I am curious, did anyone end up giving their baby a name that they got specifically from a Nameberry forum? (Or just the website itself) Like one that you had never heard of already or had never considered until you saw it in a Nameberry forum.
Whether it was found in the responses to a forum post you had created or in the comments to someone elses post does not matter. It could be either the first or middle name, for a boy or a girl, or multiples.
If so, what was the name you chose and why did you choose it? Looking forward to hearing your answers.
[name_f]Lilia[/name_f] was never really on my radar even though she actually is perfect for me and my family. [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] honours my mother brilliantly following the Ashkenazi tradition of using (preferably) the first and last letter of the name of the person your honouring (my mum is Laura) and is commonly used across Eastern Europe where my mother’s family originate from. She’s also a flower name (one of my favourite flowers) and honours my paternal Grandma as lilies are a favourite flower of hers. But until I actually got pregnant she wasn’t even on my radar not even on my extended list of names it wasn’t till I started looking through nameberry lists that she came to the forefront of my mind. I actually hadn’t even thought about her. Then the name and berry enthusiasm for [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] just made me fall even harder for her. So I would say even though [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] is incredibly meaningful, honours my family perfectly and has a massive thumbs up from mum if it wasn’t for nameberry I don’t think I’d have used [name_f]Lilia[/name_f].
Sort of [name_u]Berry[/name_u] names here too. I have a [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] and [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_m]Jon[/name_m]. Both firsts I had already heard in books (Twilight and To Kill A Mockingbird, of course) but I hadn’t considered them as actual baby names until I saw other people suggesting them and using them here. I guess the forum gave them a “real life” element as I hadn’t met any actual people with those names before. I also required some reassurance that my daughter wouldn’t just be associated with [name_u]Twilight[/name_u] as that wasn’t my intention (to this day no one has mentioned the connection - she’s 6) so people here helped with that as well.
Their middles aren’t [name_u]Berry[/name_u] names – [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] is for His [name_u]Dark[/name_u] Materials, [name_m]Jon[/name_m] is my husband’s middle as well. We just wanted something short and sweet to pair with [name_m]Atticus[/name_m].
I’m pretty sure I first thought of [name_m]Endymion[/name_m], one of our twins’ names, after reading about it here on Nameberry. Of course I’d encountered the name before when reading Greek myths, but it wasn’t really on my radar. I can’t remember who suggested it to me, or when I first really considered it though, it somehow just ended up on our list Looking back, Endymion’s name is the one I kind of regret, out of all my children’s names. We were completely stuck on a name for Leonid’s twin brother, they were born prematurely, my husband couldn’t be at the hospital and we were rushed into making a decision. I love his name, but if I could do it again I’d pick something different.
When naming our children I always came / come here for advice, except with my oldest because I wasn’t on here when he was born. It helps me make up my mind, and I’ve had some great suggestions. Together with my husband, Nameberry has given me the confidence to pick names for our children that we really love, and not just ones that “everybody” will like.
