Doing it the wrong way around

Hello

We are expecting a baby and are struggling with baby names… mostly we struggle to agree but also how to make the name sound right with the surname!

Our son’s name is [name_m]Joe[/name_m] which was the only one we could agree on last time. But because the surnane is short and one syllable only we registered him [name_m]Joseph[/name_m].

I love [name_m]Joe[/name_m]. It doesn’t seem to come with any preconceptions.

But it seems impossible to find a name second time round!

I am liking:
[name_m]Fox[/name_m]
[name_u]Rex[/name_u]
[name_m]Lucas[/name_m]/[name_m]Luke[/name_m]

My partner likes:
[name_u]Logan[/name_u]
[name_m]Floyd[/name_m]
[name_m]Mack[/name_m]

But no idea how to come up with a decent elongation of [name_m]Floyd[/name_m], [name_u]Rex[/name_u] or [name_m]Fox[/name_m]. [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t want to go with anything completely made up…

Please help as don’t want a nameless baby :-? x x

From your list I like [name_u]Rex[/name_u] and [name_m]Mack[/name_m] best.

My first thought was [name_u]Roy[/name_u].

Other suggestions:
[name_m]Dave[/name_m]
[name_m]Rhett[/name_m]
[name_u]Phil[/name_u]
[name_u]Ray[/name_u]
[name_m]Bill[/name_m]
[name_m]Rick[/name_m]
[name_m]Fred[/name_m]
[name_m]Greg[/name_m]
[name_m]Don[/name_m]
Ted
[name_u]Randy[/name_u]
Seth

[name_m]Long[/name_m] versions for [name_u]Rex[/name_u] could be [name_m]Regis[/name_m], [name_m]Reginald[/name_m] and [name_m]Rexford[/name_m] (which I think could work for nn [name_m]Fox[/name_m]).

Some ideas
[name_m]Felix[/name_m] (could be [name_m]Fox[/name_m])
[name_m]Frederick[/name_m] (could be [name_u]Rex[/name_u] or [name_m]Fox[/name_m] potentially, but it also gives you the options of [name_u]Freddie[/name_u], [name_m]Eric[/name_m], [name_u]Ricky[/name_u] etc)
[name_m]Matthew[/name_m] (could be [name_m]Mack[/name_m], [name_m]Matt[/name_m])
[name_m]Andrew[/name_m] ([name_u]Drew[/name_u])
[name_m]Robert[/name_m]/[name_m]Rupert[/name_m] (could be [name_u]Rex[/name_u])

[name_m]Fox[/name_m] could be from [name_u]Phoenix[/name_u].
I think [name_u]Rex[/name_u] could be short for [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]. Alternatively, you could do any R first name and [name_u]Alex/name_u as the middle to get to [name_u]Rex[/name_u] (i.e., [name_m]Robert[/name_m] [name_u]Alex[/name_u]).

[name_m]Mack[/name_m] could be short for [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m] or [name_m]Cormac[/name_m]!

Hmmm I think [name_m]Mark[/name_m] is the name for a brother of [name_m]Joe[/name_m], that or [name_m]Bruce[/name_m].

I like [name_m]Lucas[/name_m] ([name_m]Luke[/name_m]) best with [name_m]Joe[/name_m].
[name_m]Mack[/name_m] would would too, but you need a full name such as [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] or [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m]. [name_m]Mack[/name_m] is too nick-namey.
[name_m]Joe[/name_m] & [name_u]Rex[/name_u] could work too.

[name_m]Fox[/name_m] - I don’t like this word used as a name, and it sounds silly with the classic [name_m]Joe[/name_m].
[name_u]Logan[/name_u] - way too 1990’s
[name_m]Floyd[/name_m] - old-man name from early 20th century.

Thank you for your responses, very useful! I too like [name_u]Ray[/name_u] (partner doesnt) and while I love [name_m]Fox[/name_m] I do agree it’s a little novel next to [name_m]Joe[/name_m]…

Seems like [name_m]Mack[/name_m], [name_u]Rex[/name_u] and [name_m]Lucas[/name_m] are favoured and it’s nice to have some suggestions for full names! Many thanks!
