Not just to [name_u]Berry[/name_u] ears, but to the rest of the world? Does the plethora of Olivias make [name_f]Liv[/name_f] sound like just a nickname? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think many of the Olivias are going by [name_f]Liv[/name_f] anyway?
I love the name. Short and spunky is just my style. While I’m not overly concerned about popularity, I would draw the line at the megapopular names like [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], so I’m wondering if [name_f]Liv[/name_f] is still usable for me.
In Norway [name_f]Liv[/name_f] is beginning to come back and it’s not just limited to aunts and grandmothers anymore. While I don’t know what’s going on in the US, here it’s always stood on its own and never been a nn for [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]. And, also, if you didn’t already know “liv” is the Norwegian word for “life”. So that’s a plus, rights?
I don’t know anyone or haven’t heard of anyone using [name_f]Liv[/name_f] as a stand alone name. I do know an [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] who goes by [name_f]Liv[/name_f].
I personally wouldn’t use [name_f]Liv[/name_f] because I would worry people would assume her name is [name_f]Olivia[/name_f].You are right, with the popularity of [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], [name_f]Liv[/name_f] is going to be lost and confused.
In the US, [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] has gotten so incredibly popular that I think a [name_f]Liv[/name_f] would have to correct people that she’s not an [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]. If [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] is unpopular where you are, I think it could work. With [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]'s popularity, I think it might be like a [name_f]Liz[/name_f] but not [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] situation.
[name_f]Love[/name_f] just [name_f]Liv[/name_f]! I’ve heard that it’s both a Scandinavian name meaning “life” and a variation of [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] (from [name_f]Elizaveta[/name_f], I think?). Either way, I love it, and I wouldn’t bat an eye at a little [name_f]Liv[/name_f]–with [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]'s popularity, I would expect her to be [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], but I would be very excited to find out she was just [name_f]Liv[/name_f]. Anyhow, I think it’s lovely. As with all unusual names, you might have to explain it, but I think people would really be excited about it if they understood the name. I love it.
I agree, I think the actress has done a lot to familiarize people with [name_f]Liv[/name_f] as a stand-alone name. I love it. I wanted to use it for our daughter, but since her full name actually would have been [name_f]Liv[/name_f] [name_u]Tyler[/name_u] (!) we went with [name_f]Eve[/name_f] instead.
