Does anyone like the name Misty?

I know the general perception is that it’s “stripperish”, but I honestly love it. It’s my current obsession, and I don’t think it sounds stripperish at all. I think it sounds very pretty and almost mystical. But, I know it’s not very well received, especially on Nameberry. Am I alone in my love for this name?

I don’t think it sounds stripperish, either. I think it sounds very 1960’s/hippy. But that’s okay. If you love the name, use it. It would be so adorable on a little girl. I can’t find anything negative to say about it except that it is nms. I like the combination of sounds in it. I especially like the ‘s’ in the middle. I think S sounds in the middle of names are so interesting. It’s a popular sound at the beginning or end of a name. That makes [name]Misty[/name] a little unique, to me. You would be early in resurrecting it as a current, usable name, but it’s definitely doable.

I don’t know, I don’t really see it as stripperish. More dated, personally. [name]One[/name] of my college roommates was a [name]Mindy[/name] so that was my first thought–I jumped straight from [name]Misty[/name] to [name]Mindy[/name]. I like the idea behind it–it reminds me of nature and a light rain–but it seems too dated and, now that you mention it, stripperish, for me to really want to use. Maybe if you found a name that had the meaning of “mist” in it somewhere? I came across the names [name]Noe[/name] (“mist” or “misty rain” in Hawaiian), [name]Noelani[/name] (“heavenly mist” in Hawaiian), and Reviva (“dew, mist, rain” in Hebrew), which all seem fairly usable to me and I think you could easily use the nn [name]Misty[/name] for them, along with whatever other nns derived from the actual name, like [name]Vivi[/name]/[name]Viva[/name] for Reviva or [name]Noa[/name]/[name]Lani[/name]/[name]Elani[/name]/[name]Nanni[/name]/etc. for [name]Noelani[/name].

I actually like the idea of Reviva! I was pondering [name]Aviva[/name] for a little while but ultimately decided against putting it on my list, but Reviva could make a great middle name. Thanks!

It’s pretty in a very nature-y, guilty pleasure way for me. I don’t really think it’s useable in the way names like [name]Stormy[/name] and [name]Rain[/name] aren’t (in my personal opinion). Names have really strong associations for me, and I think of horses (a la [name]Misty[/name] of Chincoteague, VERY old book haha) and [name]Misty[/name] from Pokemon… but I’m a huge dork clearly.

I like it well enough. It’s my cousin’s name. It certainly doesn’t sound stripperish to me.

it’s not stripper-ish, but it does seem dated and lackluster. don’t like :frowning:

lexikj- I forgot about Misy of Chincoteague and from Pokemon… Wow. That takes me back to my childhood like no other! haha.

I really like [name]Misty[/name]! I totally get where you’re coming from, it makes me think of a seafoam fog in a mysterious forest or something, lol. No stripper connotations here

No. Very stripper-ish to me.

As a nn I think it is very cute for a little girl.

[name]Misty[/name] was the name of the first cat I had when I was little!

I am a lawyer and I work with two other lawyers (in their 30s) named [name]Misty[/name] and [name]Brandy[/name]. They are both great lawyers and very well respected, but they always joke that their names make them feel like the office strippers.

A few thoughts. [name]One[/name], Mist (no A at the end) might be cuter, and in the middle spot, and also more current, as I also see [name]Misty[/name] as 70s/hippy/dated. Two, what do you think about Mista, from Scandinavian mythology? Three, I also think of Pokemon. Four, I don’t think it is stripperish. Lastly, I could easily see it on a little girl, but not on an older adult woman, much less an old lady.

I like [name]Misty[/name] but not love it. I prefer it as a nickname.

one more thing, “Mist” means “crap” or “dung” in [name]German[/name] and it’s sometimes used as an exclamation, like “oh crap!”

i love that one suggestion of Reviva! that is amazing!!! misty sounds super dated and a little, sorry to offend, white trash…
like the one poster said they had a cat named that…it’s up there with sapphire…its just meh. you can do better, I think.

Doesn’t sound stripper to me… I thought of [name]Misty[/name] from Pokemon right away. I also know a few dogs named [name]Misty[/name], but that doesn’t bother me.

Unfortunately it sounds a bit like a nn to me… would be great if you could find a name you loved equally and nn [name]Misty[/name]. But I think it’s totally usable either way

I adore [name]Misty[/name]! I just used it for a character, actually, but she was rather mentally disturbed, so perhaps she’s not the best example of a [name]Misty[/name]. I don’t feel it’s a good stripper name though (haha), as it has a young and almost wistful vibe to it for me. I feel rather like a [name]Misty[/name], even though I resonate more with S names. It does remind me of my childhood too though, nature, the horse and Pokemon!

I only think of Pokemon, lol. But I’m a giant nerd, and used to be able to list all of the pokemon and their types…
