Does this combo work?

I’m due in [name_f]May[/name_f] with our first little girl! We have a son named [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] [name_m]William[/name_m] who is 2 y/o so we’re really excited for our newest arrival! I have loved the name [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] for yearrrrs despite being told pretty often that it reminds people of the ogre from Shrek

My husband likes [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] alright (not his favorite) so it’s been set as our girl name for a few weeks now. I can’t seem to settle on a middle name! Right now we’re fairly set on naming her [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] after my grandmother but I can’t help but wonder if it’s a lot of name veering into the category of too much name. Our last name sounds pretty similar to the word “cajun” if that helps at all.

Besides [name_f]Frances[/name_f], we like [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] and [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] but have no personal connection with either of those names so it feels a bit like a wasted opportunity. I have my great-grandmother’s name as my middle name and I’ve always loved that.

The OTHER part of me really loves [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] because it feels so different from all the little girls with soft names that glide off your tongue (we know several [name_f]Lila[/name_f]'s and [name_f]Claire[/name_f]'s and [name_f]Ella[/name_f]'s) there’s something clunky and cool that I like about it! We won’t be calling her [name_f]Fifi[/name_f] or [name_f]Franny[/name_f] and we already call her [name_f]Fia[/name_f] which I find a lot cuter so the middle name really won’t be used by anyone but family and official documents. It still seems to occupy a lot of my brain power

What do you think?

I love [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f]! I also love that [name_f]Frances[/name_f] is meaningful to you and it’s the one I hope you choose.

[name_f]Fiona[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] is really pretty! Not too much name at all. It is wonderfully spunky and very meaningful!

You could also consider [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], as [name_f]Frances[/name_f] and [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] both have meanings related to freedom.

Good luck & congratulations

I think [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] is great. I love [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] and I think [name_f]Frances[/name_f] makes it a little less princessy. I also like the alliteration.

What a fantastic choice!!!

I agree that it doesn’t sound like too much name, and I vote for meaning over a name with no connection any day!

[name_f]Fiona[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] is adorable and fun to say! The nickname [name_f]Fia[/name_f] is sweet. I like Fi too.

I think it’s lovely! I have a secret love of alliterative names, and [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] is great–alliterative but not rhymey or too repetitive.

I think [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] is darling. And I always feel that a middle name with meaning is much better than one that simply flows. I hope you keep it.

I like [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] a lot with [name_m]Patrick[/name_m]. I definitely don’t think you should worry about the Shrek thing. It’s not a bad association, and I don’t think it’ll matter over the long term.

I definitely say go with [name_f]Frances[/name_f]. A meaningful middle name adds about a million points to a name for me.
