Double barrelling the name Ivy due to popularity? Yay or nay?

I fell in love with the name [name_u]Ivy[/name_u] but then got a little sad when I saw it was top 20 in my country. Should I double barrel it so it stands out (at least on paper) or just embrace how popular it is?

[name_f]My[/name_f] ideas:

Ivy-Ren.
Ivy-Belle
Ivy-Elle
Ivy-Hart

It would save her being [name_u]Ivy[/name_u] [surname initial] if there are multiple in her class.

Personally, I’d go with a double barrel that feels distinctive too. Ivy-Belle is cute and works and Ivy-Ren is charming (Ivy-Wren would be my preference)

Ivy-Lane, Ivy-Raine, Ivy-June, Ivy-Nell or Ivy-Pearl would be cute

Ivy-Wren (I also prefer this spelling) and Ivy-Belle are my faves on your list.

You could definitely double barrel the name.
Another option would be to call her a name with the intials I and V and then call her [name_u]Ivy[/name_u] as her nickname.
Then you could choose a less popular name but still call her your favourite name most of the time.

Some options for example:

[name_u]Indra[/name_u] [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] nn I.V. (Ivy)
[name_f]Imogen[/name_f] [name_f]Vienna[/name_f]
[name_f]Irelia[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f]

As you can see whatever you like really…
Of your list I like Ivy-Ren so beautiful

All the best!

Ivy-Belle and Ivy-Wren are so lovely. I want to like Ivy-Hart (one of my favourites) but I’m not sure the flow works.

[name_f]My[/name_f] midwife with my second child had a daughter named Ivy-Wynn. I always thought it was so sweet. I could see Ivy-Gwen working too and I like Ivy-Belle.

Also, just wanted to add, I know several Lilys and one LilyAnn. It definitely helps her stand apart. I like your idea of the double barrel to create some distinction.

Personally I would embrace the popularity!

I’m not a massive fan of hyphenated first names I just find the second part of the name a little redundant/try hard. For example your wanting a second name for Ivy to create a more unique name which to me means that your probably not overly in love with the second name it’s just an after thought to create ‘uniqueness’. Ultimately you love Ivy if Ivy wasn’t incredibly popular you would just name your daughter Ivy. I also do not find adding another name onto a more popular name creates individuality as it’s such a popular craze that your child’s name just jumps onto that bandwagon. I know so many children with hyphenated first names and encounter children with hyphenated first names on a daily basis. I actually know an Ivy-Grac3, Ivy-Bell3, Ivy-R0se and an Ivy-B0w (like an actual bow rather than Beau) even though each of these Ivy’s have their own individual second name they all feel very much the same name in my opinion they all smoosh together and feel very trendy. If it was me I would embrace Ivy yes she’s popular but she’s the name you love (along with loads of other parents hence why she’s so popular) rather than trying to find a name to hyphenate Ivy with to aim for ‘uniqueness’.

Sorry if this is harsh just in a sea of hyphenated first names this my least favourite name craze so I’m incredibly bias with my thoughts

I wouldn’t double barrel. Some of my family members have double barrel names and for some reason are very sensitive as adults about making sure you say the full name. So it’s very likely if you smoosh [name_u]Ivy[/name_u], she will never be called [name_u]Ivy[/name_u], it’ll be for eg, Ivy-Belle or nicknames like “I-B” or “Ibby” but rarely just [name_u]Ivy[/name_u]. I would choose unadulterated [name_u]Ivy[/name_u] or a different name altogether. I do like some smooshes - for eg [name_f]Belphoebe[/name_f] but this is because it feels like a new name not trying to be unique [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]. If you do go for one, and I can see the appeal, I wouldn’t pick Ivy-Elle as they run a little too much into each other (the “vee-elle” doesn’t sound short pretty to me). Good luck!

This is the only way I would use Ivy!! love your choices.

I would use a middle name that could be used as a double if desired. [name_u]Ivy[/name_u] [name_f]Belle[/name_f], or [name_u]Ivy[/name_u] [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f], [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f], etc. could go by either just [name_u]Ivy[/name_u] or [name_u]Ivy[/name_u] [name_f]Belle[/name_f].

[name_u]Ivy[/name_u] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] would be my favorite!

I would just do whatever you like best. Ivy-Belle is pretty cute :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

You could also do a “double-barrel” without the hyphen, that way she isn’t bound to going by both names if she doesn’t want to. I think [name_u]Ivy[/name_u] [name_f]Belle[/name_f] works particularly well, and you could add another middle if you wanted.

These are nice. [name_f]Do[/name_f] what you feel comfortable with, double barrelled first names aren’t a problem. You could always smoosh some of the names together too. For example, Ivy-Elle could be Ivielle.

I love double barreled names, but if Ivy’s the name you love, just use [name_u]Ivy[/name_u]!
