Does Lucy work in a sibset that includes a no-nickname Katharine?

So this has been bugging me for a bit. [name]Lucy[/name] is a top contender if we have a future girl and we’re not interesed in any of the longer forms of the name. My kids are [name]Paul[/name], [name]Clare[/name], [name]Mark[/name], [name]Katharine[/name], and [name]James[/name]. Neither [name]Katharine[/name] nor [name]James[/name] use a nickname. I can see [name]Lucy[/name] working with most of my kids names and I think it would have worked fine with [name]Katharine[/name] if we had stuck with calling her [name]Kate[/name] as planned. However, in so many of her little activities there were Katies and Kates galore so we switched to [name]Katharine[/name] and she loves it and it suits her well. But is [name]Katharine[/name] too formal next to [name]Lucy[/name]? Or does it not matter at all?

It wouldn’t matter to me! The style is very similar.

I doesn’t sound out of place, they’re both classic names so I can’t see why not. I know a girl called [name]Catherine[/name] [name]Lucy[/name], and it sounds lovely to me!

I think [name]Lucy[/name] does sound somewhat out of place in this sibset.

I think [name]Lucia[/name] or [name]Luciana[/name] might fit better, then you can use the nickname [name]Lucy[/name]… but it’s not the worst sibset in the world.

I think it goes great! [name]Clare[/name] is kind of between [name]Lucy[/name] and [name]Katherine[/name]; ties them together

It sounds a bit odd with the others. It’s cutesy while the others are serious

I completly agree.

I think it works fine, it might have the cutesy -ee ending like a lot of the popular/trendy names do but it’s also a classic which works well in your sibset. And [name]Katharine[/name] might choose a nickname for herself by her teenage years anyway.

I don’t think it sounds out of place, all are classic “core” names, so to speak. I think [name]Lucy[/name] sounds great with your other kids names. Though I am a little bit biased because [name]Lucy[/name] is my favourite name!

I think that [name]Lucy[/name] and [name]Katharine[/name] go very well together. They’re both classic names, so even though [name]Katharine[/name] is longer neither name strikes me as seeming out of place next to the other.

Also, I love the [name]Katharine[/name] spelling! I’m really glad to see it.

[name]Lucy[/name] would be fine!! As nono said, they are both classics, so it wouldn’t matter.

Thanks so much for all the responses. It’s great to hear that most of you think it is workable. It’s dh’s top pick and in my top 3 along with [name]Theresa[/name] and [name]Grace[/name]. When I start thinking that maybe it’s the best choice I always have a nagging doubt about how it stacks up to [name]Katharine[/name]. Great to hear that most people think it would work.
