Probably over thinking this too much but we have finally settled on a name, [name_f]May[/name_f] [name_f]Maryanne[/name_f].
The back ground story is [name_f]May[/name_f] is a long time family name and my middle name I always wanted to use it for my daughter as a middle name too.
My mum who I love and adore has passed away and her name is [name_f]Maryanne[/name_f]. So in her honour I’d love to use her name too.
I’ve been researching the meaning of names and come to know [name_f]May[/name_f] is a derivative of [name_f]Mary[/name_f], most people wouldn’t know nor care but it’s just iggling me a bit. Does it really matter?
I think it flows ok as we have a very long surname I’d rather not use [name_f]May[/name_f] [name_f]Maryanne[/name_f] as 2 middle names.
This has great meaning and importance to you and will not hurt your child, so it seems fine to me. [name_f]May[/name_f] and [name_f]Maryanne[/name_f] do seem too close for me to choose it, but you have good reasons.
I think the fact that [name_f]May[/name_f] is a month as well solves the problem. [name_f]Maryanne[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f] flows a little better to me, though. You could also name her [name_f]Maryanne[/name_f] and just call her [name_f]May[/name_f], since it is a derivative of [name_f]Mary[/name_f]. Or just name her [name_f]May[/name_f] [name_f]Anne[/name_f]. I don’t think that there is a serious problem with [name_f]May[/name_f] [name_f]Maryanne[/name_f], however.
I didn’t make that association so I think it’s fine. [name_f]May[/name_f] [name_f]Maryanne[/name_f] would be a great name with a lot of sentimental pull behind it.
My sincere condolences to you. [name_f]May[/name_f] [name_f]Maryanne[/name_f] fine and I think you should use it. It is very meaningful which trumps flow [name_f]IMO[/name_f]. [name_f]May[/name_f] with a longer last name is perfect and after the birth announcement the first and middle names are seldom used so choose the name that is important to you.
I think this would be an issue if it were another form of [name_f]Mary[/name_f] - [name_f]Molly[/name_f] [name_f]Maryanne[/name_f], for example - but since [name_f]May[/name_f] is a very multi-faceted name that can also be considered a flower name (it’s another name for hawthorn), a month name, and a derivative of [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], I don’t think it’s a problem at all.
It’s a very meaningful name for you, which is what matters. Good luck!
The sentiment makes it the perfect name, and your daughter will be lucky to have such a meaningful story. It also flows very well. I’m also imagining M&M as a cute nickname. Good luck!
I am always on team honor names over flow of name. It does bother me a little bit, and I would prefer [name_f]May[/name_f] as a nn for [name_f]Maryanne[/name_f] personally, then have another middle name, but the sentiment is beautiful so that means more.
I don’t think it’s a problem, particularly since you have such lovely reasons to use both names. Good luck, congratulations and I’m sorry about your mother.
I wouldn’t have made the connection between [name_f]May[/name_f] being a diminutive of [name_f]Mary[/name_f], I’m more used to it as a full name or diminutive of [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]. The [name_f]Mary[/name_f] part of [name_f]Maryanne[/name_f] looking so similar to [name_f]May[/name_f] visually bothers me a bit though. [name_f]May[/name_f] [name_f]Marianne[/name_f] would be lovely, if you’re open to changing the spelling. (and making it even more Sense and Sensibility- I saw a production of it where [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] was often referred to as [name_f]May[/name_f], hence why that’s a strong connection to me than the [name_f]Mary[/name_f] one)
I like the PP’s suggestion of [name_f]Maryanne[/name_f] as a first name and calling her [name_f]May[/name_f], that’s what I’d do personally.
