I just posted a thread a couple minutes ago, seeking advice on middle names for our little girl. I love the name [name]Maxine[/name], and was thinking that [name]Maxine[/name] [name]Winter[/name] would be a pretty combo… but my husband immediately said “but she is going to be born in [name]April[/name] or [name]May[/name]!!!”
[name]Do[/name] you think a baby needs to be born in [name]Winter[/name]/have significant tie to that season in order to use the name?
(Having same problem with [name]June[/name]… love it as a MN but she will probably be born in [name]May[/name]…)
I was an [name]August[/name] baby, which is primarily why my mum didn’t let my dad name me [name]Winter[/name], which is his all time favourite. Poor him.
I don’t think it’s a big issue really. I know a little girl named [name]Summer[/name] born in February, and month names are used a lot even when the child was not born on that certain month. Plus it’s in the middle. [name]April[/name]/[name]May[/name] is still early/mid [name]Spring[/name], anyway, if you’re looking at it from a truly seasonal point of view.
It really depends on how much ‘authenticity’ matters to you. To me it wouldn’t feel quite as special if she wasn’t born in winter, but if you love it, I would use it.
On a side note, [name]Maxine[/name] [name]Winter[/name] is lovely!
That’s a hard one. I think that people will ask if she was born in the winter. I would ask! I would be curious as to why you chose the name [name]Winter[/name]. Which I love, by the way! I have a name crush on months and seasons, but if you dont mind being asked, do it! I’m sure you will make great winter memories to talk about, you can even say that during your pregnancy it was winter, idk, am I stretching it? Lol. I think [name]June[/name] would get less questions, as far as I know it’s more common. My Aunt’s middle name is [name]June[/name] after a person, not the month. I hope this helps! Good luck!
[name]Maxine[/name] [name]Winter[/name] is a wonderful combo! I don’t think she’ll have to be born in winter, and it’s a middle name, so it won’t be as frequent as her first. I’m sure people will ask if she was born in winter, but she can just say she wasn’t. [name]Don[/name]'t worry.
PS [name]June[/name] is very nice, too. [name]June[/name] [name]Winter[/name] would probably feel a bit odd as a first-name-middle-name combination, but not impossibly so.
I don’t think so. We know an [name]Autumn[/name] born in February.
Especially being her middle name, I highly doubt anyone would question it. Besides, I think if [name]Winter[/name] is simply your favorite season you ought to be able to use it as a name anytime.
A cousin named her daughter [name]Winter[/name] [name]Madeline[/name]. Her husband is a meteorologist, and his favorite season is winter. She was born in [name]September[/name], and it’s never been an issue for them. When people ask, she tells them the above.
My mother in law is named [name]June[/name] and her birthday is in [name]August[/name]! We all have our favorite months and seasons - so I think it is totally fine to use [name]Winter[/name]
I don’t think it’s unreasonable to name a summer baby [name]Winter[/name]. My name means “born at Yuletide” but I was born in [name]August[/name]. I’d go for it if you love it.
I think it’s fine. [name]One[/name] group of people think it’s tacky to be named after the season you were born in ([name]Mae[/name] being a [name]May[/name] baby, an [name]August[/name] born in [name]August[/name], an [name]Autumn[/name] being born in [name]October[/name], etc.), and others think it’s weird if you’re named after a time of year that you weren’t born in (a [name]Winter[/name] born in [name]July[/name], for example). I know people born in both camps–a [name]Kelsey[/name] [name]Summer[/name] born in [name]August[/name], a [name]Romilly[/name] [name]Autumn[/name] [name]Wren[/name] born in [name]October[/name], a [name]Ruth[/name] [name]Mae[/name] born in February, a [name]Summer[/name] born in [name]March[/name], etc. In fact, my sister’s name ([name]Natalie[/name]) means “[name]Christ[/name]'s birthday”, and she was born in [name]October[/name], but I knew someone who had an Aunt [name]Noelle[/name] born on [name]Christmas[/name] day and she hated the constant reminder that she was born on [name]Christmas[/name]. My sister loves the connection to [name]Christmas[/name] with her name. I think, if you love the name, you should just go for it! I don’t think most people will notice, especially if it’s just a MN. My coworker ([name]Summer[/name]) loves her name but she hates that everyone always asks if she was born in the summer, because she wasn’t, but the [name]Kelsey[/name] [name]Summer[/name] I know is never really asked about her MN and when she was born.
And I love [name]Winter[/name], btw. I think it’s a great choice, and [name]Maxine[/name] [name]Winter[/name] is pretty cute. If you love it, I would go for it!
