My SO has decided he loves [name]Wilhelm[/name] as much as he likes our #1 choice, [name]Isaac[/name]. Would a sibset of [name]Isaac[/name] and [name]Wilhelm[/name] work, or does it sound weird?
I absolutely adore [name]Isaac[/name], I think it is adorable with the nn [name]Ike[/name]. [name]Wilhelm[/name] is another story, I immediately add ‘[name]Kaiser[/name]’ to the start of it and all I can think of is helmets and WW1. Maybe it’s because I’m studying [name]History[/name] A-Level. But if your [name]Wilhelm[/name] ever happened to love history, he may be in a bit of a predicament.
I think I would prefer the Dutch [name]Willem[/name] or even [name]William[/name] as [name]Isaac[/name]'s brother. The [name]German[/name] [name]Wilhelm[/name] is pronounced with a “v” (vilhelm) and it’s really strongly associated with the [name]Kaiser[/name] in my mind.
I agree with mischa that [name]Willem[/name] would work nicely.
I don’t dislike [name]Wilhelm[/name], and I think it could conceivably work, but it doesn’t has the same feel as [name]Isaac[/name].
I don’t see a problem with [name]Isaac[/name] and [name]Wilhelm[/name] as brothers. I even like [name]Wilhelm[/name] as a middle for [name]Isaac[/name], or the other way around. I don’t think [name]Kaiser[/name] [name]Wilhelm[/name] is an issue at all. Most of his peer will call him [name]Wil[/name], and those that don’t won’t be likely to make the connection. [name]Even[/name] if they do, so what?

[name]Martin[/name] (SO) wants the w pronounced instead of the v because he knows that it would lead to constant pronunciation problems when we moved out of our heavily [name]German[/name] area. And knowing that I would be pronouncing it wrong bothers me a bit but for convenience’s sake I could use either pronunciation.
I think of [name]Kaiser[/name] [name]Wilhelm[/name] too (I like history) but considering that I push almost all of [name]Martin[/name]'s favorites to the middle I feel like I should give him one first name he likes. I’m not a big fan of the nickname [name]Wil[/name] but maybe Vil or even Helm?

And Martin plans on calling Isaac, Zac most the time. Zac and Wim? Zac and Helm?

I like [name]Willem[/name] more than [name]Wilhelm[/name] but I think they both go well with [name]Isaac[/name].
I’m not a fan of the nn [name]Wim[/name] because it is pronounced like whim and can easily be changed to wimp by other children who are looking to make fun of him.
I found that Wilky, [name]Vili[/name], Vilim, [name]Vilko[/name] and [name]Pim[/name] are forms of [name]William[/name] in other languages that might work as nns.
I think [name]Wilhelm[/name] and [name]Isaac[/name] work really well together. [name]Isaac[/name] works because he translates so well into many different languages, and I consider [name]Isaac[/name] to be one of those names that works for a variety of styles.

Sorry, but I think it sounds terrible together. I love [name]Isaac[/name].
I like [name]Wilhelm[/name] but I’m [name]German[/name] so pronunciation issues wouldn’t have occurred to me. I would only use it if you and your husband also like the english pronunciation since ALOT of people will get it wrong.
[name]Martin[/name] likes the English pronunciation and I can live with it although I will probably use both pronunciations.
