Dorothy?

Looking for some feedback on our choice for our second daughter: [name]Dorothy[/name] ([name]Dolly[/name]). [name]General[/name] impressions of the name? Full name will be [name]Dorothy[/name] [name]Vera[/name] Churchyard. [name]Sister[/name] to [name]Florence[/name] [name]Marlena[/name] ([name]Floss[/name]/[name]Flossie[/name]). Thankyou!

I really like it. I had a great aunt called [name]Dorothy[/name] “[name]Dolly[/name]” and she has an older sister called [name]Florence[/name]!(as well as [name]Gertrude[/name] “[name]Gertie[/name]”, [name]Ruby[/name] and [name]Mabel[/name]) . It has a sweet vintage charm.

I was actually in the hairdressers the other day and a regular came in with her very cute baby. I asked my hairdresser and she said the baby was called [name]Dorothy[/name] “[name]Dotty[/name]”. There were lots of positive responses on the name. Most people found it “cute”.

This name (along with [name]Beatrice[/name] and [name]Penelope[/name]) tops my husband’s list. He loves the full name along with the nn’s [name]Dottie[/name] and [name]Dot[/name]. It’s my grammy’s middle name so we might use it somewhere (either mn for this baby or fn for next baby).

I think the [name]Wizard[/name] of [name]Oz[/name] connection is still pretty strong, but it’s not a bad thing at all. It’s most girls’ favorite movie from childhood!

I love it! I think it’s one of those names that for many is not quite old enough to be revived, but for the “beyond hipster” crowd is in the right spot.

[name]Dorothy[/name] is one of those old-fashioned vintage names that have grown on me and when I think of some sibling names to go with [name]Dorothy[/name], the first girls name that popped into my head was - you guessed it - [name]Florence[/name]! I think [name]Dorothy[/name] and [name]Florence[/name] are made for each other and they make the ideal sister duo. I love [name]Dorothy[/name] [name]Vera[/name] Churchyard too! Great choice!

My grandma is named [name]Dorothy[/name]. People call her [name]Dot[/name]. I think it is great that it is being revived.

I like [name]Dorothy[/name] but prefer [name]Dotty[/name] as the nn rather than [name]Dolly[/name]. Or [name]Doro[/name] which I find cute (not sure if I’m the only one though  ). I love [name]Dorothy[/name] with [name]Florence[/name]; to me they both strike the same vibe.

I love [name]Dorothy[/name] (and [name]Florence[/name]!). It would be at the top of our list except that it’s meaning caused us to take it off :frowning: I think it would make a great sister for our potential first pick [name]Louise[/name]/[name]Louisa[/name] (a family name). BUT becuase of this I am prone to LOVING it for other people  [name]Florence[/name] and [name]Dorothy[/name] is fabulous. It really is.

A ridiculous number of members here seem have such awesomely ‘quaint’ surnames. It’s unreal. I’ll keep an eye out for Dashwood, Chuzzlewitt and Dumbledore.

I love [name]Dorothy[/name]. I like [name]Doro[/name] for a nickname. I prefer [name]Dolly[/name] to the suggestion of [name]Dotty[/name]. There’s nothing wrong with being eccentric or slightly mad but…

I love [name]Dorothy[/name]! It’s gorgeous, and simply perfect with [name]Florence[/name]. I actually love the nickname [name]Dora[/name], but [name]Dolly[/name] almost as cute. I adore [name]Dotty[/name] too ([name]Ottie[/name] may even work) but then again, I’m a sucker for eccentric nicknames.

[name]Vera[/name] is beautiful too (and Churchyard is one of the most wonderful surnames I have heard for a long time  I’m jealous). I would go for it!

[name]Flossie[/name] and [name]Dolly[/name]? That’s amazing! I really like [name]Dorothy[/name] for you. She sounds like a well grounded, kind, quiet but confident sort of person. Such a fabulous sister to [name]Florence[/name]. [name]Love[/name] your choice. Best of luck! [name]Jess[/name]

I love [name]Dorothy[/name]! It sounds great with [name]Florence[/name]. [name]Dolly[/name] and [name]Flossie[/name] – so cute! Plus, [name]Dorothy[/name] [name]Vera[/name] is darling.
