perfectly.

Definitely [name_f]Mira[/name_f]!

I like both [name_u]Sage[/name_u] and [name_f]Mira[/name_f]! [name_f]IMO[/name_f] [name_f]Mira[/name_f] will sit better with a little girl and an adult, I find it hard to picture a grown woman with the name [name_u]Sage[/name_u] but it is still a nice name and I know a little girl named [name_u]Sage[/name_u] so I don’t think of it as a masculine name.

I do prefer [name_f]Mira[/name_f]. I like the name [name_f]Minerva[/name_f] but didn’t think it would do so well as such an old name and [name_f]Mira[/name_f] is a great idea! I’ve loved the sound of [name_f]Mira[/name_f] ever since watching ‘[name_f]East[/name_f] Enders’ and they had a character named [name_f]Amira[/name_f]. If you named your daughter [name_f]Mira[/name_f] I don’t think the Hispanic will think anything of it lol there are probably many words in other languages that we name our kids without knowing it and it’s not like little [name_f]Mira[/name_f] will live in a Hispanic community for the rest of her life.

I also like how it sounds like mirror! It’s adorable, however both names are nice. Good luck!

[name_f]Mira[/name_f] [name_u]Sage[/name_u] sounds like a very good combo.

One of my favourite names is Miro for a boy.

Have you considered the spelling [name_u]Saige[/name_u]? I’m not sure which I like better. [name_f]Mira[/name_f] [name_u]Sage[/name_u] or [name_f]Mira[/name_f] [name_u]Saige[/name_u]…

[name_f]Mira[/name_f] is definitely my choice. It’s beautiful and sophisticated and it’s meaning in Spanish isn’t too bad. [name_f]Mira[/name_f] [name_u]Sage[/name_u] isn’t a bad combo… you could use both?

I do like the idea of [name_f]Mira[/name_f] [name_u]Sage[/name_u], thank you very much!

Someone brought up the idea of [name_f]Mina[/name_f] in honor of [name_f]Minerva[/name_f] rather than [name_f]Mira[/name_f] (I don’t know why I haven’t considered it!)
At present, I find [name_f]Mira[/name_f] a bit more attractive than [name_f]Mina[/name_f], perhaps because I’ve been staring at [name_f]Mira[/name_f] for a while now.
Any thoughts on [name_f]Mira[/name_f] v. [name_f]Mina[/name_f]?

[name_f]Mira[/name_f] by far.

I like both but [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Mira[/name_f]! [name_u]Sage[/name_u] I prefer as a middle name.

[name_f]Mira[/name_f] is soft, feminine and pretty so it gets my vote. [name_u]Sage[/name_u] is not only a wise man but it’s the name of an accounting software.

[name_f]Mira[/name_f] is so pretty!, but not too girly!

Another vote for the lovely [name_f]Mira[/name_f]!
