We’re considering [name_f]Domenica[/name_f], as it is a family name and we love the sound of it. My concern is always nicknames. Since [name_f]Domenica[/name_f] means “[name_f]Sunday[/name_f]” I’ve always thought “[name_u]Sunny[/name_u]” would be a cute nickname. But, since it’s a departure from the given name, I feel like it might be a hard stick.
Other Domenicas in our family have gone by Mayme or Maime, Dom or Donnie.
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think [name_u]Sunny[/name_u] is a good nickname? What are others that aren’t [name_m]Dom[/name_m]/[name_m]Donnie[/name_m] (we have too many of those in the family already)?
[name_u]Sunny[/name_u] is a cute nickname - I think it could even be considered a sort of universal nn like Sweetie, [name_u]Scout[/name_u], [name_f]Petal[/name_f] etc In terms of it sticking, I think it would depend on what your daughter likes and how often you used it

[name_u]Sunny[/name_u] is adorable! I go by a nickname that isn’t a direct derivative of my first name and it’s never been a big deal for me. As a working adult, the only people that see my legal name is the HR department, so it rarely comes up. And as a kid I had to tell my teachers of the first day of class the nickname I preferred, but I wasn’t the only one doing so, so it was also never a problem.
I think [name_u]Sunny[/name_u] for [name_f]Dominica[/name_f] is amazing!
I agree with the previous posters, a nickname can really be anything you like. I tend to think of them as familiar names that you use around the house or with those your are particularly close to. [name_u]Sunny[/name_u] is perfect for this! All she needs to say is “my friends and family call me [name_u]Sunny[/name_u]” or “you can call me [name_u]Sunny[/name_u].” In the future she might have other nicknames from friends or colleagues but in your family she can always remain your [name_u]Sunny[/name_u].
I like the nicknames already mentioned. You could also use [name_f]Demi[/name_f], so pretty!
