First of all I want to say thank you to those who voted on the poll I posted recently asking what middle name out of a certain two would best fit [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f], though it seems clear to me [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] won i’m still slightly deliberating, the reason it has took me so long to finally decide on one is because of another name thats caught my attention, or I guess ONCE AGAIN caught my attention this name as been a huge guilty pleasure of mine for a long time for many reasons.

I am a huge [name_f]Dolly[/name_f] [name_m]Parton[/name_m] fan, I love the warmth she gives off, she’s always happy, very talented and is very charitable, all things I would hope a future daughter of mine would have. But because I am such a big fan and would definitely introduce my children to her music would it seem a little much, basically would they grow up to hate their name due to people constantly mentioning it to them and getting [name_f]Dolly[/name_f] [name_m]Parton[/name_m] songs sang to them. My name is [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] and I’ve grew up having people sing the many songs with [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] in the title to me all my life, it would slightly annoy me at first but now I really don’t care.

Due to me mentioning this name quite a lot my Mum as really grew to love it, I didn’t really want to mention it to her at first as I thought she would hate it and find it too “out there” but she now mentions it to me when ever we’re talking about names, and trust me it’s a really hard task for me to actually find a name both me and her like. Though it does not really matter to me if my parents like or dislike any of my name choices, they themselves have often said when it comes down to me having children and naming them, it does not matter if they like it or not as long as its not something really ridiculous like chair or table they would keep quiet and let me name them whatever. But I also really like the idea that my Mum would like the name I chose for my child, it might sound silly but it kind of feels more special now that we have spoke about the name and both like it.
-
I also love the meaning “gift of God”. Meanings aren’t something that really bother me, if a name I like means something amazing too great but if not it’s not going to turn me off the name.
-
I also know that many people find this name quite “babyish” but I have known three [name_f]Dolly[/name_f]’s in my life one was a newborn, the other a teenager who was a little older than me in school and an older woman who is a family member through marriage, and the name suited all three of them perfectly. Where I live in [name_f]England[/name_f] [name_f]Dolly[/name_f] is uncommon without being unusual, which I like.

