Does Tirzah Joy sound too much like "tears of joy" ??

[name_m]Just[/name_m] my luck! I find a name to pair with [name_f]Joy[/name_f] that I adore and I feel like, when I say it out loud, I am saying “tears of joy”. The name [name_f]Tirzah[/name_f] is pronounced “teer-za”. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think I should avoid using this combination?

It does sound like “tears of joy”. I’d avoid it.

It does sound just like “tears of joy” to me however I don’t think that’s a negative - it’s actually quite sweet. Especially if [name_f]Joy[/name_f] is her middle name (not a double-barrel first name) it won’t be used all that much, so it’s kind of like a fun ‘surprise’ that her middle name, when given, adds further meaning to her name. My middle name is “[name_f]Joy[/name_f]” and my mom always says it’s because she cried tears of joy when she had me, so I think it’s a very sweet sentiment!

I agree that it seems sweet! I’d probably avoid it because it seems to bother you a lot, but if there’s any way to change your mind, it’s such a beautiful combo!

Yes it does and I hate it

It definitely sounds like “tears of joy,” and if I didn’t know better, I would guess her parents made her name a pun on purpose. The phrase “tears of joy” is a positive one though, so it’s not necessarily a bad thing if you like puns.

It does sound like tears of joy, but I like it. [name_f]Tirzah[/name_f] is a beautiful name.

[name_f]Tirzah[/name_f] is a beautiful name, fun, pretty, and unique. I think it sounds good with [name_f]Joy[/name_f] too though I agree it sounds like Tears of joy.

I would suggest if you really love both [name_f]Joy[/name_f] as the middle and [name_f]Tirzah[/name_f] as a first, use it. A few people might think the pun was on purpose but most wont even realize the connection especially since her name won’t be said out loud often. On top of that it’s not a bad association and is actually kinda cute.

Sure a few might think it’s a bit cheesy but it’s not their kid. It won’t be a name to ruin her life and if you can come to be ok with the connection it’s fine. If you can’t get past it and it bothers you, maybe just keep looking.

If you do pick the combo and want to proudly introduce her as her full name when she’s born, make sure you take the time to pronounce it clear, slow (maybe a slight pause between first and middle rather than letting them run together) and add her last name too- just to help avoid that being the first think people pick up on.

It does sound a lot like that phrase, but that doesn’t make it unusable. [name_m]Just[/name_m] something to think about if it bothers you or not. Her first and middle won’t be said together a lot. Most often by you, the parent, and on some other random occasions, such as a graduation ceremony. It’s not the end of the world if it’s a bit of a pun.

Well, if you WANTED to name her Tears of [name_f]Joy[/name_f] and you made up [name_f]Tirzah[/name_f] in order to achieve this… I wouldn’t recommend it. But since you chose both names before combining them, just keep repeating it’s a happy accident.
When she writes [name_f]Tirzah[/name_f] J. friends will ask “What does the J stand for?”
Then they’ll put it together and grin. Then they’ll tell her it sounds like tears of joy. I’m sure she won’t be surprised by the time she’s in high school. Supply her with a good reply.

It’s not terrible unless her last name is [name_m]Payne[/name_m]. [name_f]Tirzah[/name_f] [name_m]Payne[/name_m] would get a definite NO from me.

Yes, it’s too similar.

It does. I wouldn’t use it.

I’ve been thinking about this a bit since my original answer. [name_f]Tirzah[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f] DOES sound much like tears of joy when it is pronounced with neither syllable emphasized. When pronounced TEER-zah [name_f]Joy[/name_f], the similarity isn’t as obvious. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you know which way the names is typically pronounced? (Your pronunciation guide didn’t show either syllable emphasized, but I wasn’t sure if that was just because it wasn’t necessary there)

Also, just a thought… you could put a one or two syllable name in between [name_f]Tirzah[/name_f] and [name_f]Joy[/name_f] (for example [name_f]Tirzah[/name_f] [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f]) so that you get to keep the names you love together. There’s always the possibility you won’t be able to find a name that doesn’t mess with the imagery you love, but then again you could find a stunning combo!

Yes, it’s like [name_m]Myles[/name_m] [name_m]Long[/name_m], [name_f]Eileen[/name_f] Down, [name_f]Annette[/name_f] Curtin etc.
[name_m]Don[/name_m]'t do it!!!

I’m not a big fan of name puns. So I’d use a different combo.
