We’re leaning towards [name_m]Hamish[/name_m] for a boy.
I’m hesitant because our last name starts with sharp. I’m worried that the ish- at the end to [name_m]Hamish[/name_m] will blend into the sh and sound like slurring.
My first name ends in -a and my last name begins with the same sound, so I know what you mean. Definitely to me when I say my full name, it can blend together in a bit of a weird way, but I honestly wouldn’t let that deter you if you really like a name - it’s never bothered me or my sister who has a name ending in -a as well.
It blends a bit, but I would say it’s irrelevant if you like the name. [name_m]How[/name_m] often is someone called by their full name? People aren’t going to call him [name_m]Hamish[/name_m] [name_m]Sharp[/name_m]. They’re going to call him [name_m]Hamish[/name_m]. It’s a cool name and I think to skip it because of the last name would be a mistake.
I can see where you’re coming from, but I think this is the sort of thing that seems like a huge deal when you’re trying to pick out a name from a whole world of possibilities, but turns out not to be an issue in real life. [name_m]Hamish[/name_m] is a very handsome name, and if this is the only thing you’re hesitating over then I think you should go for it!
For context, I was concerned about giving baby #3 a name starting with An- because it sounded clunky after “and”, and she was going to be last in the list for a long time (blame the pregnancy hormones!) Anyway, we used the name and it’s just not an issue that ever comes up. I’m glad we didn’t talk ourselves out of an otherwise perfect name!
