Being a dog lover, I just watched The Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show and was struck that a couple of dogs were called Maitrise. Sorry, don’t know how to put the double dots over the i.
Met-riz I think.
Google says it means mastery, but I don’t know connotations.
I thought it was lovely. Anyone know anything about it?

Maîtrise is just a french word meaning “mastery or to master”
It’s definitely not a given name but I like it and don’t see why it couldn’t be used, especially on a dog.
I’d pronounce it “May-tri-ze” in french

I’ve definitely heard of the name Matrice which I imagine is pronounced similarly. [name_m]Can[/name_m] also be spelled Mitrice. I think I prefer Metrise, to be honest.