Another name on my list that I love and i’m 90% certain will be a future daughters name is [name_f]Etta[/name_f]. I [name_u]Love[/name_u] this name and the only reason it is 90% is due to me not knowing what surname my future children will have other wise this name would definitely be the one. But do the names [name_f]Etta[/name_f] & [name_f]Dolly[/name_f] seem too much like i’m naming my kids after my favourite singers don’t get me wrong I love them both but really I just like the names.
-
I also love the fact that growing up I was obsessed by baby dolls. I always had one with me wherever I went and I love the fact I would then have my real [name_f]Dolly[/name_f], but i’m also not sure if that is also a little weird and if my family who remember me as the kid who always had a doll would also think it strange.
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think I could/should take this one of my GP List and put it on my I want to use one day list?
If so please give me some ideas for Middle names, I thought about [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] for this one too but quickly changed my mind due to their being two sets of double L’s and I would then be naming a daughter the name of two celebrities, [name_f]Dolly[/name_f] [name_m]Parton[/name_m] and [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] Ball. I also thought about [name_f]Lisette[/name_f] but is that also too many L’s and double letters?
I would say no to [name_f]Dolly[/name_f] as a full name, but yes as a nickname. You could use it either as a nickname to a related name or just totally unrelated it could work for any name. But she may grow up and hate it and wish she had another name to fall back on or want something more professional when she is ready to get a job. You can still call her [name_f]Dolly[/name_f], but it gives her options. I can also imagine a teenage [name_f]Dolly[/name_f] not liking it.
Some idea of what it could be a nickname for:
[name_f]Dorothy[/name_f]
[name_f]Dolores[/name_f]
[name_f]Dora[/name_f]
[name_f]Dorothea[/name_f]
[name_f]Daniela[/name_f]
[name_f]Delia[/name_f]
[name_f]Theodora[/name_f], [name_f]Isadora[/name_f] (any –dora names)
[name_f]Dalia[/name_f]
[name_f]Delilah[/name_f]
[name_u]Delaney[/name_u]
[name_f]Darlene[/name_f]
[name_f]Delphine[/name_f]
[name_f]Delora[/name_f]
[name_u]Dylan[/name_u]
I think you could use it, I think it would fit quite nicely into British naming style, and generally I hold the belief that almost all names will actually age fine (I went to school with a girl called Pebbles and she’s a lawyer now).
You could make it a nickname, mamaenzi has given you some really nice options, and it would make it so that [name_f]Etta[/name_f] and [name_f]Dolly[/name_f] feel less like an homage to different singers. But also, I think you could just use [name_f]Dolly[/name_f].
[name_f]Dolly[/name_f] [name_f]Carina[/name_f]
[name_f]Dolly[/name_f] [name_f]Jessica[/name_f]
[name_f]Dolly[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f]
[name_f]Dolly[/name_f] [name_u]Meredith[/name_u]
[name_f]Dolly[/name_f] [name_f]Francesca[/name_f]
[name_f]Dolly[/name_f] [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]
[name_f]Dolly[/name_f] [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f]
[name_f]Dolly[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u]
I. [name_u]LOVE[/name_u]. [name_f]DOLLY[/name_f].
(Native Nashvillian here, so I’m totally biased. [name_f]Dolly[/name_f] [name_m]Parton[/name_m] is the queen of [name_u]Tennessee[/name_u]!)
I actually worked with a girl once named [name_f]Dollie[/name_f]. That was it - just [name_f]Dollie[/name_f]. [name_f]Dolly[/name_f] has personal meaning for me, as my husband’s grandmother ([name_f]Diamond[/name_f] [name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f]) went exclusively by [name_f]Dolly[/name_f]. If I could convince my husband, we would SO use it. Here are a few combos I like:
[name_f]Dolly[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u]
[name_f]Dolly[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f]
[name_f]Dolly[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f]
[name_f]Dolly[/name_f] [name_u]Reese[/name_u]
[name_f]Dolly[/name_f] [name_f]Lucille[/name_f]
Commenting on your “[name_f]Etta[/name_f] & [name_f]Dolly[/name_f]” concern, I think they could totally work as sisters without being too corny. [name_f]Loretta[/name_f] is also on my “I love but need to sweet-talk hubs into” list. And, [name_f]Etta[/name_f] is such a cute NN. [name_f]Loretta[/name_f] and [name_f]Dolly[/name_f] may be a little theme-y, but I really don’t mind them together. Plus, I think [name_f]Etta[/name_f] can totally stand alone as a name, though I do know a little [name_f]LouEtta[/name_f] who is just precious.
(Lor)[name_f]Etta[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]
(Lor)[name_f]Etta[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
(Lor)[name_f]Etta[/name_f] [name_u]Gray[/name_u]
(Lor)[name_f]Etta[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f]
My personal faves for a sibset would be [name_f]Dolly[/name_f] [name_u]Reese[/name_u] and [name_f]Etta[/name_f] [name_u]Gray[/name_u]. I just love the pairing of the older, more vintage first names with a more modern, fresh middle (which is why my #1 girl name is [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] [name_u]Sloane[/name_u]).
[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps!
[name_m]LONG[/name_m] LIVE [name_f]QUEEN[/name_f] [name_f]DOLLY[/name_f]!
[name_f]Dolly[/name_f] is completely useable. From one [name_f]Dolly[/name_f] [name_m]Parton[/name_m] fan to another, go for it!!
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] is on my list with the nn [name_f]Dolly[/name_f].
I pronounce it [name_m]Doll[/name_m]-yuh so the nn [name_f]Dolly[/name_f] seems fitting.
You seem to really love [name_f]Dolly[/name_f]. I would go for it. It seems perfect for you and your family. That is all that counts. To be honest, I didn’t see the [name_f]Etta[/name_f] & [name_f]Dolly[/name_f] connection. To me it seemed more like you were into more vintage names. I don’t think it is an issue.
