The name at the top of my girls list for a while has been [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] [name_f]Oriana[/name_f]- i love both names, i love them together and, joy of joys, dh loves it too. But last night dh said that [name_f]Oriana[/name_f] was really growing on him and liked [name_f]Oriana[/name_f] [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] better. Well, i think i’m still firmly in the [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] camp, but i do like to have options. My only slight niggle is that our surname is 0rm$by and i’m not sure if [name_f]Oriana[/name_f] 0rm$by sounds sweet and lyrical or silly and cartoonish. What do you guys think? I have to say that Dh swayed me a bit when he said we could call her Oreo! I mean, that’s pretty darn cute
I think it pretty works. When I was a child, I had a nickname that sound alliterative and very cartoonish with my last name and not a big deal. [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t worry.
I think [name_f]Oriana[/name_f] Orm$by is lovely. I do like [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] but I think [name_f]Oriana[/name_f] fits better with [name_u]Juniper[/name_u].
[name_f]Oriana[/name_f] Orm$by could be the normal name of a superhero (or super villain?). I really like it! [name_f]Oriana[/name_f] [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] is gorgeous, I think I might like this a teeny bit more than [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] [name_f]Oriana[/name_f] actually. But I’m a sucker for good alliteration…
I like [name_f]Oriana[/name_f] [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] as well and think the alliteration works. Oreo is adorable.
This may be a stupid question, but Im a little bit confused as to why people put special characters sometimes in the middle of a name in the forums. Is it so if someone types your last name into google it wont come up because you typed Orm$by? I feel really dumb asking this, but can someone let me know? Lol.
It sounds slightly stagey, but not in a bad way. I can’t imagine the name nazis approving but I am not into stilted naming rules so I would care mainly about whether I was in love with the name and how my DD would like it. The fact is, once you have made the birth announcement, the vast vast majority of the time her fist name will be said without her last name, unless she does in fact become a persona in which case she already will have a very cute and catchy stage name.
It’s to keep their correctly spelled names from showing up in search engines, sort of as a way to protect their privacy on some level. I spell my name slightly wrong on here so it doesn’t show up in google.
I’m the minority so far but I think the repetition of Or-Or is too much. Something like [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] Or… wouldn’t bother me since it’s just the alliteration of the O but with both first letters I think it’s too much. Although Oreo is adorable and hard to resist! Or-Or isn’t so bad that I would reject it out of hand, it would just make me keep looking.
I have to disagree with pp though - I use my first and last name all the time. I agree middle names don’t come up much in the real world if you don’t want them to, but the first and last name are said together A LOT.
I love both combos equally. Whether you decide to go with [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] [name_f]Oriana[/name_f] or [name_f]Oriana[/name_f] [name_f]Celeste[/name_f], you can’t go wrong.
I agree about [name_f]Oriana[/name_f] Orm$by being too much or an alliteration. At least while she’s in school, every time she writes her name on a test, or a teacher does attendance her full name will be heard. Why don’t you name her [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] Orm$by, but just nickname her Oreo after her middle name anyways. Personally, I like [name_f]Oriana[/name_f] a lot more than [name_f]Celeste[/name_f], but it doesn’t work with your last name. [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Ariana[/name_f] instead of [name_f]Oriana[/name_f]? That would totally solve your problem, and you could still call her Oreo if you really wanted to. [name_f]Ariana[/name_f] [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] Orm$by is really nice!
I like the name [name_f]Oriana[/name_f] Orm$by! The nn Oreo is so cute it is unreal! Definitely prefer this combo for you. Great choice of names and I love [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] btw.
Thanks for all the replies! Hmm, I’m still unsure really but i’m not going cross it off the list completely. I actually love alliteration but i think alliteration with a vowel can go either way. I totally agree with gwensmom, its not the double O, its the double Or that’s the problem but i’ve heard worse. Its a really difficult last name to pair anything with; unfortunately all the [name_f]Cora[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f], [name_f]Dora[/name_f] names are out because it sounds like i’m talking with a mouth full of marbles, and sadly that means the lovely [name_f]Coralie[/name_f] and [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] too.
[name_f]Ottilie[/name_f], yes, it does sound like a superhero alias! So that’s a tick in the pro column!
I still love the thought of having a little [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] though. Now all i need is a baby to name!
I much prefer [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] [name_f]Oriana[/name_f]. I have an alliterative name, and I still haven’t forgiven my parents. [name_f]Oriana[/name_f] Ormsby is just too cutesy to be taken seriously. Also, you might want to confine ‘Oreo’ to your home, because it can be taken as a racial slur–wouldn’t want to find yourself misunderstood. [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] [name_f]Oriana[/name_f] is lovely, though!
I prefer the [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] [name_f]Oriana[/name_f] combo with your surname. I don’t like the matchy Or-Or beginnings. Sorry but it does sound cartoonish and reminds me of sounds some animals make (the [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] the Pooh donkey Eeyore comes to mind) or a bad name for a promiscuous woman. I also think [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] is gorgeous with [name_u]Juniper[/name_u].
I would avoid [name_f]Oriana[/name_f] in the first spot due to the alliteration. It sounds like a name that would be used in a children’s book (not quite cartoonish, but almost)
I like it, actually. It has a quirky, British feel to me; it sounds like a name you’d come across on a Hogwarts class roster. I’ll let you decide if you like that or not. I do prefer the flow of [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] [name_f]Oriana[/name_f], but I’m not fond of the flow of [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] with your surname.
I think [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] [name_f]Oriana[/name_f] is much nicer.
I actually love the alliteration of [name_f]Oriana[/name_f] with your surname! [name_f]Oriana[/name_f] Orm$by is really cool.
I actually like it better than [name_f]Celeste[/name_f], and I think [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] and [name_f]Oriana[/name_f] are really cool together.
My rule is that if the names are sophisticated sounding it works, if they are more out-there or cutesy it’s best avoided. Ex. [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_m]Miller[/name_m], great. [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] Paddington, cartoonish.
