Does naming a girl Freddie, rule out any really feminine names for future daughters?

I tend to lean towards super girly, frilly vintage names with cute nicknames for girls . However, I’ve fallen for [name_u]Freddie[/name_u] as a nickname for [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] ([name_f]Winnie[/name_f] is also a favourite of mine but will probably be used as more of a pet name). I adore the juxtaposition of the vintage and feminine [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] and the modernity and traditional masculinity of [name_u]Freddie[/name_u]. [name_m]Just[/name_m] imagine a little girl with curly hair and floral dresses called [name_u]Freddie[/name_u], is that not adorable!

Anyway, even if you don’t agree with me on that. I have one question. [name_m]Will[/name_m] calling a daughter [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] (nn [name_u]Freddie[/name_u]) rule out any super feminine names for future girls? Would we need to go down a less feminine route for them too? Not necessarily another unisex name but at least something with a few less frills than my usual choices.

Some potential names for future daughters:
[name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] nn [name_f]Dotty[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] nn [name_f]Gwennie[/name_f]
[name_f]Edith[/name_f] nn [name_f]Edie[/name_f]
[name_u]Juniper[/name_u] nn [name_f]Junie[/name_f]
[name_f]Bethany[/name_f] nn [name_f]Betsy[/name_f]
[name_f]Isadora[/name_f] nn [name_f]Ida[/name_f]

I don’t think using the nickname [name_u]Freddie[/name_u] rules out any other feminine nicknames. The other potential names on your list also seem to go really well with [name_f]Winifred[/name_f]! I really love [name_f]Winifred[/name_f], [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f], and [name_f]Isadora[/name_f] together!

[name_f]Winifred[/name_f]/[name_u]Freddie[/name_u] is so sweet. It doesn’t rule out other names in my opinion. I like [name_f]Edith[/name_f] and [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] on your list as well. Goes well with [name_f]Winifred[/name_f]…

I’d say it definitely doesn’t, especially as her full name would be [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] anyway, which goes really well with lots of frillier girls’ names. But I think even [name_u]Freddie[/name_u] in full would work with other more feminine sounding names. Also your imagery of [name_u]Freddie[/name_u] is exactly how I imagine [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] ;).

I don’t think it rules out non-boyish names for future sisters, though there are some very cute ones to consider, my favorites being:

[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] nn [name_u]Charlie[/name_u]
[name_f]Frances[/name_f] nn [name_u]Frankie[/name_u]
[name_f]Georgia[/name_f] or [name_f]Georgina[/name_f] nn [name_u]Georgie[/name_u]

From your list, I think [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] goes very well with [name_f]Edith[/name_f] and [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f]:

[name_u]Freddie[/name_u] and [name_f]Edie[/name_f]
[name_u]Freddie[/name_u] and [name_f]Dottie[/name_f]

Some cool names there!

[name_f]Every[/name_f] name on your list is lovely. [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] ([name_f]Dottie[/name_f]) and [name_f]Edith[/name_f] ([name_f]Edie[/name_f]) are both on our lists as well. I love [name_u]Freddie[/name_u] for [name_f]Winifred[/name_f]. So cute.

I love [name_u]Freddie[/name_u] as a nickname for [name_f]Winifred[/name_f]. It reminds me of the character from the old sitcom A Different World.

I don’t think it rules out really feminine names. [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] is quite feminine and I would personally match any future daughters’ names to that and not the nickname. I also feel like [name_u]Freddie[/name_u] for a girl has a different vibe than a lot of other “male” names on girls so I don’t think it would sound odd next to a sister who goes by [name_f]Betsy[/name_f] or [name_f]Ida[/name_f].

I don’t think it is an outlier at all! Fits perfectly with your style and the other fn/nn you mention. I think sisters named [name_u]Freddie[/name_u] and [name_f]Dotty[/name_f] or [name_u]Freddie[/name_u] and [name_f]Junie[/name_f] are very sweet!

Not at all. [name_u]Freddie[/name_u] is an awesome nickname for [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] (agree that it gives me the same vibe as [name_u]Frankie[/name_u], but feels more unexpected) and I think both the full and shortened versions go beautifully with every name on your list. I especially love [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] and [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] - [name_u]Freddie[/name_u] and [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] or even [name_u]Freddie[/name_u] and [name_u]Theo[/name_u] maybe? Now is THAT not adorable?!

I don’t think so.

Thank you so much for all you’re comments! You’ve made me very happy this morning. It seems pretty unanimous that everyone is on board with [name_u]Freddie[/name_u] and my other names.

I’m glad quite a few of you mentioned [name_f]Edie[/name_f] as I was also concerned that [name_f]Edie[/name_f] and [name_u]Freddie[/name_u] were a little too close in sound.

Definitely not! The names you’ve posted all go really well together, including with [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] ‘[name_u]Freddie[/name_u].’ I love names with juxtaposition too - [name_f]Veronica[/name_f] ‘[name_u]Ronnie[/name_u],’ [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] ‘[name_u]Rory[/name_u],’ or even the common [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] ‘[name_u]Charlie[/name_u].’

Definitely no, especcially since [name_u]Freddie[/name_u]'s full name will be [name_f]Winifred[/name_f].

From your list, I love [name_f]Edith[/name_f] and [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] with [name_f]Winifred[/name_f].

