Hello Berries! [name_f]Hope[/name_f] all you are well!
I’m currently pregnant with twin girls, and I thought we had their names locked down but that might not be the case. We already have one daughter, Grace [name_f]Rowena[/name_f], and had chosen Ada [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] and Theodora [name_f]Cosima[/name_f] (nickname [name_f]Thea[/name_f]) for our little girls.
We made the terrible decision to tell my parents about our choices and even though they loved the names, my mother expressed concern about having [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] as a sister for [name_f]Ada[/name_f] and [name_f]Grace[/name_f] since it was a long name next to two short names. I absolutely love the name [name_f]Thea[/name_f] (and that’s what we will call her most of the time) but I don’t think [name_f]Thea[/name_f] is complete without being a nickname for [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] (I don’t know if that makes sense but I hope you understand).
Do you think [name_f]Grace[/name_f], [name_f]Ada[/name_f] and [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] works or is my mother right? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you have other suggestions?
I disagree completely with your mother actually. [name_f]Ada[/name_f] and [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] sound beautiful together! I don’t think having one longer name is strange sounding at all! If you are calling her [name_f]Thea[/name_f] then it actually fits in nicely with [name_f]Grace[/name_f] and [name_f]Ada[/name_f]. I say go for it no matter what your mother says. And anyway when the girls are born your mother will hopefully be more preoccupied with her gorgeous new grandchildren then if they’re names fit together.
I totally get it !!! Its the aesthetic and I agree that [name_f]Thea[/name_f] feels incomplete without being diminutive of a bigger name. Like [name_u]Theo[/name_u] and [name_m]Ben[/name_m].
Totally go for it. And I have name OCD.
It works fine since she’s pretty much going to be [name_f]Thea[/name_f].
Beautiful names. [name_f]Thea[/name_f] and [name_f]Ada[/name_f], and then [name_f]Grace[/name_f].
You COULD give [name_f]Ada[/name_f] a longer name like [name_f]Adeline[/name_f]… but I think [name_f]Ada[/name_f] is aid-uh and [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] is [name_m]Ad[/name_m]-uh.
I think they work together absolutely fine but my first thought was that [name_f]Grace[/name_f], [name_f]Ada[/name_f] and [name_f]Thea[/name_f] would be just gorgeous together. I adore [name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] and [name_f]Thea[/name_f] [name_f]Cosima[/name_f]! [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] [name_f]Cosima[/name_f] is lovely too though and if you feel that [name_f]Thea[/name_f] isn’t complete enough then go for [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] - it’s a lovely name.
I think the name while not similar in length work well when said together, would it be more aesthetic to have three shortish names instead of one long, yes in a sense but were naming kids so that’s never the first concern! You love the names and they already pair well so I say you have no problem,
Opinion wise I love [name_f]Thea[/name_f] [name_f]Cosima[/name_f] more than [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] [name_f]Cosima[/name_f], however it’s obviously not to your liking so I wouldn’t pair it with [name_f]Ada[/name_f], if you want some blatant cohesiveness however, than what about a longer name for [name_f]Ada[/name_f] and make said name the nn?
Unfortunately, the only name we even considered to have [name_f]Ada[/name_f] as a nickname was [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], but it’s the name of a city close to the place we live so that’s an automatic no. Thank you!
Thank you for your opinion! If you don’t mind me asking, what is the thing that you love more about [name_f]Thea[/name_f] compared to [name_f]Theodora[/name_f]?
For me it has to be the way it goes well with [name_f]Cosima[/name_f], I think [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] [name_f]Cosima[/name_f] is a grand name but [name_f]Thea[/name_f] [name_f]Cosima[/name_f] sounds spunky and fun, and I like that take on names better than what I consider to be a more regal [name_f]Theodora[/name_f], I also like the way it’s pronounced in Spanish slightly better than [name_f]Theodora[/name_f], it’s my first language so if it has a pronunciation in Spanish first I tend to read it as that and than pronounce it in [name_f]English[/name_f], I pronounce [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] the same way you pronounce the Spanish equivalent of the name [name_f]Teodora[/name_f]
I love [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] , [name_f]Ada[/name_f] and [name_f]Grace[/name_f]! I think you should follow your heart and go with the name you love !
Ada could be [name_f]Adamaris[/name_f] , [name_f]Adaline[/name_f], [name_f]Adamina[/name_f] or [name_f]Adabella[/name_f] if you think you need a longer name. But I think your girls names are perfect the way you are !
Ada [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] & [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] [name_f]Cosima[/name_f] are gorgeous! Sure, [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] is a little bit long next to [name_f]Grace[/name_f] & [name_f]Ada[/name_f], but I don’t see it as a problem if you love [name_f]Theodora[/name_f].
I think [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] and [name_f]Thea[/name_f] both work in your case. While your mother is right about the length of the names being different, I don’t think that should stop you.
Once these girls are grown, their names won’t be tied to their sibling’s names all the time anyway.
While I agree that [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] disrupts the “flow” of the names somewhat when written or said together, I don’t think it is that big of a deal. They will be referred to as individuals much more often than they will be referred to as a set–especially in adulthood. The names all have a similar vibe, so it doesn’t exactly smack you in the face anyway.
If it really bothers you, I see two viable options:
Grace [name_f]Rowena[/name_f], [name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] and [name_f]Thea[/name_f] [name_f]Cosima[/name_f]
[name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_f]Rowena[/name_f], [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] and [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] [name_f]Cosima[/name_f]
I think [name_f]Thea[/name_f] stands on its own nicely, but know you expressed distaste for [name_f]Thea[/name_f] as a standalone name. Moving to [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] “[name_f]Ada[/name_f]” and [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] “[name_f]Thea[/name_f]” is a valid choice. I think [name_f]Grace[/name_f] is less of an outlier in this case than [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] is in the existing structure because she is not a twin.
Grace, [name_f]Ada[/name_f] and [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] work fine together - I know plenty of sibsets where there’s one sibling with a longer name or one with a shorter name, or one with a nickname as a first and the others with traditional names, etc. I don’t see an issue for it.
