Does Mila sound funny on a Caucasian child?

I love [name]Mila[/name], but worry it’s more appropriate for a hispanic/italian/etc. girl. What do you think?

I don’t think so. I had a white friend in grade school with that name.

No, I think most names work on any child. [name]Mila[/name] is lovely.

[name]IMO[/name], Western hemisphere names that are classics or popular in their countries of origin usually work well on people that aren’t from the same ethnic group. This probably has to do with the fact that most languages of Europe and the Americas use the [name]Roman[/name] alphabet (or some variation of) and can be traced back to Latin and/or Greek. While some names ‘feel’ Irish or Latino ([name]Roisin[/name] or [name]Marisol[/name], for example), many of the more mainstream choices (such as [name]Aiden[/name] and [name]Isabella[/name]) are common on children of all ethnic backgrounds.

I will also point out that [name]Mila[/name] is neither Spanish nor Italian. It’s a very common Eastern European (Croatian, Serbian, Bulgarian, Macedonian, etc.) diminutive of many names containing ‘mil’, which means gracious or dear. [name]Mila[/name] Kunis has attached a slightly exotic image to the name, however, with the name’s popularity I doubt anyone will really carry that idea in the next few years.

Its really popular in Australia and not all of those would be Serbian, Croatian and Macedonian immigrants (spain isn’t even one of our top 40 countries for migrants). Its not Italian or Hispanic so it works for anyone. If it was something like [name]Jelena[/name] I would say no though but like [name]Ana[/name] it seems universal

Not at all, I know a little [name]New[/name] Zealand [name]Mila[/name]. I think it’s a lovely name

I think its beautiful. Short and sweet but slightly exotic. I love it.

Not at all. [name]Milla[/name] Jovovich anyone? I don’t see it as Hispanic or even Italian in the least (and I am half Italian). I think it’s the kind of name that works on any girl

Not even a little bit! Reminds me of [name]Mila[/name] Kunis, she’s caucasian.

I worry that it’s a bit too Russian/Eastern European, but I love it so much and plus [name]Mila[/name] Kunis has made it more familiar (even though she is Ukrainian).

Not at all. The [name]Mila[/name] I know is of French heritage. I think it works well on any child!

[name]Just[/name] wanted to add…
…that in Croatia and Serbia [name]Mila[/name] is word name. [name]Mila[/name], as word, means lovely, dear, gentle, gracious. [name]Milena[/name], [name]Milana[/name], [name]Milan[/name], Milovan, etc. are names derived from word mila. For boys ([name]Milan[/name] and Milovan) potential nicknames are [name]Milo[/name] or Mile (meelay), and for girls ([name]Milena[/name] and [name]Milana[/name]) potential nn are [name]Mila[/name] [name]Milica[/name], [name]Milka[/name], etc. So, [name]Mila[/name] is actually a word name.

I am not sure about other countries, but this is true for Croatian and Serbian language.

Nope. It would work.
