Does anyone in your family share your name/have a similar one?

My aunt, grandma, and I share the mn [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], and my bro’s mn is [name_m]Eugene[/name_m] after my grandpa. (I may be wrong, but I think my other grandpa’s middle name is [name_m]Eugene[/name_m],too…)
My second cousin(?) has a young son named [name_m]Maddox[/name_m], which is my last name. We met them for the first time at our big Thanksgiving tonight, and my brother and I kept looking up when they said his name.

The most common name in my family is [name_f]Mathilda[/name_f]. It is the name of my paternal grandmother who has six children (my father and five daughters), and all of them have children with this name (my sister and five of my female cousins)

Two of my parents’ close friends have daughters named [name_f]Emily[/name_f], and my parents’ good friends have always been like aunts and uncles to me. I share my middle name with two cousins, although that’s a bit different because it’s a family name. There are three boys named [name_m]Jackson[/name_m] on my mom’s side of the family after our great-grandfather.

Ugh, yes. We have multiple boys named [name_m]Patrick[/name_m], [name_u]Michael[/name_u], [name_m]Thomas[/name_m], [name_m]Stephen[/name_m], and [name_m]Edward[/name_m] on my side of the family. My husband’s side of the family has multiple people named [name_m]Thomas[/name_m], [name_m]Edward[/name_m], [name_m]John[/name_m], and [name_m]Charles[/name_m] as well. It’s honestly getting ridiculous. I’m in the midst of teaching my husband that we can choose a first name that doesn’t already appear on the family tree, but it’s slow going.

My grandmother was [name_f]Rose[/name_f], I’m [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and my cousins daughter is [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. It works because they are all middle names. Also my grandmother passed away years ago and my cousin lives in NY.

My grandfather and uncle are both [name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_m]Philip[/name_m] Lastname–they’re either II and III or III and IV. My brother’s mn is also [name_m]Charles[/name_m].

Within my immediate family, my parents have rhyming names, my name rhymes with one of my brothers ([name_f]Gwen[/name_f] and [name_m]Ben[/name_m]) and my other brother and sister have the same initials.

And apparently we have a distant cousin with the exact same first and middle combo as my sister, [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f].

Also: two separate sets of second cousins (on opposite sides of the family) are named [name_m]Colin[/name_m] and [name_m]Brendan[/name_m]. Extra confusing because the Brendans are right around the same age. (When her cousin was pregnant with her second son, my mom told her “don’t name him [name_m]Colin[/name_m]!” and what did she do? Named him [name_m]Colin[/name_m].)

Well my grandfather’s name is Gustine “[name_u]Gus[/name_u]”, and my uncle was named after him. But that’s pretty common. However, there is an abundance of Johns in my family. I have two great-uncles named [name_m]John[/name_m], and my mom has two cousins named [name_m]John[/name_m]. It’s pretty confusing. One of them goes by [name_m]Johnny[/name_m] though, so that helps a little.

But this is weird. I’m the oldest of three girls. My little sisters are [name_f]Ava[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Dominica[/name_f]. My parents really love the name [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], I guess! People don’t believe us when we say that [name_f]Ava[/name_f]'s middle name is [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], because are sister is [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]!

I have 2 cousins named [name_m]Justin[/name_m], and 2 cousins named [name_u]Mason[/name_u], one on each side of my family, and oddly enough, the 2 Masons have the same birthday. I also have a cousin named [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f] on one side, and one named [name_f]Jenna[/name_f] on the other, and they both married a [name_u]Tony[/name_u].

There are four Prestons in my family, starting with my great-grandfather. There are also 3 [name_m]Evans[/name_m], the youngest of which is a girl. The first, another great-grandfather, was named after his aunt, [name_f]Evalina[/name_f].

