Does anyone else REALLY like the name Liberty?

I really love this name! I think it’s a classy, virtuous name. I was wondering how you all felt. [name_f]Do[/name_f] people feel as if it’s too political?

No, it’s not political at all IMO. To be fair, even a name like [name_u]Democracy[/name_u] wouldn’t be entirely political to me.

[name_f]Liberty[/name_f] and [name_u]Democracy[/name_u] are considered very important American values, but I think they may be seen as universal values in the Western World, not really associated with one particular party or social movement.

I think [name_f]Liberty[/name_f] is no worse than [name_f]Hope[/name_f], [name_f]Grace[/name_f] or [name_f]Faith[/name_f] is, in terms of virtue names. Plus, it has adorable nickname possiblities like [name_f]Libby[/name_f] or [name_u]Bertie[/name_u]. There’s also [name_f]Lilibet[/name_f], [name_u]Berry[/name_u] or [name_f]Thea[/name_f], although that might be a bit of a stretch.

I think [name_f]Liberty[/name_f] works really well with middle names that are not word names, for example:

[name_f]Liberty[/name_f] [name_f]Amalia[/name_f]
[name_f]Liberty[/name_f] [name_f]Hannah[/name_f]
[name_f]Liberty[/name_f] [name_f]Valentina[/name_f]
[name_f]Liberty[/name_f] [name_f]Winona[/name_f]
[name_f]Liberty[/name_f] [name_f]Bellerose[/name_f] “Libby-Belle”
[name_f]Liberty[/name_f] [name_f]Marilyn[/name_f] “Libby-Mae”
[name_f]Liberty[/name_f] [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f]
[name_f]Liberty[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]
[name_f]Liberty[/name_f] [name_f]Victoria[/name_f]
[name_f]Liberty[/name_f] [name_f]Cecelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Liberty[/name_f] [name_f]Felicia[/name_f]

or shorter ones:
[name_f]Liberty[/name_f] [name_u]Joan[/name_u] “Libby-Jo”
[name_f]Liberty[/name_f] [name_f]Farrah[/name_f]
[name_f]Liberty[/name_f] [name_f]Gianna[/name_f]
[name_f]Liberty[/name_f] [name_f]Cassia[/name_f]
[name_f]Liberty[/name_f] [name_f]Ruth[/name_f]
[name_f]Liberty[/name_f] [name_f]Aida[/name_f]
[name_f]Liberty[/name_f] [name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_f]Liberty[/name_f] [name_f]Zahra[/name_f]
[name_f]Liberty[/name_f] [name_u]Blaire[/name_u]
[name_f]Liberty[/name_f] [name_u]Louise[/name_u] “Lilou”

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps!

I love [name_f]Liberty[/name_f]! S/O vetoed it or else it’d be on my list! It doesn’t feel political to me, more like a virtue name! If it helps, on the tv show Degrassi back in the 2000s there was a character on it named [name_f]Liberty[/name_f] who was pretty cool!

I read a book a loooong time ago with twins [name_f]Liberty[/name_f] “Libby” (g) and [name_u]Justice[/name_u] “Jud” (b).

I feel like [name_f]Liberty[/name_f] is less political than [name_u]Justice[/name_u]. And I agree that [name_f]Liberty[/name_f] feels pretty similar to [name_f]Faith[/name_f], [name_f]Hope[/name_f], etc.

Does it make a statement? Yes. Is it too political? Maybe or maybe not, idk. I wouldn’t use it but I wouldn’t judge someone else for using it.

It’s definitely an American name, but would be cool to have a British girl named this.

Me! I love it! I feel very similar to you, I get virtue and freedom feelings out of the name [name_f]Liberty[/name_f]. I know it’s considered very patriotic in the USA, but I’m not there so I don’t feel like that’s a huge issue for me.

GP for me now, but I had a huge crush on it at one point – before I joined Nameberry.

It’s not one of my favourites but I do think it’s a nice name. I’m not American so I don’t know about the political connotations. To me, liberty is pretty universal value.

These were my thoughts pretty much exactly. I really like it in theory, but for me Liberty U is a very strong association. Maybe just because of my location though?

It’s got a pretty sound, but I’m in the US and I’ve had a couple students named [name_f]Liberty[/name_f] and every single one of them had parents that…didn’t believe in liberty for all, for lack of a better phrase. So, I am not too keen on it, because it seems tied to a certain type of hypocritical individual that I will never agree with, who is holding back progress for liberty and equality.

[name_f]Liberty[/name_f] is a guilty pleasure name for me! I love the nickname [name_f]Libby[/name_f]. I personally feel it’s too polarizing if you’re an American in today’s climate, but still a very beautiful name.

My only issue with Liberty is the judgement you might get for having this name particularly as a first name. I wouldn’t want to have a name that led to people making a lot of assumptions about my background or my parents. It is a lovely and powerful name.

It’s not my absolute favorite but I definitely like it! And I find it political but not overly - everyone on all sides of the political spectrum has always wanted some form of freedom.

I like [name_f]Liberty[/name_f] nn [name_f]Libby[/name_f] over [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] nn [name_f]Libby[/name_f]!

I’ve had a couple students with the name [name_f]Liberty[/name_f], which made it seem more like a name than a word to me even though it’s so widely known as a word. I don’t believe they had any issues, no one made fun of their names. It doesn’t come off as political to me, though it does remind me of the US in general. It’s not my style, but I think it makes a perfectly fine name.

I love [name_f]Liberty[/name_f]! [name_u]Bright[/name_u], bubbly and sweet. I don’t think it’s too political

I think it’s an awesome name!! (Obviously, seeing as it’s part of my user name!) It has a fantastic meaning, it’s really bright and strong-sounding, and it’s also still really pretty and still sounds like a name!
I don’t think it’s too political. Would I be inclined to guess that Liberty’s parents were of a certain political leaning? Yes. But both liberty as a concept and Liberty as a name really should not be considered controversial, and if there is anyone who thinks of them as such, in my opinion, I don’t think you should worry about pleasing them.

I agree, I would make assumptions about the political leanings of the parents as well. Liberty as a concept isn’t too political, but it is closely tied in with american patriotism and even nationalism, so that makes it a bit political to me

I grew up with a British girl named this which has made it more useable for me. She went by Libby and for the longest time I assumed all little girls named Libby were actually called Liberty.

Probably still wouldn’t use it in real life in case it was seen to make a statement about my views on the US.

I really want to like it (Libby is just darling), but for some reason it feels… cheap? I don’t know, I don’t want to sound rude or anything, but something about it just doesn’t vibe with me.
