Does this pairing work?

I’ve always focused my name deliberations on girls. Partly because we have a daughter (M@rgot J0sephine) and we knew she was a girl from 22 weeks so we had longer to focus on girl options. And partly because there was only ever one boy name we both liked so that was that.

But now we’re facing down the barrel of TTC #2. And I worry about the connotations of our number one boy choice with [name_f]Margot[/name_f].

So. If I told you I had two children, named [name_f]Margot[/name_f] and [name_m]Frank[/name_m], would that ring any bells/have any connotations to you?

[name_m]Just[/name_m] in case anyone suggests it, [name_m]Frank[/name_m] is a very important family name on both sides, and we aren’t interested in [name_u]Francis[/name_u]/[name_m]Franklin[/name_m], we like it (a lot!) as a full name in and of itself. The full name would probably be [name_m]Frank[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m], maybe [name_m]Frank[/name_m] [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] if I could convince my OH.

It sounded vaguely familiar but I couldn’t recall why until I looked it up—and I think it sounded familiar only because you asked. If I was introduced to siblings named [name_f]Margot[/name_f] and [name_m]Frank[/name_m], I’m willing to bet my only thought would be that it’s a lovely pairing.

[name_f]Margot[/name_f] and [name_m]Frank[/name_m] didn’t ring any bells for me. I looked it up, and I really don’t think very many people will put that together ([name_f]Anne[/name_f] would be a different story, but she’s much more well known). I think they go well together as siblings!

No bells (I also looked up afterwards).

Didn’t ring a bell either!
[name_m]Frank[/name_m] is a very well-known name, and [name_f]Margot[/name_f] is rising in popularity so I doubt anyone would find it too weird even if they did think of [name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_m]Frank[/name_m].

[name_f]Margot[/name_f] was [name_f]Anne[/name_f] [name_m]Frank[/name_m]'s big sister but I only knew that cos my little sis was a WWII fanatic.

It does ring a bell as the last name of [name_f]Anne[/name_f] and [name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_m]Frank[/name_m]. However, I got really into [name_f]Anne[/name_f]'s diary when I was younger, so I don’t think most people will immediately think about that. Plus, it’s quite subtle, so I don’t think you’ll have any issues. [name_m]Just[/name_m] don’t name any future kids [name_f]Anne[/name_f] or [name_m]Otto[/name_m].

I really like [name_f]Margot[/name_f] and [name_m]Frank[/name_m] together! Didn’t ring any bells for me, but I (also) looked it up since you mentioned it. [name_m]Even[/name_m] if I had known of [name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_m]Frank[/name_m], I wouldn’t have thought it was weird or inappropriate.

I wouldn’t have made the connection on my own. I think [name_f]Margot[/name_f] and [name_m]Frank[/name_m] sound great for siblings.

I don’t know any [name_f]Margot[/name_f] and [name_m]Frank[/name_m] combos but it sounds fine to me. They aren’t matchy, but that can be refreshing. And I adore the name [name_m]Frank[/name_m]!

Thanks for your comments!

I always knew about [name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_m]Frank[/name_m] because I read the book as a child, but it’s hard to know whether a) many other people would make that link and b) if that’s an issue anyway, as [name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_m]Frank[/name_m]'s history was incredibly sad but not controversial in any way. You’ve all been reassuring that it’s probably not a huge deal.

Now the next dilemma - is [name_m]Frank[/name_m] still the name?
