We have been decided on [name]Avery[/name] for a boy for quite some time now. Maybe almost a year already. Anyhow, we found out almost 3 weeks ago our second baby is another boy so we are for sure using [name]Avery[/name]. I am just wondering if anyone on nameberry has used it for a son or knows any male Averys… I know in some places its a popular choice for a girl(which I don’t like, though I guess I can see why it is following the trend. It is a “softer” name and ends in the “ee” sound.) When I told my sister(who lives in [name]CA[/name]) she said she only heard it for girls…(Ughh!) Anyhow, I said, “well its a boy name people use on girls.”
I met someone today who said, “OH I know a girl [name]Avery[/name]. I like it for both genders!” To me its all boy and I’m just curious what the majority think or what others have experienced in real life concerning this name. ( I think of the boy [name]Avery[/name] in [name]Charlotte[/name]'s [name]Web[/name]. Anyone else? ) Our son’s name is [name]Cuyler[/name] and I feel [name]Avery[/name] goes well with it, although that is very subjective according to people’s taste.
The only real life [name]Avery[/name] I know is a boy. I can see the appeal as a girl’s name, but I automatically think boy when I hear the name. [name]Avery[/name] and [name]Cuyler[/name] go well together.
I think [name]Avery[/name] is fine as a boy name. I work in the education field and I have had both boys and girls named [name]Avery[/name]. I think of it as a unisex name.
I love [name]Avery[/name] and struggled with it as a name on my list for this exact reason! I like some boy names on girls, I admit, but then as a mother of soon to be 4 boys and 1 girl it bothers me to have the male names I love associated with females!
I think of a boy first when I hear the name [name]Avery[/name], though I do consider it unisex. I like it with your son’s name. [name]Cuyler[/name] and [name]Avery[/name] match well.
The first [name]Avery[/name] I knew was a boy, but since him I’ve only ever met girl Averys. Personally, I don’t care for the name, but far prefer it on boys!!!
I only know girl [name]Avery[/name]'s and in [name]CA[/name] there are a LOT of them! Seems to depend on where you live. According to the Social Security site, it’s ranked #18 for girls and #205 for boys, so as a whole it’s definitely seen as more of a girl name, but it is unisex. ALL sorts of boy names are becoming girl names now though- [name]Alden[/name], [name]Sawyer[/name]??? I don’t get it but whatever, seems to be the direction things are going.
From what I can recall, I have only met one [name]Avery[/name], and that was 10 years ago. He should be about 12 now. He was such a sweet, clumsy, and happy boy. Also, very affectionate and loving.
I’m pretty sure we’ve discussed it already, but here it is, for what it’s worth: People know I love [name]Avery[/name] for a boy, haha. Many people I’ve known will come up to me, and be like, “Oh, [name]Ashley[/name], guess who I met today? A little boy named [name]Avery[/name]! [name]Aren[/name]'t you excited? I knew you would be! I asked his mom, and she said she’s never had any problems with it!” This has probably happened to me half a dozen times, lol. So while I don’t know any little boy Averys in real life, I have no qualms about using it, personally. Besides, it’s the most popular it’s ever been for boys, since 1880, and while [name]Avery[/name]'s nearly rabidly popular for the girls, that doesn’t mean parents of little boys are backing down, either.
I’ve come across maybe 3 little girls in the past year or two with the name [name]Avery[/name], but I’ve come across just as many men with the name, so I honestly don’t have qualms about using it for a future son. Then again, [name]Avery[/name]‘s a boys’ name in my family tree, so if I get the chance, I’d use it, regardless.
And I definitely agree–[name]Cuyler[/name] and [name]Avery[/name] are adorable together!
I like [name]Avery[/name], I’ve had a good (male) friend for years by that name. His only comment on his name I can recall is “I was nearly an [name]Angus[/name], so, uh, dodged a bullet there.”
I can’t say I’d USE it myself for either gender, but I think boy.
[name]Avery[/name] from [name]Charlotte[/name]'s [name]Web[/name] is WHY I like the name! hehe. I have overheard a little boy [name]Avery[/name] once at the zoo he was cute! I think [name]Avery[/name] is all boy!
I’ve never met a boy [name]Avery[/name], but I certainly wish there were more of them. I too think of the [name]Avery[/name] from [name]Charlotte[/name]'s [name]Web[/name], and it was my first acquaintance with the name as a whole, so naturally it’s all boy to me. To me, [name]Avery[/name] is much like the name [name]Alexis[/name]: more common for girls, but far from unheard of on boys. (incidentally, I quite like [name]Alexis[/name] on a boy.)
The only I know named [name]Avery[/name] is almost 16 years old now. Personally, I love the name on either boys or girls, but since [name]Avery[/name] is so popular for girls, your little [name]Avery[/name] may not enjoy sharing his name with so many girls.
My nephew is named [name]Avery[/name]. He’s only 15 months, so I can’t say what he thinks of his name, but most people seem to like it. I’ve never heard any negative comments about it.
There is a boy named [name]Avery[/name] at my daycare. I see it as all boy, for sure. I’m not to keen on boys names for girls, so this makes my heart sing!
Thanks everyone for the feedback! It is helpful to hear many still like [name]Avery[/name] for a boy(since it is a boys name:) ) and that it is still being used on a boy. We just really love it and I’ve never met or heard ,with the exception of the one lady yesterday, of any [name]Avery[/name]'s in my area, boy or girl, I’m sure there are some, so I feel it will be fine for us to use it. More experiences with boy Averys are welcome. I have worried some about what my son will think if he ever meets a girl [name]Avery[/name], but I am plan on telling him that his name is a boy name and that the girls have a boy name not him having a girl name. I think some people would not agree with that, but I don’t even consider it unisex. It is just a boy name used on girls in my opinion.
There’s an [name]Avery[/name] on the TV show Nashville. I think I like it better on a boy than a girl, actually. Maybe because I had a teacher I didn’t like named Ms. [name]Avery[/name] …
