I love [name_f]Alice[/name_f], not keen on the nn:[name_u]Ali[/name_u].
What do you think?
I love [name_f]Alice[/name_f], not keen on the nn:[name_u]Ali[/name_u].
What do you think?
I mean, I think an [name_f]Alice[/name_f] could certainly go by [name_u]Ali[/name_u]/[name_f]Ally[/name_f]/[name_u]Allie[/name_u] if you wanted her to. But I wouldn’t expect [name_f]Alice[/name_f] to get a nn, really. It’s short enough on its own.
Not really. If anything I’d probably nickname her [name_f]Lizzie[/name_f].
I’d introduce her has [name_f]Alice[/name_f], and until she’s old enough to tell people she prefers otherwise, she’ll be called [name_f]Alice[/name_f].
Honestly? The [name_m]Al[/name_m]/[name_u]Ali[/name_u]/[name_f]Ally[/name_f]/[name_u]Allie[/name_u] nickname potential is what made my FI and I eventually close the door on this name. My family could find a nickname in almost any name, and with the classically beautiful [name_f]Alice[/name_f], I didn’t want to risk an “[name_m]Al[/name_m]” nickname.
She might be. You can’t rule it out. On the other hand it wouldn’t have occurred to me and I’ve never met an [name_f]Alice[/name_f] who went by [name_u]Ali[/name_u] - I agree that [name_f]Alice[/name_f] is short enough to really not need a nickname. All the women called [name_u]Ali[/name_u] that I have ever met have been Alisons. It would be an option for an [name_f]Alice[/name_f] to go by [name_u]Ali[/name_u] but it’s not one of those automatic nicknames that are hard to avoid, in my opinion.
Agreeing with everyone else. An [name_f]Alice[/name_f] could choose to go by [name_u]Ali[/name_u] if she wanted to, but [name_f]Alice[/name_f] is short enough that most people won’t automatically shorten it, and if they do, [name_m]Al[/name_m] feels more natural than [name_u]Ali[/name_u].
The only [name_f]Alice[/name_f] I know with a nickname is [name_m]Al[/name_m], if anything shorter. You could always press for Lissy if not having a nickname were to be a problem - I don’t think [name_u]Ali[/name_u] is intuitive.
I think [name_f]Alice[/name_f] is short enough that if everyone hears you call her [name_f]Alice[/name_f], that will be her name.
My thought exactly.
I’ve seen [name_u]Ali[/name_u] as a nickname for [name_f]Alison[/name_f] and [name_f]Alyssa[/name_f], but I think that Lissy would be the more intuitive nickname. I also agree that [name_f]Alice[/name_f] is probably short enough that people wouldn’t automatically give her a nickname
Maybe? I wouldn’t say that [name_u]Ali[/name_u] is a super intuitive nickname for [name_f]Alice[/name_f]. Maybe Allers or Lissy?? I think if she was always introduced as [name_f]Alice[/name_f], that would be her name. I know an [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] who goes by just [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and people rarelyyy try and shorten it to [name_f]Liz[/name_f]. Naming her [name_f]Alice[/name_f] means that the door would be open to possibility of an [name_m]Al[/name_m] nickname and that’s that. It’s part of the name. All you can do is enforce “just” [name_f]Alice[/name_f]…and hope for the best?
I know an [name_f]Alice[/name_f] who chooses to go by [name_u]Ali[/name_u] but I don’t think it will be shortened if you don’t want it to be
[name_f]Alice[/name_f] is my favourite girl’s name, so I may be biased, but I think it is totally perfect no matter the nicknames. I know an [name_f]Alice[/name_f] and people call her ‘[name_m]Al[/name_m]’, but never as a nickname, more as a fond name when talking to her. I think she would only be ‘[name_u]Ali[/name_u]’ if she was [name_f]Alison[/name_f]/[name_f]Alicia[/name_f] etc.
Most.likely not…
I think it’s pretty unlikely unless you start it or she introduces herself like that. I’ve never known an Aliceto go by a nn
