[name_m]Hi[/name_m]! I was born in 1990 so of course, my name is [name_f]Brittany[/name_f]–Sigh lol. In my parents’ defense, my grandfather was from the region of “[name_f]Brittany[/name_f]”
…but still
I’m moving to [name_m]New[/name_m] [name_m]York[/name_m] on [name_f]Monday[/name_f] and I want to take a more “adult” name with me. I am not legally changing my name so I don’t want to go by something totally unrelated visually and verbally (unrelated origin is fine) but more like a nickname that also works as first professionally.
My family calls me [name_f]Bri[/name_f] ([name_f]Brie[/name_f]) but it’s very nickname-ish so when I tell people, “I’m [name_f]Bri[/name_f]” they say, “Is it short for [name_f]Briana[/name_f]?” and I don’t want that. I’ve been thinking about using [name_u]Bryn[/name_u], all the letters are in my name so I guess it works visually at least and I do like the name.
I know it’s a stretch but anything other than [name_f]Bri[/name_f]/[name_u]Brit[/name_u] is a stretch so I don’t mind reaching. What do you all think? Any other ideas?
I prefer [name_f]Brynn[/name_f] but it certainly works. Honestly I can’t think of anything else lol but I think [name_f]Brynn[/name_f]'s as good as it gets anyway. Especially for [name_m]New[/name_m] [name_m]York[/name_m] (City?) It’s quick and to the point and it is a stand alone name.
[name_u]Bryn[/name_u] does work for [name_f]Brittany[/name_f], definitely. For me though, I don’t thing [name_u]Bryn[/name_u]'s any better than [name_f]Brittany[/name_f] in trendiness nor does it sound very ‘adult’ as you wish it to be - in fact, it sounds less mature than [name_f]Brittany[/name_f] to me.
I would think [name_f]Bea[/name_f] (‘B’), [name_f]Brita[/name_f] ([name_f]BREE[/name_f]-tuh) or [name_u]Bay[/name_u] would be nice nicknames that give of a more professional and mature-like vibe.
[name_u]Ever[/name_u] watched the show, Community? [name_f]Britta[/name_f] would work as a nn. There’s also [name_f]Brita[/name_f] water filters but if you don’t mind that association… [name_f]Brynn[/name_f] is a stretch but it works too
[name_f]Annie[/name_f]/[name_f]Anny[/name_f]? Or even [name_f]Anna[/name_f]. I do think [name_u]Bryn[/name_u] sounds more polished than [name_f]Brittany[/name_f] though.
I prefer a pp suggestion of [name_f]Bea[/name_f] or [name_u]Bay[/name_u]/[name_f]Bae[/name_f]. [name_f]Brynn[/name_f] feels just as dated as [name_f]Brittany[/name_f] to me.
I think [name_f]Britta[/name_f] sounds sophisticated and elegant. I’m really not much of a fan of [name_f]Brynn[/name_f] personally and it’s also not as intuitive as [name_f]Britta[/name_f]. But if you really love it, it could work. I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Bea[/name_f]… It’s also not totally intuitive but no less than [name_f]Brynn[/name_f] and it’s much more beautiful [name_f]IMO[/name_f]. I like [name_f]Brianna[/name_f] too and [name_f]Brie[/name_f].
I love [name_f]Britta[/name_f]! I think it’s uncommon but still really accessible, as well as a very intuitive nickname for [name_f]Brittany[/name_f]. [name_u]Bryn[/name_u] or [name_f]Bea[/name_f] could also work well, and perhaps even [name_f]Briony[/name_f] / [name_f]Bryony[/name_f]? Good luck
Out of all of them, [name_f]Bea[/name_f] sounds the most professional and mature. I’d spell it [name_f]Bee[/name_f], though, just because I have a tendency to pronounce [name_f]Bea[/name_f] as Be-uh. There’s also that association (with the first spelling) to [name_f]Bea[/name_f] [name_m]McArthur[/name_m], an actress on the [name_u]Golden[/name_u] Girls. She gave of a sophisticated vibe.
I’ve just personally never been a fan of [name_f]Bri[/name_f]'s, [name_f]Brynn[/name_f]'s, or [name_u]Brit[/name_u]/[name_f]Britta[/name_f]'s. They sound flimsy and flaky, sorry.
As another stretch nickname, you could go for [name_f]Tawny[/name_f] ([name_u]Brit[/name_u]-TANNAY). It works. Or [name_f]Anna[/name_f], as another poster suggested.
