I know it’s a surname & I’ve extensively researched the name. I’m trying to work out which way the name sways more in terms of gender. I’m also not American
So, do you prefer this name on a boy or girl and can you picture it on a boy?
Hmm… I honestly don’t prefer it on either gender. I know two male Blairs and one female [name]Blaire[/name], as well as the Gossip Girl character, and I think they all suit the name.
I really think that it’s a matter of personal preference, and that the name will be equally accepted on a girl or a boy.
I think I prefer [name]Blair[/name] on a boy. It could sound quite masculine on the right person. Then again, it could also sound feminine. I think most people think of a girl when they see [name]Blair[/name], though. The [name]Blair[/name] spelling seems more masculine to me; [name]Blaire[/name] more feminine.
I have actually never met a girl name [name]Blair[/name], and I know three boys named [name]Blair[/name]: one is a senior in high school, the other is a junior, and one is four! Since I’ve known the two teenage Blairs for years, I have always thought of it as very masculine although I can see how Gossip Girl could have ruined that. But, I still find the name [name]Brooks[/name] masculine and can only see it on a boy, despite [name]Brook[/name]'s rising popularity with girls, so maybe [name]Blair[/name] is similar? (I know [name]Brooks[/name] is kind of random to bring up, but I feel like it has a similar feel/letter/length to [name]Blair[/name] and is also unisex)
In short, to me, its a masculine name and I can definitely picture it on a boy.
Oh, goodness, definitely a girl for me! I’ve actually only met one, and her name was [name]Blaire[/name]. Myself, I prefer the [name]Blair[/name] spelling. [name]Blaire[/name] was a bit of a tomboy, but she had a girlish side.
I like [name]Blair[/name] in the same way I like [name]Quinn[/name] for a girl. [name]Both[/name] are crisp and clean, sophisticated and simple, yet quirky and interesting in my opinion. [name]Both[/name], though slightly masculine in their direct sounds, seem to have feminine “edges.” I like them paired with feminine classics, along the lines of [name]Blair[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] and [name]Quinn[/name] [name]Louisa[/name]…
I love it for a girl! [name]Blair[/name] just sounds pretty to me. It’s prettier than [name]Claire[/name] although they are similar in sound. I think a little girl named [name]Blair[/name] would be adorable.
[name]Blair[/name] for a boy sounds a bit too pretentious.
I think I prefer it for a boy. I’ve never met a [name]Blair[/name] and I don’t watch Gossip Girl, so I don’t really have any associations… but wasn’t there a girl named [name]Blair[/name] on The Facts of Life?
I can’t get an image of a girl [name]Blair[/name], but I see a male [name]Blair[/name] as being sporty and preppy.
