Lately I’ve been thinking about the name [name_m]Ivar[/name_m] again.
[name_m]Finnian[/name_m] [name_m]Ivar[/name_m]? Does it flow?
[name_f]My[/name_f] partner loves [name_m]Finnian[/name_m] but he thinks [name_m]Finnian[/name_m] [name_m]Ivar[/name_m] sounds a bit too ‘viking’
Thoughts?
I can kinda get what they mean by ‘viking’ but I don’t think it’s an obvious problem or anything. [name_m]Finnian[/name_m] [name_m]Ivar[/name_m] is handsome and I think it flows fine!
I love [name_m]Finnian[/name_m] [name_m]Ivar[/name_m] and think it flows well. I see [name_m]Ivar[/name_m] as Viking but not really [name_m]Finnian[/name_m], in any case it sounds very cool
Haha me either. Well I guess a lot of the Scandinavian names.
I guess when you get some type of imagery in your head over a name, it is hard to think of anything else
[name_m]Finnian[/name_m] [name_m]Ivar[/name_m] is gorgeous! I love [name_m]Ivar[/name_m], Viking-ness and all.
The only thing I’d say is that as a combo it feels like quite a style departure from your other sons’ names. I feel like [name_m]Finnian[/name_m] [name_u]Jude[/name_u] or [name_u]Charles[/name_u] (previous ideas I think?) bridge the style gap better, but that’s by no means a big deal. Would he go by [name_u]Finn[/name_u] for short?
I think Finnian Ivar is a great combo. However, if your partner does not like Ivar, the mn Ivo is a similar name that does not have the “Vikingness” of Ivar. I think Finnian Ivo would sound just as handsome as Finnian Ivar, and it would also go better with your other sons’ names.
[name_u]Jude[/name_u] and [name_u]Charles[/name_u] are middle name contenders too, as is [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] and [name_m]Samuel[/name_m].
[name_m]Ivar[/name_m] would be a bit of a wildcard like/suggestion from me. There is just something about [name_m]Ivar[/name_m] which I really gravitate towards
I agree with you in terms of style and origin that it may be a departure but I feel like [name_m]Ivar[/name_m] gets away with it, as my other boys middle names are similiar in length and syllable count. We definitely intend to use [name_u]Finn[/name_u]. As you know, my other boys names have a long, formal version with a friendly and familiar nickname. That is how we arrived at [name_m]Finnian[/name_m] actually. We liked the formality of [name_m]Finnian[/name_m], seemed more serious than ‘Finley’ less unusual as [name_m]Finneas[/name_m] ( for us) annnnd we the bonus if being able to use [name_u]Finn[/name_u].
[name_m]Ivo[/name_m] is a great suggestion. However, for me, it is a bit too close in sound to my youngest middle name. His middle is [name_u]Theo[/name_u].
I think my partner isn’t very against the name [name_m]Ivar[/name_m], he just feels like the combination of [name_m]Finnian[/name_m] [name_m]Ivar[/name_m] seems too ‘viking’ I believe it’s because there is a character on The Last [name_m]Kingdom[/name_m] called [name_m]Finan[/name_m], who isn’t actually a Viking, he is a [name_u]Christian[/name_u] character🤦 and there is of course [name_m]Ivar[/name_m] the boneless…
I was pondering [name_m]Iver[/name_m] or [name_m]Ivor[/name_m] spelling, but it just doesn’t sing to me like [name_m]Ivar[/name_m] does! And there is also [name_m]Ivan[/name_m]. But [name_m]Ivan[/name_m] and [name_m]Finnian[/name_m] have similiar endings and therefore do not work.
If anyone else has any suggestions on a middle which gives the same vibes as [name_m]Ivar[/name_m] and which works well with [name_m]Finnian[/name_m], I’d love to hear.
aww i’d love to meet a finnian ivar ! i agree it is a little bolder compared to your other choices and children’s names - would you feel that you would be settling for a more traditional name (to fit with their style) if you didn’t pick finnian ivar ?
Hello! I feel like we are definitely sticking with Finnian, which I know is a little unusual considering the popularity of my other boys names Zàchary and Alexànder. They do however get Zàch and Alëx and a Finnian would get Finn. And I love the idea of Zàch, Aléx and Finn that feels cohesive to me.
Perhaps like @katinka said the overall combo of Finnian Ivar is perhaps a real style departure from my boys names. Just wonder if Ivar is GP territory. Probably
And yes I have got a few other more classic middles, namely
Jude
Thomas
Samuel.
I’ve actually done a seperate post underneath boy names tab on this
[name_m]Finan[/name_m] is one of the reasons I started liking [name_m]Finnian[/name_m], his character is great. (But as you say, not even Viking!) I’m not sure how many people would necessarily think of him and [name_m]Ivar[/name_m] the boneless. If it was something like [name_m]Ragnar[/name_m] [name_m]Ivar[/name_m] then that might be taking it a bit too far (!) but [name_m]Finnian[/name_m] [name_m]Ivar[/name_m] is fine, I love it. I do think [name_m]Finnian[/name_m] [name_u]Jude[/name_u] sounds amazing too though (and maybe a better option if your partner would be more on board). [name_m]Finnian[/name_m] [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] (or just [name_m]Finnian[/name_m] Sam?) is also lovely.
I’ve just been reading your other post! So yes, [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] even better with the meaning behind it. And I do like [name_u]Sam[/name_u] on it’s own with your other boys middles.
I love it! [name_m]Ivar[/name_m] reminds me of [name_m]Alexander[/name_m], but shorter, which [name_m]Ive[/name_m] always loved in the middle. [name_u]Love[/name_u] the Viking vibes too.
I remember he liked [name_u]Oliver[/name_u] and I can’t help but notice how similar [name_u]Oliver[/name_u] and [name_m]Ivar[/name_m] are in sound. [name_m]Ivar[/name_m] flows better in my opinion.
