I really like [name_f]Violette[/name_f], it’s supposed to be pronounced vee-oh-let, it’s [name_m]French[/name_m]. But I just know that 99.9% of the average people we’ll come across will pronounce it like [name_f]Violet[/name_f]. Personally I don’t have that much of an issue, like I might not even bother correcting them, and even entertain the idea of calling her by that pronunciation myself. but it feels so wrong, and I’m afraid she’ll be bothered by this. I really just prefer the spelling of [name_f]Violette[/name_f] much more over [name_f]Violet[/name_f]. It just looks more feminine and frilly, which I like. While Violet looks so dry to me and gives a “common” feel.
what do you think? too much hassle to be worth it?
I’ve also heard it pronounced vy-uh-LET in English speaking countries, sort of like [name_f]Violet[/name_f], but with the final syllable being stressed rather than the first.
I think, if you used both pronunciations you described, it would be ultimately be her that decided which she liked best or if she liked both, so be prepared for that if you do use both.
I wouldn’t think it was [name_f]Violet[/name_f]. I don’t suspect that it’ll be a problem more than once- if someone says [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and is corrected, the spelling is different, so I think they’ll accept it pretty quick.
By the way, I love this name- it’s got all the great qualities of [name_f]Violet[/name_f] but it doesn’t sound like “violent.”
I personally love [name_f]Violette[/name_f], precisely for the reason that it’s Vee-oh-let, which I think sounds so much better than [name_f]Violet[/name_f]. It’s hard to say though, because I’m familiar with the name, I find it difficult to judge how others would say it. To me it’s really obvious that it would be said differently to [name_f]Violet[/name_f], but then we’re all or mostly namenerds here haha. I think there would be some uncertainty, but it could probably be easily rectified, and I think it’s very much worth it for the much nicer (in my opinion) sound of [name_f]Violette[/name_f].
