Do you think Elowen and Fern will catch on?

I love the botanical vibe of [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] and [name_f]Fern[/name_f], but I wanted something unique, and I’m worried that they’ll become more and more popular. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think it is “safe” to put the name on my list for a girl? [name_u]Or[/name_u] will it continue to increase in popularity?
Also, do you think [name_f]Fern[/name_f] is getting too old for it to lose its appeal?
Please tell me your opinion, thank you very much.

I bet [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] gets popular as so many el names seem to be. But I doubt any one of them will become an [name_f]Emma[/name_f] or a [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f].

[name_f]Fern[/name_f] is to me timeless. I love [name_f]Fern[/name_f]. I can’t imagine 5 Ferns per class but who knows.

Follow your heart…

[name_f]Elowen[/name_f] and [name_f]Fern[/name_f] are both fairly popular already where I am, and I do believe they’ll catch on elsewhere too! [name_f]Fern[/name_f] is truly timeless to me, it doesn’t sound old at all.

For me Elowen is a name that’s popular on here but not in real life, and I can’t really see it becoming truly popular/overly used. I could be wrong and obviously I’m only thinking about where I’m from (Australia).

Fern isn’t popular here either but I could imagine it catching on more so. It definitely fits into the nature/botanical trend and also has a vintage feel that’s certainly in at the moment.

I adore both names (and have them on my list) so I say go for it!

I love [name_f]Fern[/name_f], and I can see it getting a little more popular but not wildly so. It’s quite a specific style – strong, sleek, tailored rather than super-feminine, and despite its old-fashioned vibe to me it doesn’t feel “vintage” in the same way that other traditional nature names like [name_f]Violet[/name_f] or [name_f]Olive[/name_f] do.

[name_f]Elowen[/name_f] I think has the potential to rise higher, despite its rarity at the moment. It’s got a flowy, feminine but not frilly sound, plus that popular [name_f]El[/name_f]- beginning and -en ending.

I agree with @katinka, I can see [name_f]Fern[/name_f] gaining in popularity but no more so than other vintage nature names like [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] and [name_f]Olive[/name_f].

[name_f]Elowen[/name_f] on the other hand, has the fashionable [name_f]El[/name_f]- beginning and -en ending and the popular nickname [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], so I can definitely see that gaining momentum with parents. I’m also seeing it on A LOT more name lists around the web, more so than it used to be (and more than Fern).

I think [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] is more likely to get popular as it’s an [name_f]El[/name_f] name and similar to [name_f]Elodie[/name_f], [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] and [name_f]Lola[/name_f]. I don’t think it will become super popular though.

[name_f]Fern[/name_f] I don’t think will get overly popular

Both are gorgeous names though

Both names are so pretty. I am in [name_f]Canada[/name_f] and I don’t think either are truly popular. [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] maybe more so

I think [name_f]Fern[/name_f] is coming back a lot I’ve heard it so much recently. I think the spelling [name_f]Ferne[/name_f] was getting a bit old in the 90s but without the e it’s been revived as a ‘cooler’ nature name. [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] is really pretty and a nice alternative to more popular [name_f]El[/name_f]- names. I don’t see it ever becoming as popular as [name_f]Fern[/name_f] could.

Perhaps but I can’t see either of them becoming the new Sophia or Emily. Elowen in particular is a bit too obscure to appeal to the “average” parent, in my view. (Unless you live in Cornwall.)

I think they will!

[name_f]Fern[/name_f] would have a revive but it would be like, say, [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] or [name_f]Ida[/name_f]. Fashionable but not the next [name_f]Olivia[/name_f].

[name_f]Elowen[/name_f], I think it will rise. It contains very trendy sounds and I see it mentioned outside Nameberry.

[name_f]Elowen[/name_f] seems like a name to be on the charts, but not super high like [name_f]Ava[/name_f] or [name_f]Emily[/name_f]. [name_f]Fern[/name_f] is timeless! I don’t think either will blow up.

[name_m]Hi[/name_m]! [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] and [name_f]Fern[/name_f] are so beautiful-
I do feel like [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] is becoming and will continue to become very well-known. :slightly_frowning_face: Her popularity pattern reminds me of the stark growth of Luna… However! I feel as though she does share the pattern more so with [name_u]Willow[/name_u] and [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], who will still have an almost timeless touch post-top charts. This is meaning that even though there may be notable grandmas named [name_f]Elowen[/name_f], many will actually end up loving the idea of a baby [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] even at that time period. :two_hearts:
[name_f]Fern[/name_f], on the other hand, is incredibly vintage- she will last for a life time, just like [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]. xx
Your two loves will fare very well! [name_m]Even[/name_m] with [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] being more of the concern here, she will also do just fine~

In some ways, yes. I expect that Elowen will become more popular than Fern, but I expect both of them to rise. I will say, though, that I think Nameberry represents a pretty specific demographic; based on your age, income bracket, and place of residence, your child could be the only Elowen or Fern for miles around or one of three or four in her school. Name use is pretty consistently diversifying, though, so no matter what I certainly wouldn’t expect to see either name become another Mary or even another Lauren or Jessica.

I think [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] has the potential to rise a lot. I know someone who is expecting a grandchild- her son and daughter-in-law seem really “hip”. I guessed correctly that [name_f]Isla[/name_f] is on their list. The other name on their list that I didn’t guess is [name_f]Elowen[/name_f]. It has that trendy sound.

[name_f]Fern[/name_f] has a less trendy sound, but maybe could rise a little bit with other nature names. It is a lovely, not too elderly name!

I adore both [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] and [name_f]Fern[/name_f]! I think they might become more popular but, as other users have said, not to the point where it’ll be a big issue. [name_f]Fern[/name_f] doesn’t seem old to me at all
