I like the “wen” names and would consider this one if not for this. Is it immediately obvious? No. But teenagers will figure this out. I love the alternative Maiwenn.

As soon as I read the name I thought it sounded like a mix between two drugs.

For me it sounds like drug (i.e. medicine) called Marevan (warfarin), used for preventing blood clots.

It sounds more like a mermaid to me, actually. A cross between [name_f]Bronwen[/name_f] and a mermaid, if that makes sense.

It sounds like something you’d take get a good night sleep, make your eyelashes grow longer, or take care of gastrointestinal problems. I can see a commercial with seagull flying over an attractive middle aged woman on a beach looking out thoughtfully to the water with a voice over “Is lack of sleep, diminished eyelashes, gastrointestinal problems keeping you from where you need to be”. The seagull swoops over a beautiful oceanscape. “Merewen has been shown to improve sleep, eye lash production, gastrointestinal problems. If your suffering talk to you doctor today about Merewen”. Now the attractive middle aged lady is on a sail boat, with a an attractive middle aged man having the time of their life. All thanks to Merewen.

At least that is what I think of when I hear the name. :slight_smile:

I think Merewin is very pretty. Maerwynn was a saint’s name and is the Old English spelling of Merewen. The name sounds like a medieval princess or a Tolkien heroine to me. I guess my mind isn’t on drugs or medicine but saints and fairy tales. :slight_smile:

Does it rhyme with heroin? That’s what I reminded me of.

I thought Merewen sounded like a medieval princess or Tolkien heroine as well, but I’ve asked several people and they all thought Merewen sounded like a drug. :confused: I can’t not hear the similarity to heroin now. I guess this one is off my list of name crushes.
