With both our daughters we planned our their names and their nicknames well before they were born. [name]Elizabeth[/name] nn [name]Libby[/name] and [name]Annabelle[/name] nn [name]Anna[/name]. Well we don’t call [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Libby[/name] (the idea seems crazy now) and we have never called [name]Annabelle[/name] [name]Anna[/name]. [name]Elizabeth[/name] has become Miss E ([name]Missy[/name]) and [name]Annabelle[/name] is [name]Belle[/name] or [name]Belle[/name] [name]Belle[/name].
Did you plan on using a different nickname for your children than what you use?
Funny…yeah, our [name]Elizabeth[/name] was also supposed to be either [name]Libby[/name] or [name]Betsy[/name], depending on which one fit her better as her personality came out, and then the older kids took over and started calling her [name]Lizzie[/name]. Other than that, we have a bunch of boys with short names who don’t really use nicknames. I think it’s fine to let the nickname come naturally and not plan it out at all. It almost seems forced to set the nickname in stone before the baby is even born!
My mom is another [name]Elizabeth[/name]. My grandma wanted to call her [name]Beth[/name], but one of her uncles started calling her [name]Betsy[/name] and it stuck.
We chose [name]Ivy[/name] partially because it’s not really prone to nicknames. We might as well have put “Boo” on her birth certificate for how much we actually call her by her name.
My younger sister in law was called [name]Hazel[/name] [name]Lu[/name] for about a year but [name]Lucy[/name] stuck more so she’s now [name]Lucy[/name], not even close to [name]Hazel[/name]. My youngest sister in law is generally [name]Edie[/name] but also gets called Pea Weeder for her knack of pocking peas out of her food. Neither planned but what can you do?
Omg yes! [name]Leonie[/name] I figured would be [name]Lee[/name], which what I call my sister (who is also an [name]Elizabeth[/name]! What a versatile name!) But she is [name]Leo[/name], [name]Lola[/name], sometimes even [name]Lennie[/name]! Often she is [name]Minnie[/name] or Boo as well! We never call her [name]Lee[/name]. I still feel like I honored my sister in a roundabout way which is a bit of a family tradition!
We thought we would call [name]Bronwen[/name] “[name]Wynn[/name]” but it never fit her so we never have. Alwaus call her by her full name or Miss B or B. Intended to call [name]Violet[/name] “[name]Vi[/name]” as her nn but after she got mobile she became “Vio” because ny husband jokingly called our very active/haphazard baby “Vio hazzard”.
Vio [name]Hazard[/name] made me LOL… Definitely sounds like a nn my boyfriend would come up with!! Ahh I almost want that name on my baby list just for that nn option! (But i’ll refrain since i have about 30 first names on the list as it is… gulp)
(we have a dog named [name]Lulu[/name] and he calls her “luser” all the time… affectionately, of course! Or Chewy Luey, or [name]Lucifer[/name]…)
Vio hazzard! [name]Love[/name] it! That sounds like something my husband would joke about too
We have lots of other nicknames for our girls to that aren’t even close to their names! Like I said before we call [name]Elizabeth[/name], Miss E but we also call her Pebbles because when she first had a pony tail she looked like Pebbles from the Flintstones! Apart from [name]Belle[/name] we call [name]Annabelle[/name] [name]Trixie[/name] becuase when she started rolling our eldest kept talking about her doing lots of tricks
My neighbor’s child (a while back) is [name]Michelle[/name]. Her parents were hoping to use the nn [name]Elle[/name], but [name]Micha[/name] stuck instead. She went through a brief “[name]Shell[/name]” phase as well, but it didn’t last.
Yes! I have an [name]Isabella[/name] and a [name]Vanessa[/name] and didn’t plan on using nicknames with either one when I was considering their names, but now I’m calling them [name]Bella[/name] and [name]Nessa[/name] more often than [name]Isabella[/name] and [name]Vanessa[/name]. Also, my ODD, [name]Isabella[/name] just told me that kids in school are calling her [name]Izzy[/name], which I personally don’t care for, but she says she likes it.
When we chose [name]Archer[/name] I hated the nickname [name]Archie[/name]. My grandparents used to have [name]Archie[/name] comics in the bathroom, and I thought they were dumb. Now I prefer [name]Archie[/name] to [name]Archer[/name] actually. We do call him [name]Arch[/name] also, his original picked nickname.
Is it a little crazy that I worry about that happening when my kids go to school? lol. I really don’t like the nn [name]Liz[/name] for [name]Elizabeth[/name] and cringe whenever someone refers to her as that. I am so paranoid kids are going to start calling her [name]Lizzy[/name]!
