Does this combination clash too much stylistically? What are your thoughts on [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] [name_f]Katarina[/name_f]?
Yes it clashes.
Oh, I know it clashes, but is it too much of a clash? If you could look pass the different styles, does the combination work?
I don’t think it clashes too much, I think it’s workable.
I would love to hear more thoughts and opinions.
I think it’s absolutely lovely. It definitely “clashes” (clashes is a strong word and implies negativity, so I hate to say that), but I think that’s what makes it work! It’s unexpected but beautiful.
If I look past the stylistic inconsistency, yes, the name does flow well… actually, better than [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] C/[name_f]Katherine[/name_f]. It eliminates the repeating “th” sound, which may be unpleasing. And when I say [name_f]Katarina[/name_f], I stress the “ri…” (kata[name_f]REEna[/name_f]), so it helps to move the stress off of the first syllable.
I adore [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f], but I abhor [name_f]Katarina[/name_f]. [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] is much more my style… even [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] would be preferable to me! But that is just my personal taste.
This combo doesn’t work for me. I think first and middle names should enhance each other and these two seem to be competing. I would much prefer [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] or [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] Katerine.

I don’t see a clash. I think it is just two styles bonding together. It sounds rather spunky.
So I’m kind of biased with name as it is my grandmother’s and she is very dear to me. Anyways her middle name is [name_f]Carolyn[/name_f] “caro-lynn” so maybe that could be an option too? It’s KIND OF like [name_f]Katarina[/name_f]? Which I also am NOT a fan of.
Can I be the voice of dissent and say I like this combo a lot? The syllable flow is nice, especially with a 1 or 2 syllable last name. Besides, I think [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] C/[name_f]Katherine[/name_f] sounds pretty terrible with it’s heavy R-TH-TH-R sound.
[name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] [name_f]Katarina[/name_f] has a lot of nn options too: [name_f]Dora[/name_f], [name_f]Dot[/name_f], [name_f]Dorrie[/name_f], [name_f]Kat[/name_f], [name_f]Kitty[/name_f]…
I just realized why I like these names together-- I get the same image! A [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] I know is a very elegant lady who grew up on a farm and isn’t afraid to roll up her sleeves and get stuff done. [name_f]Katarina[/name_f] makes me think of [name_f]Ekaterina[/name_f]/[name_f]Kitty[/name_f] from [name_f]Anna[/name_f] Karenina who although she’s a princess, cares for her brother-in-law with tuberculosis. Two of my favorites! <3
[name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] is nms, but I don’t think it clashes with [name_f]Katarina[/name_f]. I really like [name_f]Katarina[/name_f].
I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] the combo [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] [name_f]Katarina[/name_f]!
Thank you everyone for your thoughts!
I’m not much of a fan of [name_f]Carolyn[/name_f], [name_f]Catherine[/name_f], Katerine or [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f]. I’m going to put this combo on hold for now because I much prefer [name_f]Katarina[/name_f] as a first name. I’m also big on nicknames and I don’t love any of the nicknames for [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f].
