[name_f]Elinor[/name_f] [name_m]Asbury[/name_m] … do you only hear “raspberry”?
Here is the backstory: Husband and I keep getting like 99% of the way to a name and then something changes for one of us. We had mostly settled on [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]/[name_f]Elinor[/name_f] [name_f]Ann[/name_f] (debating the spelling) which is the same first initial + middle as my mom. Then my dad passed away somewhat suddenly, and now I am hung up on honoring both of my parents with the name. [name_m]Asbury[/name_m] is a meaningful place name for my family and would honor both of my parents. But now I can’t unhear it.
Thoughts? Suggestions (other than Elizabeth)? Husband really loves names that have the nn Ellie.
I’m sorry to hear about your lost. I personally wouldn’t worry about the middle name, since most of the time she won’t go by her full name, unless if she’s in trouble or on graduation. Other than that, I like [name_f]Elinor[/name_f] [name_m]Asbury[/name_m].
But if you’re afraid of the name sounding like Raspberry…how about:
[name_f]Michelle[/name_f] “[name_f]Ellie[/name_f]”
[name_f]Elaine[/name_f] “[name_f]Ellie[/name_f]”
[name_f]Elaina[/name_f] “[name_f]Ellie[/name_f]”
[name_f]Ellen[/name_f] “[name_f]Ellie[/name_f]”
[name_f]Rochelle[/name_f] “[name_f]Ellie[/name_f]”
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] “[name_f]Ellie[/name_f]”
[name_f]Ellie[/name_f]
[name_f]Kellie[/name_f] “[name_f]Ellie[/name_f]”
[name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] “[name_f]Ellie[/name_f]”
[name_f]Noelle[/name_f] “[name_f]Ellie[/name_f]”
[name_f]Stella[/name_f] “[name_f]Ellie[/name_f]”
I don’t think it’s really an issue. If I keep saying It over and over, sure it sounds a little like raspberry, but not enough to overshadow your lovely honour name choice.
It’s not obvious at all written down, but it is when said aloud…but really, how many times in her life is she going to hear her full name said out loud?
I don’t think it’s a worry, but if it does bother you, maybe you could consider [name_f]Elinor[/name_f] [name_f]Ann[/name_f] [name_m]Asbury[/name_m], as [name_f]Ann[/name_f] works to split that ‘raspberry’ sound in two?
I was focused on [name_f]El[/name_f]- names but I love the [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] suggestion. I also think [name_f]Elinor[/name_f] [name_f]Ann[/name_f] [name_m]Asbury[/name_m] could work for us. Thank you, Berries!
I don’t hear raspberry unless I really try to hear it. It shouldn’t be a problem if you decide to name her that, most won’t make that association I don’t think. I also like others’ suggestion of putting [name_f]Ann[/name_f] in between the two in case you’re really worried about how it will sound.
I do hear it, but as others have said, it’s not a huge issue imo. I do second (errr, fourth? I don’t know how many people have agreed so far LOL) the suggestion of [name_f]Elinor[/name_f] [name_f]Ann[/name_f] [name_m]Asbury[/name_m] if it truly bothers you! [name_f]Elinor[/name_f] [name_m]Asbury[/name_m] is lovely though, imo.
I agree with the others here that it isn’t that big of an issue! I also personally think it’s adorable, if I were you, I would even lean into is a little bit. Call her raspberry, “berry cute”, my little berry. [name_m]Just[/name_m] as a special inside joke, because most people won’t hear it when you first say her name to them. And they likely won’t hear her middle name all that often either.
I think [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_m]Asbury[/name_m] is a beautiful choice with special meaning to you, and honors your father in a very unique way. If it’s your favorite, go for it I do also like the option of [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Ann[/name_f] [name_m]Asbury[/name_m], too.