There are a ton of Jrs. in both our families. My one Aunt and Uncle (who are [name_f]Patti[/name_f] & [name_m]Ronald[/name_m]) have [name_m]Ronald[/name_m] [name_m]Jr[/name_m], [name_f]Rhonda[/name_f], [name_u]Randy[/name_u] and [name_u]Rory[/name_u], and [name_u]Rory[/name_u] has a son [name_u]Rory[/name_u] [name_m]Jr[/name_m]. We also have [name_m]Paul[/name_m] & [name_m]Paul[/name_m] [name_m]Jr[/name_m] and my gpa was [name_m]Albert[/name_m] and he had a son named [name_m]Albert[/name_m] [name_m]Jr[/name_m]. In the same family is my dad [name_m]Carl[/name_m] and his sister [name_f]Carol[/name_f]. My dad is [name_m]Carl[/name_m], as I said, and I am [name_f]Carly[/name_f]. My mom is [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f] and I have a cousin named [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f] (related through marriage, was also my dad’s sister’s name who passed at age 2). On my mom’s side there was [name_m]Edward[/name_m] and [name_m]Edward[/name_m] [name_m]Jr[/name_m]. my sister is [name_f]Jessica[/name_f] and we have a cousin [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f], and I’m [name_f]Carly[/name_f] and we have a cousin [name_f]Kara[/name_f]. There is also a [name_f]Nicole[/name_f] and a [name_f]Nicolette[/name_f] and a [name_m]Jared[/name_m] and [name_m]Garrett[/name_m] (all cousins)

In my husband’s family there are three generations of Augusts. A [name_u]Michael[/name_u] & [name_u]Michael[/name_u] [name_m]Jr[/name_m]., a A [name_m]Jon[/name_m] and [name_m]Jon[/name_m] [name_m]Jr[/name_m]. (His sister is also married to a [name_m]John[/name_m]); two cousins named [name_f]Beverly[/name_f] from different generations; [name_f]Susan[/name_f] and [name_f]Suzanne[/name_f] (mother and daughter). [name_u]Gary[/name_u] and [name_u]Gary[/name_u] [name_m]Jr[/name_m]. [name_m]Edgar[/name_m] and [name_m]Edgar[/name_m] [name_m]Jr[/name_m]., [name_u]James[/name_u] and [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Jr[/name_m].

Lots of similar names!

My cousin married a woman with the same name as me. I have an uncle and cousin (father-son pairs) on each side named [name_m]Christopher[/name_m]. One of them is married to a [name_f]Christina[/name_f]. A cousin on each side named a son [name_u]Mason[/name_u].

My partner has an uncle and cousin named [name_m]Brian[/name_m], then his sister married a [name_m]Brian[/name_m] and, of course, they named their son [name_m]Brian[/name_m], too. His uncle married a woman who shared the name of that same sister. Also, my partner’s grandma’s first name was used as a middle for one of her daughters, who passed it on as a middle to her own daughter. In addition, the grandma has a niece and a great niece named after her.

The majority of male relatives are either named after their fathers if they’re the oldest or named their first son after themselves. Or both. My dad’s cousin’s first two kids have her and her husband’s names, all starting with D. They then had one more child with a completely different style of name. Our families are big believers in renaming. My partner (a junior) wants to name our first boy after himself. Too bad for him lol. Juniors are boring. No offense meant to those who like the tradition!

Hmm let me think. The closest someone gets to my name is my cousin [name_u]Teagan[/name_u]. My twin sister is [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] and my mom has a sister named [name_f]Deana[/name_f] but we don’t get them confused. However my dad’s cousin who has a daughter named [name_u]Ivory[/name_u] which is insanely similar to my sister [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]'s name (we had it first).

