Does popular always mean trendy???

I am desperate to find the perfect name for my daughter. I want a name that is timeless and classic, one that will age well. I have a few names that I really love, but I am so afraid of a name that could be considered trendy. I [name]LOVE[/name] the name [name]Charlotte[/name], but fear it’s growing in popularity. I read a blog on here about this very subject. [name]Elizabeth[/name] which I think is a quintessential classic is number 11, and I would never call it trendy. Aside from [name]Charlotte[/name] I love [name]Amelia[/name] and [name]Juliana[/name]. Any thoughts on my little list or this subject would be so appreciated. Thanks in advance!

If a name has a spike in popularity from obscurity than I’d say trendy, if it’s steadily but never overwhelmingly popular it’s classic.

Absolutely not. I think there are degrees of trends, even with classic names, but that doesn’t make a name not classic. Mykynli isn’t popular, but it is extremely trendy. [name]William[/name] is very popular, but I wouldn’t consider it trendy. Names go through cycles of popularity- they have more popular moments, then go down in popularity, then back up. I’d still consider these names classic. [name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Amelia[/name] have recently experienced a resurgence of popularity. [name]Amelia[/name] is more popular than it has ever been, and [name]Charlotte[/name] is more popular than it’s been in over 50 years. This doesn’t make them trendy. [name]Both[/name] have ranked in the top 500 every year since records were kept. I’d definitely consider that a classic name.

I think popular vs trendy does have to do with how fast it went up the charts. I don’t think [name]Charlotte[/name] or [name]Amelia[/name] are either trendy, although they’re both popular. I’m not a fan of [name]Juliana[/name] though. I think [name]Juliet[/name] or even [name]Julia[/name] would be better.

Thank you for your input. I am wondering if you all wouldn’t mind picking a favorite out of those names. Or any suggestions on any names you think I might like.

Out of your three, [name]Charlotte[/name] would be my pick. [name]Lottie[/name] is beyond adorable.
