My husband and I have decided on [name]Violet[/name] as the name for our daughter due in [name]April[/name]. Nameberry claims this name is becoming extremely popular. It was #123 on the social security list last year and I’m expecting it to rise again, but hopefully not by much. [name]Do[/name] you think [name]Violet[/name] is headed towards the top 20? [name]How[/name] many little girls named [name]Violet[/name] do you know?
I love [name]Violet[/name]! I really hope it’s not headed for megapopularity, but due to how its been received in the past few years, I do think it’ll rise significantly still. I don’t know if it’ll make it to top 10 popularity… it’s just one of those names that doesn’t appeal to everybody. My family thinks it’s awful, haha. Ironically, I would use it to honor just about half my family, lol. It doesn’t have the wide appeal in multiple ethnicities, economic levels, etc., that some names like [name]Isabella[/name], [name]Olivia[/name], [name]Gabriella[/name], [name]Maya[/name], [name]Kylie[/name], [name]Hannah[/name], [name]Avery[/name], etc., do. I think it will continue to rise but I think (and hope!) it won’t go much above the 50-level. Hopefully it’ll stop before it reaches the top 100!
Good luck!
It’s a beautiful name. I think it might continue to rise in popularity, but, like ashthedreamer said, it’s not the sort of name that would appeal to everyone. I think there’s a big % of people who might consider it “too old-fashioned.” (Something I view as a plus … but it’s not for everybody!) I’d also be very surprised if it showed up in the top 10 one day.
I agree, I hope not. It hasn’t made any giant leaps yet, so I would predict it would continue to creep up - and if you look at the other ‘creepers’ ([name]Olivia[/name], [name]Sophia[/name]) it takes them a good ten years to get 50 spots ahead once they are up there, so that is promising too.
I agree with ash and [name]Tristan[/name]! I have a violet and I am so so so happy with it. I just adore this name. My sweet little daughter might help that, haha. But still it’s sweet cute and has such great associations. I love dressin her in purple and buying her violets. Her nursery was fun to decorate too :-). People love this name.
That said it will rise. I don’t think it will reach top 10. [name]Don[/name]'t know if it will rise above top 50. It might. But like the berries said. It doesn’t have the universal appeal as some of the other top names these days. Some might find it too old fashioned. And many feel it’s too close to the word violent. And others think it’s too mich of a celeb name. Yay! I’m glad!! Haha
My family didn’t like this name at first. My dh and mom down right hated it. Lol. Now? They looove it and can’t imagine my
[name]Little[/name] girl as anything else. I fought for this name and fought hard?
It was worth it
i know a beautiful [name]Violet[/name] who is 8 years old. at the time she was born it was very unusual/verging on little old lady-ish. soon after ben affleck named his kid [name]Violet[/name]. at this point i think it’s just plain pretty, but not very unusual and it’s lost it’s old fashioned feel. i don’t know if it will ever be super-popular. i could see it staying in the top 50 for a long time, but never making it to the bigtime.
I agree that it will rise and break into the top 100-- I know two under age 5 right now. But I don’t know if it will be mega popular for the reasons above and agree that it will be a relatively slow rise (not like [name]Ashley[/name] or [name]Nicole[/name] a few years ago).
Yes I believe so, it is already in top 100 in my state in Australia. I agree with pp’s I dont think it would get to be a top 10 name in [name]America[/name] but who knows, it usually takes several years for a name to jump that many spots.
