Does new baby's name need to match first child?

I am currently expecting my second child, and always having loved names and etymology, I’m full of ideas. My biggest concern about naming this baby is that big sister’s name is [name_u]Casey[/name_u] [name_f]Dawn[/name_f]. I deeply adore and love my little girl, and the name [name_u]Casey[/name_u], with all its bounce and joyful vigor, fits her. But I do not and never have loved it. I was in an abusive marriage at the time and didn’t have a say in the name. I’m concerned about giving this second child a name I love–in the style I like, and have it sound “wrong”. (Disclaimer:I’m aware im full of pregnancy hormones and probably being crazy). I’m also just having a hard time choosing! These are the names I’m thinking of.

[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] (to match with my first daughters middle dawn?)

Any thoughts suggestions and ideas welcome!

I personally don’t care about siblings names matching, although many people on nameberry do I think. So, I think so with what you love.

Suggestions from your list (which I love most of the names on it):

Boys:
[name_u]River[/name_u] [name_m]William[/name_m] ([name_u]River[/name_u] is my #1 boy’s name)
[name_u]River[/name_u] [name_u]Micah[/name_u]
[name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_m]Richard[/name_m]
[name_u]Robin[/name_u] [name_u]Howard[/name_u]
[name_u]Jules[/name_u] [name_m]Richard[/name_m]

Girls:
[name_f]Freya[/name_f] [name_u]Grey[/name_u] ([name_f]Freya[/name_f] is one of my favorite names, I especially love the meaning)
[name_f]Freya[/name_f] [name_f]Elena[/name_f]
[name_f]Freya[/name_f] [name_f]Delphine[/name_f]
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] [name_f]Elena[/name_f]
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] [name_f]Aurora[/name_f]
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]
[name_f]Georgiana[/name_f] [name_u]Grey[/name_u]
[name_f]Sparrow[/name_f] [name_f]Elena[/name_f]

I’m one of those people who like siblings to sound like they were named by the same parents. I do like siblings to have names that are complementary and cohesive. However, given your situation, it sounds like you’ll be choosing something YOU love this time around. My advice is: choose the name you love the most. I don’t see any jarring style mismatches with your boys names. All of them would be fine with [name_u]Casey[/name_u]. My favourite is [name_u]Jude[/name_u] but [name_m]Holden[/name_m] would be a good “fit” too. Some of your girls names are very different in style to [name_u]Casey[/name_u]. One that isn’t too bad at all is [name_u]Linden[/name_u]. [name_u]Casey[/name_u] and [name_u]Linden[/name_u] sound very good together. If you want to use the more vintage names on your list, I think they would be quite nice in the middle spot (eg. [name_u]Linden[/name_u] [name_f]Georgiana[/name_f], [name_u]Linden[/name_u] [name_f]Agatha[/name_f]). Good luck to you!

Honestly, as long as you treat them both with equal love and respect, it will never matter if their names match!

I know a sibset of [name_u]Casey[/name_u] and [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], which doesn’t match in my opinion, but still works!

[name_u]Casey[/name_u] [name_f]Dawn[/name_f] &

[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] [name_u]Story[/name_u] ([name_u]Casey[/name_u] and [name_f]Evie[/name_f]!)
[name_f]Elena[/name_f] [name_f]Sparrow[/name_f]
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f]-[name_f]Jane[/name_f] (No need for a middle)
Luthien [name_f]Aurora[/name_f]
[name_u]Linden[/name_u] [name_u]Grey[/name_u]

or

[name_u]River[/name_u] [name_m]William[/name_m]
[name_m]William[/name_m] [name_u]North[/name_u] ([name_m]Liam[/name_m] and [name_u]Casey[/name_u] would be adorable)
[name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_u]Micah[/name_u]

(I know I moved some middles to firsts and vice versa…)

Sibling names don’t have to match except if it bothers you that they don’t. I love [name_f]Dawn[/name_f] as a middle name, maybe you could look for another one syllable (doesn’t have to be one) nature middle name such as:
GIRLS:
[name_f]Lark[/name_f], [name_u]Lake[/name_u], [name_f]Snow[/name_f], [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_m]Cove[/name_m], [name_u]Wren[/name_u], [name_u]Dove[/name_u], [name_f]Lune[/name_f]
BOYS:
[name_u]North[/name_u], Shore, [name_u]Oak[/name_u], [name_u]Frost[/name_u], [name_u]Bay[/name_u], [name_m]Fox[/name_m], [name_u]Ash[/name_u], [name_m]Wolf[/name_m]

You could try to match [name_u]Casey[/name_u] by:

Origin (Irish):
[name_u]Ainslie[/name_u], [name_f]Maeve[/name_f], [name_f]Sinead[/name_f], [name_f]Erin[/name_f], [name_f]Briana[/name_f], [name_f]Keira[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f]
[name_m]Declan[/name_m], [name_u]Finn[/name_u], [name_u]Grady[/name_u], [name_m]Sean[/name_m], [name_u]Ryan[/name_u], [name_m]Nolan[/name_m]

Syllables and Letters (2 +y)
[name_f]Freya[/name_f], [name_u]Story[/name_u], [name_f]Tuesday[/name_f], [name_u]Lyric[/name_u]
[name_u]Marley[/name_u], [name_m]Byron[/name_m], [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u], [name_m]Grayson[/name_m], [name_u]River[/name_u] (just because it’s cool)

Meaning (brave, battle)
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f], [name_f]Rita[/name_f]
[name_m]Thorin[/name_m], [name_m]Wyatt[/name_m], [name_u]Everett[/name_u]

My favourites are:
[name_u]Casey[/name_u] [name_f]Dawn[/name_f] & [name_f]Freya[/name_f] [name_f]Lune[/name_f]
[name_u]Casey[/name_u] [name_f]Dawn[/name_f] & [name_u]Lyric[/name_u] [name_u]Dove[/name_u]
[name_u]Casey[/name_u] [name_f]Dawn[/name_f] & [name_m]Wyatt[/name_m] [name_u]Frost[/name_u]
[name_u]Casey[/name_u] [name_f]Dawn[/name_f] & [name_u]Everett[/name_u] [name_u]North[/name_u]
[name_u]Casey[/name_u] [name_f]Dawn[/name_f] & [name_u]River[/name_u] [name_u]Jude[/name_u]

I vote that you use something that just doesn’t seem really out-of-balance next to [name_u]Casey[/name_u], if that makes sense. From your list, I think [name_f]Freya[/name_f] and [name_u]Linden[/name_u] fit best for girls - although [name_f]Freya[/name_f] isn’t unisex, I feel (subjectively of course) that it has a similar “bounce and joygul vigor” as [name_u]Casey[/name_u], and [name_u]Linden[/name_u] feels calmer but it’s still on the shorter side and I can see them working together. [name_f]Georgiana[/name_f], [name_f]Agatha[/name_f] and [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] all feel really heavy and super feminine next to [name_u]Casey[/name_u] [name_f]IMO[/name_f] - I’d put them in the middle name spot if you’re concerned about the sisters’ names together.

Also, if it’s a boy, I think it’s less important that the names coordinate - lots of people have different styles for girl names and for boy names. That said, I really like [name_u]River[/name_u], [name_u]Robin[/name_u] and [name_m]Holden[/name_m] with [name_u]Casey[/name_u]! And if you like [name_m]Julian[/name_m], you could use either [name_u]Jules[/name_u] or [name_u]Jude[/name_u] as a nickname.