We have several people in my family with variations of [name_f]Helen[/name_f]. My name is a form of [name_f]Helen[/name_f], my cousin’s middle is [name_f]Ellen[/name_f]. My aunt was [name_f]Ellen[/name_f]. Her grandmother was [name_f]Helen[/name_f]. My brother is named after my grandfather (same first and middle). His middle is [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m], which is also my cousin’s name. His mother is named [name_u]Nikki[/name_u]. She was named after a grandfather [name_u]Nico[/name_u]. My cousin has my brother’s first name as his middle (since it was my grandfather’s name I assume). There were several Johns, Thomases, and Pauls in my family too. There are also two Charlies. There are several Katherines. My great grandmother was [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f], and so is my aunt. And so is her daughter (thankfully she goes by an unrelated nn). On my dad’s side, it seems everyone is named either [name_u]James[/name_u], [name_f]Mary[/name_f], or [name_f]Florence[/name_f]. There are also several Eliases.
The sharing of names is typical in Greek families. It can get quite confusing.
My cousin and I also just discussed that both of us will (hopefully) have daughters name [name_f]Zoe[/name_f]. Both of us love it. We called dibs on different spellings. I’m still hoping her naming style will change before we have children (she’s only 13).

My dad’s middle name is [name_u]Blaise[/name_u], which is how I got my first name. I also have a 9-year-old male cousin whose middle name is [name_u]Blaise[/name_u].

[name_m]Casimer[/name_m] is the big name in my family… it was my grandpa’s name, and it’s my uncle’s name, two of my cousins’ names (one who is the 9-year-old [name_m]Casimer[/name_m] [name_u]Blaise[/name_u]), and my brother’s middle name.

The closest my family comes is having a [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], [name_f]Megan[/name_f], and the newest addition is [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]. These were all unintentional though and none of them realize the name connection.

Actually, I almost forget, there’s also a line of males with almost the same name ([name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u], [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] Sr., [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] [name_m]Jr[/name_m]*) with a few others that I’ve found who may or may not be related. Honestly, this has made ancestry research a huge pain in the butt and it makes my family tree incredibly boring.

*Not the actual names

My husband’s family has a [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] and an [name_f]Annie[/name_f], about 4 years apart. My son is exactly one month older than his cousin, and they are [name_m]Matthias[/name_m] and [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] (although everyone but his parents calls [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] [name_u]Pat[/name_u]). Also, if they had been girls, we had chosen [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] and my sister had chosen [name_f]Alison[/name_f], which I think are related too.

Well I will just say my story. My fav best aunt ever married my uncle [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] and they were trying really hard for kids.My uncle [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] is Polish and my aunt [name_u]Andrea[/name_u] is Italian. They had twins and they named them [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] junior(there was three of fours generations of them) and then the girl [name_f]Zofia[/name_f], after my uncle [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] mom and my moms fav best aunt. She was dead and they wanted to honor her. Then Zofis mn is [name_f]Portia[/name_f] after her other grandma who lives with them.My uncle [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] died seven months ago on the twins second birtjday:( Such a sad story :frowning: So the twins both honor dead people.

My father and my brother share the same name but my brothers name is [name_m]John[/name_m]-[name_u]Michael[/name_u] and my dads is just plain [name_m]John[/name_m].

Oh and does middle name count?
My 2 cousins and my aunt have the middle name [name_u]Lynn[/name_u] due to my grandma.
My family’s theme is naming the baby after a relative in the family(most of them is middle names)
Like me, my middle name is [name_f]Erika[/name_f] after my aunt and so on.

Yes, I share a name with one of my relatives.

Also, a cousin of mine was going to be named a variation of my own name, but last minute her mom (my aunt) decided to change it. Two years later, when I was born, my mom copied her and just changed the spelling. And no she didn’t ask. Aunt never seemed upset though. LOL.

My given name is [name_f]Johnna[/name_f] although I go by [name_f]Nana[/name_f]. I’m named after my Granddad who was called [name_m]John[/name_m]. I have a cousin named [name_m]John[/name_m] too, also in namesake of my grandfather. [name_m]John[/name_m] was a family name and he was I think [name_m]John[/name_m] the 3rd.

My middle name is [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] after my Granny.
