What do you think of the name [name]Lucien[/name]? Pronounced loo-shan not loo-see-an. I like the sound of it but worry it sounds like [name]Lucifer[/name]. My husband loves it and loves [name]Lucius[/name] even more (but I veto that one).
What do you think? and how does it sound with [name]Leo[/name]?
We might do [name]Lucien[/name] [name]Theodore[/name] or [name]Lucien[/name] [name]Edward[/name]
I don’t think [name]Lucien[/name] sounds evil. I read a blog one time about French parents in NYC that had an adorable blue-eyed blonde son named [name]Lucien[/name] that’s what I think of every time.
[name]Lucius[/name] reminds me too much of [name]Lucius[/name] Malfoy. Now THAT’S evil, haha.
No! [name]Lucien[/name] and [name]Lucian[/name] do NOT sound evil.
[name]Both[/name] are gorgeous names for boys.
I did think though that [name]Lucien[/name] (with an e) was pronounced (Loo see en) and [name]Lucian[/name] (with an a) was (Loo shen).
When I hear (Loo shen) I think of [name]Lucian[/name] Freud, the painter.
And when I hear (Loo see en) I just think French!
I love both names!
At first thought, yes. I instantly think of [name]Lucifer[/name].
However, the name itself means “light”.
[name]How[/name] can light be evil?
There is also [name]Saint[/name] [name]Lucian[/name]…
I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Lucien[/name] and don’t get an evil vibe from it at all - more of a regal, handsome one! Although, I am inclined to intuitively pronounce [name]Lucien[/name] as loo-see-en and [name]Lucian[/name] as loo-shan.
A brother named [name]Leo[/name]? I think that would be too close…if you were asking about [name]Leo[/name] as a nn, I think it can work.
[name]Both[/name] [name]Lucien[/name] [name]Theodore[/name] and [name]Lucien[/name] [name]Edward[/name] are lovely, but I do slightly prefer [name]Lucien[/name] [name]Theodore[/name].
I kind of agree with this. I don’t think it actually sounds evil, but it’s not a nice boy name. [name]Lucien[/name]/[name]Lucian[/name]/[name]Lucius[/name] are on the edge names, people in the twilight. Between good and bad, edgy, interesting, fascinating, hypnotising, enthralling…
I like [name]Lucien[/name] much, it’s such a cool name with historical feel.
As for being evil, it’s somewhere on the edge - enigmatic, mysterious, magical…And it may sound that because it’s a few letters shy from [name]Lucius[/name] Malfoy? Anyway, I love bad boys!
Well in books and movies [name]Lucian[/name]/[name]Lucien[/name]/[name]Lucius[/name] tends to be the bad guy. I think it’s closeness to [name]Lucifer[/name] makes it a name writers tend to use for a devious, mean, dangerous character. It’s the same way with [name]Damon[/name]/[name]Damien[/name]/[name]Damian[/name] because of it’s closeness to demon
Looks like responses are mixed haha. I have no problems spelling it [name]Lucian[/name] if that is the more intuitive form for the way we are pronouncing it. I just feel like the loo-see-in pronunciation is a bit pretentious if you aren’t French.
But you guys think it sounds too matchy with [name]Leo[/name]?
I don’t think it’s bad with [name]Leo[/name]. I’m personally not a big fan of using the same initial, but if it doesn’t bother you, go for it. [name]Leo[/name] [name]Alexander[/name] is precious, by the way.
This is exactly the vibe I get from [name]Lucien[/name], [name]Lucian[/name], [name]Lucius[/name]…these boys are seductive…but you can never tell…they might be bright and powerful and good, or they might be dark stars…which does go back to [name]Lucifer[/name]'s story.
But of course, all it takes is one adorable little [name]Lucien[/name] in your life to alter the name for you personally! If you love the name, I’d go with it. I am not a fan of alliteration in sibsets, though, so if you are considering [name]Lucien[/name] to be [name]Leo[/name]'s little brother, I’d vote no.
Vaguely evil, yes. Sorry. Brothers [name]Leo[/name] and [name]Lucien[/name], it’s okay if you’re into matchy names, but I’m not, and it’s really matchy - like brothers I know named [name]Ethan[/name] and [name]Aidan[/name].
[name]Lucien[/name]/[name]Lucian[/name]/[name]Lucius[/name] (can’t decide which!) are among my favorite boy names, so I don’t think of [name]Lucien[/name] as evil. I find I’m agreeing with those who say he’s on the edge. These names do not feel sunny, like [name]Mason[/name], [name]Ethan[/name] or [name]Jamie[/name]. They feel powerful, either for good or for evil–intense, subtle, intelligent.
[name]Leo[/name] and [name]Lucien[/name] are a bit matchy for my personal taste, but if you like the shared initial and same syllable count, go for it anyway. They aren’t like Coleson and [name]Carson[/name] (twins I know :() or [name]Jayden[/name] and [name]Kayden[/name].
Meh, [name]Lucien[/name] seems sort of evil (the proper pronunciation is loo-see-ehn, though. LOO-shuhn is [name]Lucian[/name]), for some reason, but [name]Lucian[/name], to me, doesn’t seem that way at all. [name]Lucius[/name], however, feels quite evil to me. I’m not sure why [name]Lucian[/name] is fine, and the others invoke a sense of evil to me. I do love [name]Lucian[/name], though!
