Dorothy and diana

hello!

i was wondering what everyone thought about dorothy and diana as sisters. not expecting or planning to be soon. i personally really enjoy them together and feel they would be the most adorable little girls running around:) how do you feel about these names together? do you think they can work today (they are not too old)? please be honest and thank you so much berries!

I’m not a fan of [name_f]Diana[/name_f] (too closely linked to [name_f]Princess[/name_f] [name_f]Di[/name_f], and I don’t like the sound of the first syllable), but [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] is adorable - so soft and sweet, with potential nns [name_f]Dodie[/name_f] and [name_f]Dottie[/name_f]! The two together sound precious to me - I know a tiny [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] and she wears it beautifully! I would be surprised to come across a small [name_f]Diana[/name_f], but I like her more paired with [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] than I would paired with most other names, if that makes sense; they have a similar clunky vintage vibe and feel nicely cohesive.

I really like them together! I love how the shared initial ties them together, but they have distinct sounds so they wouldn’t get misheard for each other. And they have the same vintage vibe.

I think they absolutely work today, neither feels too outdated to me. Funnily enough I feel the opposite of the previous poster in that a little [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] would be more surprising to me than a little [name_f]Diana[/name_f] – [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] feels like a vintage name that’s ready for revival, whereas [name_f]Diana[/name_f] feels vintage too but has been consistently used (in the top 250 or so) since the 1930s in the US.

I like them individually and together! They do feel like slightly different styles, but the same first letter ties them together nicely. I don’t think either is ‘too old’. As @EagleEyes mentioned, [name_f]Diana[/name_f] has a long history of fairly consistent use in the US. [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] is also on its way back up in popularity as a vintage revival.

thank you mary! i do love dodie and dottie as well, so sweet! i also agree, i would be very surprised to meet a young diana, whereas dorothy is a bit more popular. thank you for your thoughts (they help a lot!)

I think [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] & [name_f]Diana[/name_f] would make a darling pair of sisters! They are both old-fashioned in the sweetest way and would work just fine today—perfectly in style, since those vintage names are coming back.

yes! thank you vel for your thoughts!

oh yay thank you! i love the old-fashioned vibe as well! glad to hear that it hasn’t gone too out of style:)

Yes, I definitely think these work together!

[name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] isn’t my personal style, but I think it sounds old-fashioned in a nice classic way, not outdated. Reminds me of The [name_m]Wizard[/name_m] of [name_m]Oz[/name_m], so it has a tinge of retro glamour.

I adore the name [name_f]Diana[/name_f], which has such a great mythological connection! (& also [name_u]Wonder[/name_u] Woman…) :star: It doesn’t feel dated to me at all, as it fits well with the current classically derived names ending in “a” (Olivia, [name_f]Sophia[/name_f], etc.).

[name_f]Gorgeous[/name_f]!

[name_f]Diana[/name_f] is such an underused, underrated classic that deserves more attention. She feels tranquil, majestic and elegant. I also like the meaning divine! I also like the idea nickname [name_f]Deedee[/name_f] which I think would be beyond adorable.

I do prefer [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] I actually love the ‘Dora’ names like [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f], [name_f]Theodora[/name_f], [name_f]Isadora[/name_f], [name_f]Adora[/name_f] and of course [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f]! I think [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] is beautiful such a charming, whimsical choice that feels wholesome and has pretty cottagecore imagery.

As a pairing I think [name_f]Diana[/name_f] & [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] compliment each other nicely, feel very classic and wholesome. Such a pretty pairing.

I think they definitely work, and they compliment each other really well. They feel quite early 1900s as a pair—which I love. I think the matchy initials are sweet, too.

Plus, these names are both sooo ripe for nickname potential; the girls could be [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] & [name_f]Diana[/name_f] full time, but they could also be [name_f]Dodie[/name_f] & [name_f]Di[/name_f], could be [name_f]Thea[/name_f] & [name_f]Annie[/name_f], could be [name_f]Ro[/name_f] & [name_f]Ann[/name_f], could be [name_f]Dolly[/name_f] & [name_u]Danny[/name_u] …anything that suits them!

I think they work - they have that stylish-old-lady vibe

aw thank you so much! i hadnt even thought about the wizard of oz connection! love it. thank you for your thoughts!

They go together well, and I they could totally work today. Dorothy is warmer, more down-to-earth, Diana is colder and more glamorous.

oh thank you tori! i have never heard of deedee as a nickname for diana (i’ve only heard it for melody) and i am absolutely obsessed! thank you for your sweet words about these names together.