Other suggestions (sorry for any repeats), [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] ‘[name_u]Freddie[/name_u]’ &

[name_f]Mabel[/name_f] ‘[name_u]Billie[/name_u]’
[name_f]Willa[/name_f] ‘[name_u]Billie[/name_u]’
[name_f]Georgiana[/name_f] ‘[name_u]Georgie[/name_u]’
[name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] ‘[name_f]Lula[/name_f]/[name_f]Lulu[/name_f]’
[name_f]Tabitha[/name_f] ‘[name_f]Tabby[/name_f]/[name_f]Bee[/name_f]’
[name_f]Elodie[/name_f] ‘[name_f]Edie[/name_f]’
[name_f]India[/name_f] ‘[name_f]Indie[/name_f]’

My name is [name_f]Federica[/name_f] with the nn [name_u]Freddie[/name_u], and my sister is named [name_f]Aurora[/name_f], so I don’t really think it rules out feminine names!

Thank you for all your suggestions. I really appreciate them so keep them coming!

This is what I think about the names you’ve suggested so far…

[name_f]Tabitha[/name_f] ([name_f]Tabby[/name_f]/[name_f]Bee[/name_f]) - I really love [name_f]Tabitha[/name_f] nn [name_f]Tabby[/name_f] and actually if it wasn’t for our surname, it would be a real contender. Unfortunately, our surname begins with a T and just makes [name_f]Tabitha[/name_f] (and even more so with [name_f]Tabby[/name_f]) a great mouthful and when said fast, it sounds like [name_u]Daffy[/name_u] Duck! I do like [name_f]Bee[/name_f] and that would eliminate some of the issue but out neice is called [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] and occassionally goes by [name_f]Bea[/name_f].

[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] ([name_u]Charlie[/name_u]) - I quite like [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] but I’m not a fan of [name_u]Charlie[/name_u], never have been. I do however love [name_f]Lottie[/name_f]. [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] is a little too close to my name for me to use it though.

[name_f]Frances[/name_f] ([name_u]Frankie[/name_u]) - For me, [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] is kind of the opposite to [name_u]Freddie[/name_u] as I know so many girls named [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] who go by [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] but have never met a boy called [name_u]Frankie[/name_u]. I actually love it on a boy as a nickname for [name_u]Francis[/name_u], [name_m]Franklin[/name_m] or simply [name_m]Frank[/name_m], but probably wouldn’t use it as a boy.

[name_f]Georgia[/name_f]/[name_f]Georgina[/name_f]/[name_f]Georgiana[/name_f] ([name_u]Georgie[/name_u]) - While I like these names, I don’t love them for some reason. I also know a [name_f]Georgina[/name_f] who goes by [name_u]Georgie[/name_u] and she’s definitely too close to us for us to use the name.

[name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] ([name_u]Theo[/name_u]) - I love this suggesting of using [name_u]Theo[/name_u] as a nickname for [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f]! I’m not sure if I’d be brave enough as it just seems to be on the next level of boyishness to [name_u]Freddie[/name_u] but i love the way you’re thinking. I also like [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] as a nickname for [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f]/[name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] but that’s definitely too close to [name_u]Freddie[/name_u]!

[name_f]Veronica[/name_f] ([name_u]Ronnie[/name_u]) - I know a girl called [name_f]Veronica[/name_f] who goes by [name_u]Ronnie[/name_u], so that automatically rules this out for me! I’m also not sure about [name_f]Veronica[/name_f], while I like [name_u]Ronnie[/name_u], [name_f]Veronica[/name_f] just sounds a bit hard to me, I think it might be the combination of the V and hard C sounds.

[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] ([name_u]Rory[/name_u]) - I love [name_u]Rory[/name_u] for a girl! She’d definitely make a great sister for [name_u]Freddie[/name_u]. I’m not certain how I feel about [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] though, I do quite like it but then it also seems a little too ‘fairy princess’ for me. I’d love to hear other suggestions for full names for [name_u]Rory[/name_u], I know there’s [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] (thank you [name_m]Gilmore[/name_m] Girls) which I’d be more tempted by then [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] but again, not loving it.

[name_f]Mabel[/name_f] ([name_u]Billie[/name_u]) - I adore [name_f]Mabel[/name_f]! I think it’s so sweet. I’m not particularly a fan of [name_u]Billie[/name_u] though.

[name_f]Willia[/name_f] ([name_u]Billie[/name_u]) - Same again for [name_u]Billie[/name_u] and this time, I’m not a fan of [name_f]Willa[/name_f] (or [name_f]Willow[/name_f], or [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] or [name_m]William[/name_m] or [name_m]Wilhelm[/name_m], I clearly just don’t like ‘[name_m]Will[/name_m]’ names!) either!

[name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] ([name_f]Lula[/name_f]/[name_f]Lulu[/name_f]) - [name_f]Lulu[/name_f] is a little too sweet for me but I love [name_f]Lula[/name_f]. I like [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] but one issue, DH hates it!

[name_f]Elodie[/name_f] ([name_f]Edie[/name_f]) - I lvoe any name that gives way to the nickname [name_f]Edie[/name_f]. [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] is definitely one of those names that always sneaks back into my favourites.

[name_f]India[/name_f] ([name_f]Indie[/name_f]) - I do really like [name_f]Indie[/name_f] and I quite like [name_f]India[/name_f], I also like [name_u]Indiana[/name_u], however, when I really think about it, I think I prefer [name_f]Indie[/name_f] on a boy.

No, I really don’t think you’d have to rule out any of the other names on your list, especially if [name_u]Freddie[/name_u] is a nickname not a full name. And can I just say that [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] nn [name_u]Freddie[/name_u] is so fabulous, I adore it!

I love it! I like many of the above suggestions but I don’t think you even need to be locked into boyish nicknames. [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] nn [name_u]Freddie[/name_u] and sibling [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] would be great together
